Umm...where did the old FF XII thread go? It just disappeared.
The same place all the others from the past MONTH went.
Away. Again.

... if we don't protest in some way, we REALLY need to do something, because this is completely unacceptable.
Yeah, I realized that after I posted this. I guess this'll just have to be the new meeting place for those of us working our way through XII.
I liked the FFXII thread. :(
Well of course you did! What else do you have to do? I mean you just got home from the grocery store with your bag full of frozen loneliness and you need something to talk about with SOME sort of sentient life.
It was a very good thread. :(
I need to really start playing Final fantasy games, I have yet to play/finish any of them.
But you sure have watched a lot of them, and you do have like 2 or 3 copies of Advent Children, one of them a translated bootleg.
Indeed
Your avatar still looks more like a mouse than a cat!
I haven't finished any either, unless Final Fantasy Adventure counts... but the only other "Final Fantasy" games I own are Tactics, Tactics Advance, and Crystal Chronicles, so... (and no, I didn't finish any of those yet, though I got close to the end of FFTA and well into FFCC)

As I said last time. FFXII looks like a PC RPG on consoles, which is a very good thing, and "people" who said that they liked the FFXII system but then said that they don't play PC RPGs need to re-examine their gaming priorities. :)
I hate leaving games unfinished. That being said, I have several unfinished games in my collection :D.

However, I have beaten every Final Fantasy I've sunk my teeth into (4,7,10,10-2,TA), so I'll probably see this one through to the end as well. Right now my characters are at an average of level 20. Ashe and Vaan seem to get left behind in my levels. Balthier and Fran have excellent ranged weapons, so they can do a lot of damage with little risk. Basch has the awesome Blood Sword, and great defense and evasion, so he's tough to bring down. Penelo has a strong staff and is, so far, my only summoner, so every time I summon, she gets a big experience boost from all the enemies it kills. Vaan and Ashe just don't have anything distinctive about their style yet, and thus, they usually die first so one of the other four can come in and wreak some havoc :D.

Right now I'm stuck on a boss. Giant dragon that is hard as rock to hit and causes an all-party attack similar to a Malboro Bad Breath in any installment: a whole stack of status effects. Some bosses have a "trick" to them, I've noted. This one must be no different.

Progress Report:
I still haven't left Rabanastre(sp?)!

I'm supposed to get on a ship next, but before I leave, is it worth exploring more of the Dalmasca Estersands or Westersands, or the plains?
Best get cracking. Ivalice is a big place.

As for what to do now, I'd certainly take another run or two through the Estersand. The foes are weaker but still give you those valuable License Points! Take on a few hunts, too.
Well, I beat that dragon, barely, I might add. Really, everyone was dead, all I have left was an HP Critical Vaan, and he hit for the kill just as the dragon was gearing up for a fireball, which would have killed Vaan easily. I will say this about XII, I never got the kind of thrill I get from bosses in this game playing FFX. I also never got so much aggrivation at some (well, that Mt. Gagazet Seymour Battle almost made me pull my hair out before I got the hang of it).

That stupid status effect attack is murder, and Esuna is an expensive spell, considering how rare Ethers seem to be.

Anyway, I'm still working my way through. Where are you guys? You made it to Bhujerba yet, Paco?
I haven't played it since last weekend so I've still just met Bal and Fran. I hope I get a chance to play this weekend.
Okay, Bal is definitely the coolest character ever, and Vaan has become the whiny main character we're used to. He isn't as bad as the last few main characters, though. I just got through the mines on Bhujerba, and I can't believe I actually ran from a battle, but those bounty hunters seem to be almost impossible at this point. When they killed Bal in 2 hits I decided to book it out of there. Fran and Basch were the only two to survive the sprint out of there. Did anyone actually try to stay and fight those guys? I thought my party was pretty pumped up thanks to a lot of exploring, but they would have decimated me.
Quote:and I can't believe I actually ran from a battle, but those bounty hunters seem to be almost impossible at this point.

I'm pretty sure that you're supposed to run away from those guys.
That's what I figured given that Bal pretty much says to run before the battle starts, but I was just curious to see if anyone tried to take them on.
I tried, very briefly :). Ultimately though, you're meant to run.

I agree that Balthier is the best character in the game thus far, and I'm also not a big fan of Vaan, but hey, I guess one can cancel out the other.

I'm there. I'm currently in the Dreadnought Leviathan leveling up. Judge Ghis kicked my ass hard so I've spent about two hours acquiring more licenses and getting stronger weapons so I can defeat him without breaking a sweat. From the impressions I've read thus far, and from my own experience, is that the bosses don't play around. However, like you, I haven't met a boss that pisses me off the way Seymour did in FFX.

Dmiller, I tried taking on the bounty hunters on as well and got my ass handed to me pretty quickly.
Ah, the Leviathan. Be prepared for a brutal boss fight when you go to leave.

