I've never made a serious attempt to play MP in Hard Mode, and now I will, while keeping a game diary as I did with my conquest of Master Quest some months back.

[size=2]Let me first start out by admitting that I'm a big fan of sequence breaking, and I tend to do it as a matter of course.

Haven't had much trouble so far, though I got careless trying to escape from the Space Pirate Frigate and was down to only 3 energy when I got to the elevator in which Samus loses all of her upgrades. Made it out, though. You get re-energized by that, which makes no logical sense, but whatever.

Once on the Tallon Overworld, I got the Space Jump Boots right away. With them, I was able to get two upgrades early on in the Chozo Ruins plaza. One is the Missile expansion on the half-pipe, which is just a matter of simply space-jumping. The second is the energy tank on the high ledge. It's also a matter of space-jumping, and isn't very hard to do. With the Missiles already in tow, I can skip the Hive Mecha, but I opted to take it out anyway to add to my scans and to claim the expansion.

Having the Space Jump Boots actually enables you to bypass fighting the Giant Beetle boss. You can jump over to get the Morph Ball and jump right back out without ever even seeing it. With my Morph Ball and missles, I went back to the Overworld to claim two more missle expansions.

From here, I basically followed the game's path for awhile. I made my way through the Ruins and got the Bombs, Charge Beam, and every available expansion. Defeated Flaaghra easily. Made my way to Magmoor.

I went through Magmoor the same as the Ruins, the linear way, and to Phendrana, whereupon I immediately made for the Boost Ball upgrade and then the Sheegoth boss. Sheegoth's a little tougher in Hard Mode because you have to make use of the crates in the corners for extra missiles. But, I won, and got the Wave Beam. Now it was time to deviate completely from the game's path.

I made my way back through Magmoor and to the area before the Furnace in the Ruins. There are two paths through the Furnace via Morph Ball. One takes you on the lower path and to the Energy Tank. The other requires the Spider Ball.

However, there's a glitch with this particular Spider Track that allows you to clip it and jump up its length, after which you can simply roll into the pipe. Eventually this path takes you to a Wave beam door. This leads to the room with the Chozo statue and the Beam Switches. There's also a Chozo ghost here, which isn't too hard.

Normally, the Spider ball is required to activate the Beam Switches, but you can also do it with a little creative jumping (there is a small ledge jutting out that you can reach with Space Jump and from there to the activation point). Having done that, I used the Wave Beam switch, which propels me into the upper room. This let me reach the Ice Beam. I backtracked to the Statue room (which is now populated by three Ghosts, a decent challenge). Defeating them, I used the Ice Switch to get an Energy Tank, and here I stopped for the night.

Woo! I remember doing my sequence breaker and it was awesome getting space jump at the start but I never got the Plasma beam without the spiderball - I didnt know it was possible :D

The first time I went through hard mode in prime 1 I noticed that all my rythm was off because everything takes a little more to kill, once i got in to that rythm when i played prime 1 for a low % run (on normal) it was all off again :D

I had to play on normal, OP with 4 energy tanks is hard enough as he is, thx

The biggest challenge in hard mode, a side from the bosses and certain quick areas, is the phazon mine portion. If you can, bring the plasma beam. It will dispatch pirates quickly... but troopers and elites wont give a shit about your plasmabeam :D oh! oh, if you dont have the x-ray visor by the time you face the invisible sentry bot (I think you told me there's a way to get it by getting the plasmabeam and then get the powerbomb from phendrana, then use that to get the x-rayvisor) use the secondary beamcombo mode of the wavebeam on him, he'll suck you completely dry of missles but if he survives he'll be close to death. What makes him so difficult is the amount of energy you usually have by the time you face him.
DAY 2

[size=2]I spent most of today sequence-breaking the Plasma Beam, doing so without the Spider Ball or Grapple Beam. It is possible, but it is very difficult and very frustrating, especially because if you screw it up, you have to reset the game or wait until at least acquiring the Grapple Beam, as you can't use the trick to reach the first spin platform, it will be too far to reach once raised.

