I just don't like the PSP that much. Yes, it has pretty PS2-esque graphics and that's all cool I guess, but it just isn't that great. And then there's Libery City Stories, the PSP's cornerstone must-have masterpiece that you're a fool for not buying on the release day, is GTAIII-2. I played GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas for many many hours and I find I have little desire to play it again, and that's exactly what it is, every 3D GTA game you've already played only now it's on a handheld and I don't care. The graphics are the best ever on a handheld but the music isn't anything great. I may just sell both of them and get some DS games or something.

I've already played Mario Kart DS for a longer period of time than Liberty City stories despite having the former for only 2 days and the latter for nearly 2 weeks.

DS >>>>>>> PS2 Portable
My GBA's batteries only seem to last 15 hours and it's a pain... I've already gone through three sets of batteries this semester and the fourth is now in the red...
You should get a DS so you can recharge the batteries.
I remember the original GB seeming to last forever on a charge... sure it used twice as many batteries, but it seemed to last a really long time. I'm not sure if the per-battery lifetime is the same or less on GBC/GBA (they're about the same battery-life wise I think), though...
I think it was around 20 hours.
That's about right.

And yes, if you are going to complain about it, then all we can offer you as a solution is to get an SP. They are cheaper now. If it's still not interesting to you, then stop whining! :D

And oh yes, the topic on the main board said "GR has opinions". Haha, how hilariously informative and yet hinting at controversy.

Liberty City stories the number one PSP game? Hardly. I'm not even interested in the series, much less this iteration of it.

Get Lumines if you have ANY interest in a good puzzle game. It's as good as Meteos, and surprisingly, it is EXACTLY as good, perfectly equivilent. So far though, that's the only super must have title for the system...

I still wouldn't own one except it was given to me by another, and I could hardly reject it. I did want one, I just didn't want to part with that much money. And, for free, it's a very nice system. I'm using it as my MP3 player as well, and I must say, combining multiple purposes into a single machine really IS a good thing. I have a hard time convincing myself otherwise. Sure the MP3 features don't really help the gaming features, at all (though they could potentially if a game would let you use a custom soundtrack), but they sure help the MP3 features of the system :D. Plus I have a 1 gig memory card, so it all works out.

I may pick up Metal Gear Acid or Death Jr. I've heard good things about them, but apparently Lumines is still the best game on the system, and I have to say it is very addictive.

So yeah, I have put way more hours into my DS so far, thanks to things like Kirby, Meteos, and now my new obsession, Mario Kart. However, Lumines is awesome and it's nice to have a decent MP3 player. And no, I really don't care how random the randomization feature is on an iPod. Stupid little playlist features like that aren't worth it costing MORE than a PSP. Also, it's amazing how they keep releasing iPods with LESS capacity and ADVERTISING that fact. The original iPod's size was just fine, what's the point in a smaller one? I've said it before, but it bears repeating. It is going to take a sneeze destroying thousands of dollars of equipment before the world wakers up and realizes you can get too small. Have you seen those Sony memory sticks? Those things are worse than small, (and they ARE right at the level of "too small"), they are FRAGILE. To get them that size they make this REALLY thin plastic that flexes with the force needed to resist GRAVITY. I mean, I'm terrified of breaking this thing so it never ever leaves my PSP. Also, it is just a tad too small and I may lose it on a dark surface.

I must say it would be for the best if they just made that the absolute minimum size any electronic device that is intended to be used and stored seperatly by the average user can ever be. I don't care if the rest is just empty space in the plastic case from this point on, it needs to be strong enough to resist being stepped on accidently, and large enough that I can FIND the thing. Those are basic size and structure requirements.
Quote:get an SP. They are cheaper now.

$80 now, versus $100 when I bought my GBA (for $60 new)... not that much cheaper.

As for the PSP, Katamari PSP has been announced.
Get this though: Wal-Mart will be selling all of the old-style SP units for $48 on Black Friday.

You didn't hear this from me.
I think I'm going to trade in my PSP and get a DS [so I won't have to borrow my brother's] and get Mario Kart DS.

Quote:Liberty City stories the number one PSP game?

It might not mean anything to you, but for a lot of people it's the PSP game they've been waiting for. I was one of those people...until I played it. It's just not worth the money.
So you don't actually own a DS yet? Shame on you :D.

If it's a choice between a PSP or a DS, and it's your money, go for the DS. With all that extra cash, buy your own Mario Kart, Meteos, and Kirby. Hopefully after sales tax it'll be enough.

And ABF, though Weltall directly lied about where I heard this from, he apparently says Walsmart is selling ultra cheap SPs. Sure, it's the older models and it is apparently to clear up room or something, but that's okay for the price, right? The old screen is still plenty bright enough.
I'm going to sell my SP. I want that newer, brighter screen.

Yes, the old SPs are going to be only fitty bucks, but that screen is totally worth another thirty to me. I brought my SP to work just to see side-by-side what the difference was like, and it's not just the brightness; the colors on the new screen are MUCH deeper, richer, and vivid. It's a gigantic difference. I really recommend saving a little more money and going for it, if you have any intention of getting one.

