Quote:Do such games even exist anymore?

So, so many PSX and N64 games make you do this! And yes, a LOT of GC games do it too. You just might not notice because one 1019 can fit enough for a pretty big game collection...

Quote:The only reason that was an issue back was because memory cards were so small. Xbox360 memory cards are 64MB, more than enough to hold all your saved games.

Or like two KotOR saves (if they actually allowed you to transfer them, that is)? :)

Quote:Why would you ignore them? They're easy to use; much more so than the Z-button on the GC controller [which wasn't nearly as bad as some people made it out to be].

Because, like one of the two pairs of shoulder buttons on the PSX pad and the Z button, having to have fingers on two sets of shoulder buttons/triggers is not comfortable or easy to use, perhaps? "Get used to it"... I've tried, and I'm better with it than I used to be, but I still don't like it much at all...

The memory card for the original Xbox was only 8MB.

Quote:having to have fingers on two sets of shoulder buttons/triggers is not comfortable or easy to use, perhaps?

I use my pointer-fingers for the shoulder buttons and the triggers. No problems here.
It's not even that though GR. The KOTOR saves are flagged as unmovable. Even if you have the space on one of those unofficial cards, you can't copy it. This applies to ALL of Bioware's games. Jade Empire's saves are more than small enough to fit on a standard card, but they can't be moved either. Further, even on files that I have that ARE too big to be moved, the "move" command is still there.

Right. Zero of them then. :)

For X360, the equivilant is if you want any Live Arcade games...

... two fingers for four shoulder/trigger buttons?
Quote:... two fingers for four shoulder/trigger buttons?

Yes.

Quote:The KOTOR saves are flagged as unmovable.

*shrugs* I never had an Xbox memory card and I don't plan on getting one for the Xbox360.
Quote:Yes.

How, exactly, can you try that and seriously say "this is just as good as having six face buttons and just two triggers, so my fingers can actually be on the buttons all the time"...

You have a finger on all six buttons at once?
Well your fingers can be on all the buttons. The 360 controller is actually pretty comfortable placing 4 fingers on all shoulder buttons. Works fine for me anyway. Besides, it can work better to have a finger dedicated to each button than for your thumb to have solitary control over 6 buttons and a control stick. Some games need 4 shoulder buttons due to the thumbs being too busy controlling analog sticks to take the time to press other buttons.

I thought of this, but it is easier to hit face buttons than shoulder buttons, so that's not really an issue... and it's easy to move the thumb around the button pad. Switching between a trigger and a shoulder button? Not quite as much. Doable, but not as easily...

Yes, and like GC games that make you use the Z button often, those are the ones I would dislike. :)
The Z button is VERY hard to reach. There's that little plastic ridge of the R button to get over and it's a little high up there.

The top L and R buttons on the 360 controller are much easier to reach. My problem with the Z button isn't that it's an extra button, or even an extra shoulder button, it's the placement in that out of the way area. Lower down and easier to rest a finger on, then I'd love it.
Lower down and easier to put your finger on and you have the Playstation controller layout, which I dislike so much... (not just for that of course, but it doesn't help any)
I can't believe that Psychonauts finally got added to the Xbox360 BC list. Now I can play it again!! WOOOO!!!
Did you sell your old XBox or something?

Anyway, yeah it's there. Been there for a few weeks.
Quote:Did you sell your old XBox or something?

Yes, that was before I found out that the Xbox360's BC was a big pile of hooey.
Ouch. That's unfortunate. For future reference, keep up to date with everything they say about their backwards compatiblenessities.

At least it does the job well with Psychonauts (that's the system I played it on right after I got it, because I was too lazy to plug in my original XBox). Check their list and they now list certain "issues" that some games have. I know of at least one problem they don't list though. Various FMVs in various games stutter. Hopefully that'll eventually be fixed along with those other glitches. I've mentioned enough of the other issues in the past though. Anyway, at least it's getting better. Still no Panzer Dragoon Orta though. Also, even if they do put that in, I've noticed that in some games that have games INSIDE them, those "inner games" aren't even selectable. I guess it's the whole "emulator within an emulator" thing that is causing the issues. Hopefully that'll be fixed too.
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Advent Rising
Outrun 2
Guilty Gear X2 # Reload

Still waiting on those, but it seems unlikey that we'll ever get them.
Quote:Guilty Gear X2 # Reload

I was playing this with my cousin on their Xbox while I was there on break (after giving it to them for christmas)... great game...

