Of the Core. From $515 to $415. ... only in Japan.

So let's recap:

Wii: US $249, Japan $212 (Japanese prices include taxes, American ones don't)

X360: US $299/$399 (??? for the HD-DVD player), Japan $243 (price drop from $252 just announced)/$333 (coming soon: premium bundle with Blue Dragon). (HD-DVD player $170)

PS3: US $499/$599, Japan $427/$??? (retailers set the price for the Premium; $527 now? (10000 Yen more than core))

However, all PS3 Cores now have HDMI output...

If you want to make those US prices look good though, just include the European prices too... :)
Could you round up a dollar on those x99 ones? After tax it's over that point anyway and this cuts out that stupid "one cent deception" thing marketters use.
I was wondering what that audible pop was.

Now let's see if they do the smart thing and launch later with a few million systems for Japan and the states.
A huge price drop for Japan but not for any other regions?
Yup! Aren't Sony nice...

I thought about that, but I was being accurate, and it's not hard to round up the 1 cent in your head...

They, like MS with the 360 launch, would rather be able to say that it's out and not have anywhere near enough consoles available than launch later with plenty of supply... oh, and the 'Cores now have HDMI' thing supposedly might have caused even more reductions in what's available, though Cores are only 20% of the initial shipment, so it's not that bad.
Quote:Willing to shell out $85 for a PLAYSTATION 3 game?

IGN reports that Japanese PS3 game prices will likely be between 8,800-9,800 yen range ($75-85 USD). Japanese site Impress Watch has also reported that the reason behind the projected prices, which are high compared to the cost of the average PS2 game in Japan (6,800 yen), is due to slower-than-expected third party development for the upcoming platform.

In addition, the article projects that Sony will try to de-emphasize the 60 GB model of its newest console and shift focus onto the 20 GB SKU, which may explain a recently-announced price decrease for that model in Japan.

So far, this has no impact on the American pricing for the system or software, at least not at the present time. Exact shipping numbers for either region have yet to be released.

They're making up for it with microtransaction games (GT HD...) and $75-$85 games. :) (though they won't be that much in the US -- last-gen games cost more there than here, so I'd expect that the X360's $60 is more realistic for the US prices...)
Ack, microtransaction games... In the long run, those will end up costing like a lot mores than normal games... What ever happened to those olden days?
Games in Japan are already way more than we pay though, so this might not translate to higher prices [relative to the 360] here in America.

5800 yen (or is it 6800?) is normal I think, but evidently 'big titles' get priced higher, up to 7800-8800 yen... but here the PS3 is looking at 8800-9800 as the price for normal games... so yeah, this doesn't mean that US PS3 prices will be $85. It just means that you can be sure that they won't be $50, and some might even go above $60... though in the US, that generally means 'special editions', not just "we're charging more for the normal version of this high-profile game".

If you have to buy every car and track separately in a Gran Turismo game... so expensive... :weird:
Ha, I glanced at the article and failed to notice that it's Japan only. Oops.

80 bucks for a PS3 game will not fly here, so I hope that translates to a max of 60 in the US. Though that's still to expensive.
Yeah, $80 never will fly!

I paid $80 for SMRPG and over $100 for Chrono Trigger, and I forget what for FFVI.
Exactly. People bitched then, people will bitch now. The difference is that we're long past the days of 80 dollar carts that were marked up simply because Square charged that much in Japan or because Toysrus thinks Mortal Kombat will be so popular they can charge whatever they want. We're paying 50 now, 25 dollar DS games, 19.99 player's choice and the highest tier next gen games for 60 where the excuse for the mark up is eitrher 'oh it's HD' or 'covering higher production cost' which is all BS. 80 bucks for a game better come with something, whether it's swag or bonus material, but even then it wont convince me of a purchase. Especially with it looking no better than 360 and offering nothing else above and beyond a PS2 with better graphics.

The bottom line is that it costs more money to make films. Titanic had a production cost of over 100 million dollars, you can buy it on DVD for 15. Zelda: TP has a production cost of around 20 million, but to own it you must pay 50. Bullshit flag.
Market forces? :D

At any rate, yeah, the thing that gets me is a game that is either exactly the same or superior on PC goes for less than the 360 version.

My baloney detector is going nuts.
People are already grumbling over a $600 console, just imagine how big the outcry would be over $80 games.
$80 might be too much, but $79.99 sounds just fine... :)
haha

its also funny to think if 79.99 is the standard price. Does that mean Kojima's games will be 100? Or Final Fantasy X 15: Cid's Racing Adventure Chronicles of the Legend of the Crystal Chrono Bearers Wings Cup will be even more?
