Quote:14-Mar-06 12:28 ET In Play Sony to delay the release of its PlayStation 3 next-generation video game console - DJ (SNE) 47.48 +0.71: Dow Jones reporting that Sony Computer Entertainment will delay the release of its PlayStation 3 next-generation video game console until early November because the copy protection technology for the Blu-ray Disc has not been finalized, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported in its Wednesday morning edition.

Wow, if Nintendo goes on sale this summer/early fall like I expect they will then Sony's PS3 has the Revolution and 360 to deal with the holiday season. Can't count out the DS or PSP as it seems handhelds are growing in popularity.

Nintendo will have their innovative new games and a relatively low price point, Microsoft will have the start of their second generation games and a healthy lineup of titles to choose from, and possibly a price drop.

Interesting.
Perhaps, but MS does have to remember that the DC and the Saturn both launched early themselves, and it didn't do much good. They'll have to do something to make people want the thing.

As it is, the shortage of the thing nationwide is caused by Microsoft's own errors in contruction, not a massive need for the thing. Sure they did well during Christmas, but so did the N64 during the first Christmas after it was launched (it too was a "must have").

Nintendo once stated they had every intention of beating Sony to launch, but the question is if they can actually realize that intention.

The HUGE difference is that Sega (financially ruined) was behind the Saturn and DC, and Microsoft (makes more money in year than Nintendo + Sony + Sega) is behind the 360.

Other signficant differences:

dvd equipped PS2 vs. the non dvd Dreamcast. DVD's had been around since 1997 and already established as the new media format. DVD was a significant upgrade with scene selection, interactivity, and no rewind. Blu-Ray isn't even out yet, there aren't going to be that many movies available at first, to see the difference you need a HDTV which the majority of people don't...

Sega's shaky 3rd party support vs. Microsoft's growing roster of 3rd party developers and games.

Consumer confidence. How many systems did Sega release and abandon? Sega CD, Sega 32X, Sega Saturn, Sega Nomad, Sega Game Gear...developers and consumers had every reason to cautiously buy into a Sega product, or not consider it at all given their past. If you look around for news reports, Microsoft has been on a wave of momentum since the Xbox launched. I assume it's still going as it shifted from the Xbox to the [sold out] 360.
I hate the delete = back button "shortcut"!

How do I disable keyboard shortcuts? I demand an answer!
I take it you had a big post. Can you sum it up?
Least surprising news of the year? Seriously, there's a new "PS3 delayed!" rumor every other day now... I'm waiting for the official Sony announcement (this isn't it), but I fully expect it to come along before too long. There's no way the PS3 is ready.
Paco/ you do realize that MS's gaming division cant exactly dip in to the corporate funds when ever it wants to, yes? it's essentially a party attached to a mother corporation, they dont share finances down to the dollars and sense, nudge nudge.

of course PS3 will be delayed, Kutagari wants a 120 frames per second 8 trillion polys per second DEUCE EX machine that is made out of the hymens of angels. It will not be released until they reach a happy medium between the above and a XBox 360.

And on dual 1080p monitors too... :)

but understand they are available funds. Bill Gates has said he'll do whatever's necessary to get a strong hold on the video game market. He already confirmed there will a third iteration of the Xbox.
They'd better make more than -$4 billion dollars on the Xbox360 then.