... it meant we had a modern 2d fighting game to play other than CvS2 on my GC (which I still love, but have played a lot of over the last few years)... :D

But yes, to me Panzer Dragoon Orta and the 2d fighting games are the biggest holes in the X360's BC list. Not ONE 2d fighting game? Not one? Mad

I know I don't have an Xbox, or a 360, but I wouldn't want to have to get both when the 360 supposedly has backward compatibility... but it still doesn't, and probably won't ever, support the games I want most. :(
There's also SF2 Hyper edition (the collector's edition) which has online play (with pretty much no lag at all, a rarity with fighting games) but only on the XBox. The thing is, they put SF2 TURBO on the arcade, which is the "lesser" version. Collector's edition not only has the very latest iteration of the game, but you can also play with all previous version's characters if you wish. Also it has SFIII 3rd Strike. It would basically blow the SF2Turbo in the Live Arcade out of the water if they would make that one compatible. Plus, every once in a while, I can actually FIND an online match in that game, so there's that! Also, there's Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Yeah, I know someone with a PS2 who likes fighting games... played both of those games. I think I like CvS2 more than either (SFIII or MvC2), though, though of course I don't own them... (one reason I like CvS2 is because it has SNK characters in it -- I almost always play as them, not the Capcom ones...)

Hyper SFII is definitely the best version of that game, no question. I agree that SFII in VC or SFII Turbo in Live Arcade are far behind it and make those releases matter a lot less...

... if I had an Xbox I'd be interested in all of major 2d fighting games, I think... King of Fighters 2002/2003, Samurai Shodown V, King of Fighters NeoWave, SNK vs Capcom, Street Fighter Anniversary, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, Guilty Gear Isuka (if that's really a standard fighting game)... I know that SNK vs Capcom and Capcom Fighting Evolution aren't that good (and Samurai Shodown V isn't as good as SSIII or SSIV), but with how low the prices for most of those games are these days, when you see them...
Well, after leaving it sitting on my computer for some time (months?) I finally got around to playing the Psychonauts demo, and as expected it's great. The demo level (the first level) wasn't exactly hard, except for a couple parts near the end, but it was great... for some reason by the end of the demo I was thinking that it reminded me of Alice a bit... not sure why. Because they're both strange games with very interesting art design and some platforming?
You haven't bought Pyschonauts yet?!
There are a lot of games I want and mean to get sometime but just just haven't quite get around to buying... as far as PC games go some of the worst in that regard would include Thief, Thief II, System Shock 2, Psychonauts, Dreamfall, Psychonauts, KotOR II, Greyhawk: Temple of Elemental Evil, the aforementioned Alice, Vampire: Redemption and Vampire: Bloodlines, etc... Bioshock could be added too, but that one's more recent.

But yes, playing it does make me want it more...
After Bioshock I have an interest in the System Shock games. Here's hoping Bioshock's popularity leads that company to rerelease those two. The first one's a DOS game it seems so they'll likely be lazy about that and just DOSBox it (a common move these days) and send it up on Steam that way. That'll do so long as it runs well in DOSBox. The second one was made for Windows 9x, but it was one of those early ones that wasn't coded for DirectX so it has serious problems running in XP from what I've read. That one will need to be recoded a bit to work right, then they can put it up on Steam.
System Shock 2 ran fine on my XP computer.
Thinking of a few more... arguably Half-Life (plus expansions) and Half-Life 2 (Orange Box?) could be added, but I'm not sure about those. The Dig, Loom, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, Full Throttle, and (because I lost my copy five years ago) Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis definitely qualify, however.

On that note, I got the (quite cheap) Commander Keen Steam pack so that I could get Keen 5 (the only Keen game I didn't have on floppy disk, Keen Dreams excepted, and I have that one as full shareware since you don't need to register to play the whole game), and found that the built-in DOSBox version they have that Stream launches just crashes. I only got it working by running the program with my normal install of DOSBox. At least they let you do that and put the whole folders there so you can just copy it into a more convenient folder (that is, in a subfolder of my DOS programs folder)...

As for System Shock 2... huh, nope, don't have the demo here, can't check that right now. It worked fine on my old computer though, though demos aren't always representative of how full versions will run (examples of that fact: Zone 66 (shareware: works fine in WinME; full: extremely uncompatible and demands a special no-TSRs boot) and Recoil (demo: always worked fine; full: major issues on some PCs)).