DS... I'm still not entirely sold on it, not enough to spend the kind of money they go for. But my girlfriend's getting one for Christmas, so I don't really need one of my own :D

PSP has been a massive letdown for me. Sony had the potential to rip a gaping new market for themselves and they completely blew it by releasing one new game roughly every lunar month, in-between three dozen new movies, and so far, not one of those games has come anywhere close to making me want the machine. Of course, this is exactly what I said about the DS for a long time, and they finally wised up and made Nintendogs, only to follow up with several more rather fun games.

I expect things will get better over time, and I'll almost certainly own one in the future, but this is why I never buy machines early in their lives. It's just not worth it to me.
The lunar month is roughly the same length of time as a calander month. Where do you think they got the idea for months? Break down the word itself! It's moonth!

But yeah, it is usually best to wait, but I got BOTH as presents, so hey, lucky me.

Speaking of, pretty soon my little exchange coupon (the store warrentee) is going to expire. I'm hoping Nintendo will fix some random feature of the DS soon so I can take advantage of it :D.

At the very least, I can exchange at the last moment to get a fresh touch screen. I just knew that eventually something you are MEANT to touch with a plastic tipped thing would start to show scratches. At least it doesn't look like store demo system screens. Weltall, you work there, what exactly are people DOING to store demo systems? Did someone decide the styles didn't really seem responsive so they opted for the Brillo pad?
Quote:So you don't actually own a DS yet? Shame on you

I do, in theory, but it's more of a shared ownership. It's basically the same with most of the consoles my brother and I own.
Theory is something that has been tested repeatedly to the point of it being reasonable to believe it. With a single blow, all previous data telling me you own one has been nullified. Congrats!

Well, at least you have access to one. That's all you really need :D. Oh and, I suppose if you traded in your PSP, you should probably use some of that money on a new router instead of one of those needed games.
The DS in my store looks like the victim of a rape/murder. The screen is scratched so badly that you can't see a damn thing, and someone actually cut the steel cable and took the stylus. :/

Thankfully, Nintendo Lady can replace it.
Store DSes do seem to get amazingly badly damaged really quickly...
I can only imagine what it takes to make a DS look like that.

Quote:Oh and, I suppose if you traded in your PSP, you should probably use some of that money on a new router instead of one of those needed games.

I doubt I'll get more than what it'll take to get a DS and copy of Mario Kart, not to mention that none of the places that buy games have any routers.
"Nintendo Lady"?

What is wrong with people today? Seriously, I mean you are there all day, do you ever actually witness the sort of abuse that has to take place? Perhaps someone was playing a Zelda game and couldn't get a key, and knowing that it was a touch screen, thought the obvious solution was to take out a pocket knife and pry up the screen to get to the key manually.
That never works, DJ. Trust me :D.

The PSP had me worried about the handheld market for a while, but Sony seems to be sleeping on their laurels and expecting the same overthrow they so handily got during the PSX-N64 era. Problem is, their main competition has not one, but TWO handhelds, one of which is already deeply rooted, and the other is innovative, fun, and (perhaps most appealing to some) online right out of the box.

Not only that, but as Ryan pointed out, the game selection is positively dismal. I've barely seen the PSP game library expand since the system launched. Now I'm not saying Nintendo is the greatest when it comes to mass releases, but it seems that now they're willing to fight to keep their handheld market so as not to fall behind there as they did with consoles.

If they had been challenging the DS alone, perhaps it could have had a shot, but the GBA is a behemoth (the worlds smallest behemoth). EVERYONE with even the slightest desire to play games can afford one, and, by now, has one. The game library is massive and, like any systems, has it's must-buy games. DS even has a couple so far with Mario Kart, Nintendogs, and (to a lesser extent), WarioWare Touched! PSP...I've seen very little from it. When it first launched, I looked at one, but they were too much for too little.

DJ - Death Jr? Reviews I've seen said it's terrible. Can't go wrong with anything Metal Gear though. Awesomeness knows no system :D
I see, I had only seen a number of positive previews for Death Jr. actually.

But yeah, I should pick up MGA. The PSP is also online right out of the box, however Nintendo was the first to actually get an online game out there. The PSP just tossed in a web browser (which would work MUCH better with a touch screen coincidentally).

Edit: I was wrong, they had a couple online games right at launch. Also, the upcoming SOCOM is online with voice support, but since unlike the DS there is no mic, they have to package in an addon for that.

I enjoyed Ape Escape, but the PSP version seems far too hard to control very well with just one analog stick. The PSP's only control based superiority is in that little stick. I say it's superior just because, in a traditional platformer, it is far better than a touch screen.

Wipeout Pure seems to be a fun game if I were to desire F-Zero. I may pick up that one as well for a decent pack of 3 games.
Death Jr. has a 65 at GameRankings, hardly enough to inspire confidence in its quality.
Someone else has already informed that after it came out it got negative reviews.