I've been somewhat lagging on the story lately, preferring instead to hunt marks and just explore in general. To say I'm moving through the story at a leasurely pace is an understantement, although that's not to say I haven't been playing :D. This game is addictive.

...

But FFX still wins.
Quote:Ah, the Leviathan. Be prepared for a brutal boss fight when you go to leave.

He wasn't all THAT hard. Once I got rid of his flunkies, the fight was over.
There seems to be a lot more freedom to explore in FFXII, which is why I prefer it to FFX to this point. FFX kind of pushed you along a path and there weren't many opportunities to take time off from the story and explore every nook and cranny. I've played the game for about 12 hours and I've barely made a dent in the game because of all the exploring I did. Maybe I'm remembering FFX wrong, but I don't remember being able to explore all that much.
That's the main complaint most of us have about FFX when compaired to the other games in the series. Too linear. Don't get me wrong, in the end they all were more linear than not, but at least they didn't FEEL like they were shoving you down the single thin road through the whole game.

EM's the big FFX fan around here. It wasn't a bad game, but I still prefer others to it. EM needs to play FF6 when it's finally released on GBA.
Come on, guys. I know we can't recreate the old FF XII thread, but I know we're still working our way through it. How the progress?

I keep getting hung-up on boss fight after boss fight. I need to hunt more and get that License Board filled up...
I'm splitting my time between Final Fantasies III and V.

Having slots for both on my DS makes me weep with joy.
My Final Fantasy play is on hold now that I have Zelda. It will probably be until after Christmas that I start it up again.
Final Fantasy has been put on hold in favor of Twilight Princess.
:shake:
Zelda-hater!!
FF-hater!!!
Looks like you backed the wrong pony, Riboflavin!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Time to resurrect it again...might be spoilers

So I just finished up in Giruvegan. Not one of my favorite places. I didn't have any trouble, it's just a very long dungeon.

Otherwise, I think I've explored quite a bit of Ivalice. There are some places I've only shortly ventured in to due to difficulty, but I intend to go back before I beat it. Zertinian Caverns should be pretty easy by now since I'm at level 55 with Vaan, Balthier, and Fran. Does anyone know if it's worth going in there? The back entrance to the Hennes Mines, where you come from Feywood. Jesus H Christ, I walked in and the bats were doing 900+ damage to me! I can't wait to level up some more and show them what's up. The Cerobi (sp?) Steppe looked beautiful, but there were some fatal traps in a quite a few places and some powerful enemies. I want to make my way through it though. Finally, I want to venture through the Necrohol of Nabuduis and the Nebrius Deadlands, but I'm not powerful enough yet to just coast through. Did anyone else find the Wyrm's Nest; that's one big dino!

The rare monster hunts are pretty fun. I'm curious what items are going to show up once I turn in some more trophies.

I'm going to go on some hunts soon, I've fallen way behind.
more spoilers ahead!

forget Giruvegan, the Pharos at Ridorodas (sp?) is the longest dungeon in a video game...ever. 4 hours is just ridiculous...especially in one sitting.

I ended up going in to the Nabrius Deadlands just a little ways; it wasn't too terribly tough but I ended up leaving anyway. I suppose I didn't want to run in to a nasty boss the further I ventured from the save crystal. I might try it again at higher levels. The Necrohol is out of the question for now since I was getting owned pretty quickly, but I will get through it eventually.
I beat it! I was mesmerized by how amazing the last boss looked- was pretty cool. I loved the ending. :)

So that took me 63 hours...aside from Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, that's the most time I've spent with a game. Usually I put RPGs away after I beat them but I want to get some of the extras in 12, but I'm gonna let my friend borrow it and then I'll come back to it when he's done (it takes him 3-4 months to play RPGs usually). I get to borrow Kingdom Hearts 2 from him.:D
Paco Wrote:I get to borrow Kingdom Hearts 2 from him.:D

A worthy trade!

Kudos to beating XII. The end was great, and the final boss was mesmerizing.

I'm still playing and, as of last check, was on 104 hours :D.
104 hours! I don't know if I'll put that much time in to it. I mostly just want to satisfy my curiousities, such as exploring Nabrius Deadlands entirely, the Necrohol, all of Hennes Mines, etc.

Are you working with a player's guide now?
No, but now that I have beaten I've taken the occasional visit to GameFAQs. I challenged Gilgamesh, but he's too tough for me right now. I got back into the Barheim Passage and reaped the spoils within, and next I'm going to ...ummm...well I guess I'll just jump in and see what finds me :D. Half the fun of FF is just exploring and finding all the fun crap you can do!

Oh, I do want to keep looking in Nabudis too. I made it there, but left soon after (not because the fiends were too hard, but I was tired and didn't feel like exploring a new area :D). I've heard one of the best shops in Ivalice is run by a Baknamy somewhere within Nabudis.
