What is this, the 10th time he's re-re-re-re-re-re-released Star Wars? First he has the regular VHS, then the THX-VHS, then the Special Edition THX-VHS, then the DVD, then the Special Edition THX-DVD-3.1, and now he's doing it again. Isn't he rich enough yet?

I own one copy of each movie, and thus shall it stay.

*Declares formal state of war on George Lucas*
He didn't break into your house, insert the movies, and run off with your cash. Why are you so upset? Besides, the fans wanted this. They were all begging for the original theatrical versions and that's basically the selling point of this. You don't want it? You don't have to buy it.
Hmm...I don't know why people would be excited about this! Why, it's only the FIRST TIME EVER THAT THE ORIGINAL CUTS OF THE MOVIE WILL BE RELEASED ON DVD.
Eh... Just a new format really. I suppose for the diehard collector this is a big deal though. Personally, I'm fine without them. Darunia seems to be of that mind as well. The problem seems to be that he is downright offended that this would have been made.
I'm definitely getting them.
No, wait!

I mean, wait until the high def versions come out.
That's right, because he's a manipulative capitalist fuckbag overlord who rakes in billions simply for giving the nod to fifteen corporate aides-de-camp who go out and enforce his willing; that being to release a new Star Wars format every other year.

It's like buying a new Barbie doll every time a new one comes out, but all thats ever different is 50 cents wort of miniature clothing.

Duh, but me want new and different format so me go done that.
If I was George Lucas I'd do the same thing. And frankly, he'd be insane not to.

It only works because so many idiots actually do buy the movies over and over.

Star Wars has always been a franchise of grossly-overstated creative value anyway, and is more a flashy toy commercial than anything, so why wouldn't he wring every possible penny from it? As the saying goes, "Don't hate the player, hate the game."
He's doing it because of all the people convinced that everything Star Wars put into film since 1983 or so (since the release of RotJ) is awful and terrible and should be ignored finally got to him enough to convince him to sacrifice his artistic vision for more $$$ since people want these versions so badly... it's kind of too bad, because most of the edits really were for the best (not a few of them, but even those got mostly improved in the DVD releases... I still wish that the Ewok song at the end had been left in though. Oh well...), but what can you do...
Release the entire sextilogy on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray!!!!

You know it's inevitable.
It'll happen eventually.
Eh, some people want the originals. There's good historic reason to have them around, but that's not the point.

Why would you, Darunia, actually take issue with this? Why are you actually mad? As I said before, you have a choice. This doesn't affect you. It only affects people who buy this stuff over and over again. Don't buy it and you should be fine.
George Lucas is an evil genius!
Only pure evil could make someone buy a thousand copy's of the same move and like it.
Quote:Eh, some people want the originals. There's good historic reason to have them around, but that's not the point.

It's not that having them around is inherently bad, but that so many people think that the newer versions (and films) are all awful, which just isn't true... there are certainly some issues with them, but nothing that makes any of them bad or stuff that doesn't live up to the Star Wars legacy.
He's still a kaka head.
Why?

Again, what did he actually do wrong here? He's released yet more versions, saturating the market further, but unless you actually buy them then it doesn't matter, and if you DO buy them you've essentially said you want them so he still didn't do anything wrong. Further, you don't need these things to do anything, your versions aren't suddenly deteriorating due to the existance of these new ones. You also don't need them for day to day use or to be accepted in society (like food or even an operating system) so it still doesn't affect you.

What has he done wrong?
He has offended Darunia's fragile sensibilities. Obviously.
Maybe it's just that these repeated releases of all those towering DVD cases are upsetting to one of his upstanding stature in the community.
George Lucas keeps re-releasing Star Wars because people keep buying it. If that's the kind of thing that makes you angry, then you're probably in the wrong country...
Nothing makes the idea of "party lines" more absurd than talking with Darunia. His views cross into the extremes of both sides so often and so blatantly that the only conclusion is that those two parties aren't the only possible viewpoints.
This is exactly what people wanted, the original trilogy without the added bullshit in crystal clear DVD format. And it's only taken 15 years to happen.

I dont think the next step is going to be HD-DVD, I think it's going to be 3-D'd and re-released in theaters, or just IMAX 3-D theaters. Peter Jackson wants to do the same thing with LotR.
And THEN HD-DVD?
IN THE YEAR 2178:

And new to Super Plasma Disc this season, the re-release of Star Wars: the original trilogy! In this 109th re-release of everyone's cherished classic, George Lucas V has authorized the restoration of three seconds' footage previously lost to the cutting room floor!

"Yea, we were like going through the trash, and we saw a few frames of old film, and we like played it, (and stuff), and turns out that its rejected footage we meant to throw away, but you can sort of make out this blurry figure walking by really quick, and we think that it's either Han or Chewbacca, but we're not sure, so we decided to slap it into the middle Episode II and VI, and then we repackaged it in even shinier, glossier cardboard! We're rushing it to the shelves for Christmas!"

And there you have it~!

This has always happened and it will continue to happen. This is nothing new.
True, but this is Darunia we're talking about... :)
Darunia, if you've had it with Mr. Lucas, then why don't you just get your Star Wars "novels" published?

What's stopping you?? 33 cents of turkey?

Ever heard of Lulu.com?
Uh-oh!