Not only that, but you have to do a little lava diving to cross that one room with the spider track. It is possible, of course, but on Hard mode, the lava fucks you rough. You have to go into the lava pit and bomb-jump out. Considering how fast the lava kills you, you don't get but three chances to do this with 5 energy tanks, and even when successful, you're left with little life. I passed this three times only to fail at the jumps for the Plasma beam, so the last time, I kept going to the area with the Flying Pirates and saved (and grabbed the Tank). Backtracking to the Geothermal Core, some harrowing jumping (and a very nasty ghetto jump) later, I had my Plasma Beam and I went to Phendrana, which I hadn't visited since getting the Wave Beam.

With the Plasma Beam, I was able to get the PowerBomb upgrade that's in one of the baby Sheegoth dens (which opens up TONS of stuff, you can basically go right to the end of the Phazon Mines if you have the balls to suffer Phazon burn) I began my assault on the Research Labs, and let me tell you; having the Ice Beam makes the labs five times easier. Ice+Missle= Pirates not breathing. Having the Plasma Beam makes it ten times easier. Charged Plasma = Also Pirates not breathing. Even on Hard, they're cake. I got the Super Missile, and later the Thermal Visor. Then, since I had the Ice Beam, I didn't have to backtrack through the darkened Labs. Instead, I went to the Frozen Pike, through the Hunter Cave and to the Gravity Suit, which is where I left off.

All this, and Thardus is still waiting for me. There's a lot you can do in this game without the Spider Ball. Tomorrow I tackle Thardus and with the Spider Ball, I can go get my X-ray visor.

Ah sequence breaking. Sounds interesting. I recall a long time ago when I first got the game, before giving up and just continuing, I kept trying to jump on that ledge behind me and failing (from the back of the ship). How exactly do you get the space jump at the very start of the game?

Current Location: Phazon Mines

[size=2]Immediately made for Thardus right away. Very easy, even on Hard Mode. If you have the Plasma Beam, you never even have to use missiles on him (a charged Plasma shot does the same damage as a regular missile). Got the spider ball, then traveled back to Tallon Overworld (stopping to acquire the Ice Spreader), where I made my way to the Life Grove. Since I already had the Power Bomb, I was able to obtain the X-Ray visor (and the Ice Spreader). From there, I ventured forth into the Phazon mines, and this is where having the Plasma beam no longer means shit :D I got the grapple beam without having detoured for the Power Bombs in the Dynamo. That's where I called it a day. There really isn't much sequence breaking left to do.

cheater :D
What, for skipping the Invisible Drone? :D I'll be going back that way. I kinda have to.
It's not cheating, it's called a loophole. It's no different than a dog playing basketball, or a monkey playing baseball, or a penguin playing soccer, or whatever other innane idea for a movie Disney has in mind for their next "Disney Channel Movie of the Week".
Well i understand that some of the sequence breaks are made by the developers (heat signatures from invisible platforms, rain on invisible platforms, etc), but they removed alot of them with the newer version releases.

Surviving phazon mines on hard mode is the whole point to playing it on hard mode! :D

The Invisible Drone is hard, but far worse is the fact that it's about an hour from the last save point, so die and you do a LOT over... and that lot is quite difficult.

Yeah, Phazon Mines is pretty hard, even on normal mode, but hard takes it to a different level. Still, I managed, and then it was time for Ridley and Prime.

You understand they removed a number of the really cool visual cues to things like floating platforms? Where did you hear that and where is your documentation to back up your claim? :D Sorry, but seriously it would be horrible to learn that Retro took out what only added to the mood of the game. I often used the rain drops as my way of getting to a few places, and there's not a bit of cheating involved. I just wasn't ready to go after the x-ray visor yet :D. If they made a new version of it and at least fixed the odd lockup bug that's all I wanted. Why would they actually take the time to do that? Seriously, could ya provide a link on this or something? I'd hate to think they fixed a crippling bug but removed some neat features of the game.
