Read it for more details.

It seems they are changing up the story a bit by giving the four characters distinct personalities. Also, tweaks to the various jobs (classes) you can choose from. The graphical makeover will apparently be pseudo 3D. Not sure what that means, but I think it may be similar to how in Four Swords Adventures the entire game was rendered on various 3D "sheets" to allow for scaling and rippling and other sorts of effects.

As I had hoped, they actually plan on desiging the game so it can be played entirely with the touch screen. I suppose PC style drag and drop equiping as well as targetting enemies just by pointing to them, yay! Japan catches up!

And it would seem there is some wireless feature. No details on that except it is supposed to be a treat for fans who want to play the game together. The minimum will probably be something like in some of the FF games where, during battles, different players had control of different characters (but out of battle, "player one" is always in control). I'm hoping for something more. Maybe an extra side-story where players control a team of characters journeying through a dungeon together? This is being headed up by a designer from FFXI, so hey it's a possibility.
No, there are screeenshots, it's polyagonal... sure looked it anyway...

Oh, and wrong forum... :)
It's full polygonal, but when you're in town you can't turn the camera. You can when you're in stores and dungeons though.
Moved.

Oh, and touchscreen menu support is great... it's an obvious thing to do in RPGs, it helps catch up with PC RPGs of fifteen years ago interface-wise... :)

Multiplayer: How? 'other people control the other characters' works in active-battle systems like Tales or Mana, but traditional menubased RPGs rely on setting up the team as you need it to be, making 'each person controls a character' maybe not work as well... it'd be interesting to see, but I'd hope for more than that too.

Of course, I'd also hope for visible enemies on the map, but I'm not expecting THAT one...
How was it "wrong"? Maybe not the best, but hardly wrong. It fit fine in the thread it was in before.
Quote:Tanaka said that the game will actually use "virtual" 3D graphics so its maps can't be rotated around, but the camera can still be zoomed in to show details.

I went by this, as I didn't see a single screenshot on that news item.
Yeah yeah yeah, what about IV?
IV is just a port... this is a complete redo. More interesting.

Finally found a link with screenshots...

But...

:bummed:
Well, apparently they will add at least a couple things to FFIV.

And yep, it would appear most of the game is CG. That "virtual 3D" comment doesn't make all that much sense now. It's not like this is a new concept, locking the camera in place and all.

Seriously, after this, I really think FFIV-VI should just be stuck on a single cart, with some touch ups like glitch fixing.

And also, I really REALLY hope the old game in included. Most of the time that's not a big deal, like with FF1 I still have the NES version. However, FF3 never hit our shores, so it would be nice to see the original.

'fake 3d' really... since you can't control the camera and can just zoom -- it's 3d in look but not really in play. Yes, lots of games do it, but it's still worth mentioning that that's the system used...

And Super Mario Advance should have been two carts, at most... one for Super Mario Allstars GBA and another for World 1+2+perhaps Yoshi's Story... but $$$ says no.

I'd say that there's no chance of this happening, especially in English -- do you really think that they want to translate two games when they only have to translate one (the remake)?
I wonder if the people making the Japanese version would even consider the translation? I'm hoping they will toss it in as a bonus and leave Square-Enix USA to deal with it, then all we have to do is yell at THEM, and they seem to bend to the will of the fans a bit more willingly than Japan.
Actually, I doubt that the NES version will even be in the Japanese version... I mean it's possible, but we've heard nothing to suggest it, just that 'it was unique and hard to emulate until recently'... which doesn't say that it will or will not be there. We'll see, but I'm not expecting it... sometimes remakes/updates do include the original versions, but certainly not always...
Apparently you can move the camera around when you're inside a store or house, but not when you're walking around town.
I thought that it was that you could zoom, unless you were in a store or house, where you can't move the camera...

Yeah, that's what IGN says.
Hard to break down the code and then update it, sure, but hard to emulate? Not so sure. Don't emulators already work with FF3, I mean unofficial ones? And, it's basically just that any instructions read by it need to be handled like an NES would, not that the system needs to understand what it is trying to do, just do it.

That GBA emulator they are using to run all those NES classic games they have for sale should do the job just fine, shouldn't it? And, the DS does have the GBA inside it, so...
NES emulation is complicated because lots of games use custom chips... I bet that they can't just use a universal NES emulator for all of those games but have to modify it a bit for some of them... or perhaps they made one emulator that worked with all the first-line titles and then when they did the next batch of NES titles on GBA they just fixed it up to work with all those games too. Who knows... but emulation isn't universal like that -- for instance the emulator in OoT/MQ for GC, when extracted, can run some other N64 games on the GC, but not all of them by any means... a relative few, I belive.
Custom chips? I know they use a lot of odd mapping, but most of my NES games use the same chips, no extra stuff aside from the battery backup.

I do know that some weird things can ruin a code translator, and that would be one of them. Still, FF3 couldn't possibly be that difficult, and they didn't really say anything that would really indicate that. Don't current NES emulators run that game? If they haven't got it to work yet, then we have something.
Quote:But we're not getting a true 3D environment with the title. While in the fields or town, you can't rotate the camera, as the game uses what Tanaka refers to as "pseudo-3D" for these areas. You can, however, zoom in and out. It seems that you'll be able to rotate the camera while in buildings, though.

Which was exactly what I said.
If true, that would be weird... and kind of pointless it seems...
I imagine it's because the town enviroments are much bigger and complex and so they can't make them true 3D, but they can with smaller enviroments like stores and houses. It's a lot better than having all the enviroments in psuedo-3D.
In other news, that eye pyramid thing on the back of monies freaks me out.
It's the Free Masons!

...

Or possibly the Esoteric Order of Dagon.
Nope, it's the Freemasons...
Yeah I know... That still doesn't keep me from getting the jibblies looking at it...
Actually, the All-Seeing Eye represents God and the unfinished pyramid represent man's inability to be complete without help from God.
Maybe so, but it's still Masonic imagery.

(on that note... the movie National Treasure... so pro-mason! That proves that it was a Masonic-created plot to counter all the bad rumors about their society, right? :D)
Yeah, those darn Freemasons! Always giving leadership awards to elementary students like they run the country or something!
Yeah, they have about as much power as a wet blanket... Wait a minute... I can't even form a cogent simile any more!
