Full Version: Bungie not the true developers of Halo?

Umm... heh... :)
We've been betrayed!
hahaha, the people tagging the games probably thought it was so much like PD they got confused. :D

Actually, it should read "Game by Bungie; Based on Rare's Perfect Dark except slower and lame! Order this and book 'Why everything should be bump mapped to death' by author L. Ron Hubbard and save 20%!"
L Ron Hubbard: Sci-fi? The real money is in religion! *gets brainwashed by OWN propaganda* Wow that was weird...

But, Halo had been in "da works" since before Perfect Dark. It's not a ripoff in any way I can sense, except off the FPS genre in general. Goldeneye invented plenty that Halo didn't even bother using, and every single thing Halo DOES use (missions consisting of getting from point a to point b and killing whatever gets in the way, capture the flag and those other standard multiplayer modes, even da vehicles) has been done in other games, before Perfect Dark.

The problem is, Halo did NOT steal anything from Perfect Dark. It looks cliche, the sound is stereotypical, the rumble is annoying, even the disk smells like burnt popcorn and I have NO idea why. It's basically offensive to all five senses.

Bungie: But that's only 4.

Yeah well, you know how when you smell something it kinda gets stuck in your mouth and you can sorta taste it? Yeah, I can taste it now and it's aweful, like salty garbage, truly disgusting.

Bungie: *licks self* Yeah I taste it too!
I would agree, but Halo has military and alien weapons, uses a 'look/aim/strafe' style taken right out of Ge and PD as well as the double weapons (though in halo's defense, you can use two different weapons which you could only do through a glitch in PD and Ge), use the same 'falling' routine, have similar balanced weapons ie: Sniper rifle overpowered fires slow, hand gun difficult to aim but overpowered, high rate of fire weapons do little damage unless concentrated = hard to concentrate, etc. These are staples that Rare arguably created or atleast, brought attention to and refined to what we know today to be a 'good FPS'.

But Halo is sooo slooowww and the MP sucks wang because of it.

And I still dont like the 'you can only hold a few weapons at a time' poop. That's a stupid way to balance gameplay. If there's 6 weapons on the map, i want to have 6 weapons at my disposal. I dont care if it's unrealistic, it's fun.

*goes back to picking nose*
I sure want a higher level than 2. However, balance is nice. To that end, PDZero seems to really make for a good system. You still have limited slots, but the limit is higher. To compensate, you can select your loadout before you respawn. Perfect if you ask me... sorry... However, there will be times when you want MORE AMMUNITION THAN GOD, so I submit that there should be an option to let you hold everything in the game.

But yeah, balance is important. If someone has every single weapon on the map, and is good enough to switch between them quickly, then those poor saps respawning with nothing really don't have a reasonable chance.

As for Bungie directly stealing from PD rather than the FPS genre in general, well, I dunno... I played a lot of PC FPS games. I've seen a lot of stuff, and really, Halo, and Halo 2, really just seem more of the same of that.
Play the Marathon series, and you'll see where Bungie got most of their ideas for Halo...from themselves.
Silly Mac users, those games don't count!
I'd like Halo if it were faster. Maybe not Doom fast but not the current wading through molasses either. Limited weapon slots don't bother me too much but I would prefer being able to carry more. They could have guns stapped all over your body and a duffle bag with a few more like in that scene in The Matrix where they're going to save Morpheus.
I don't know... it's limiting to only allow two guns, but is that bad? It certainly is more realistic, and adds strategy besides... though there is a certain attraction to the standard "walking arsenal" as well. :)
Halo 1's single player was very boring, at least partially due to repeating level design. The co-op story mode though was much better.
Sure, but that has nothing to do with the weapon-holding system...
Yeah if you're going to give players two slots, you better make sure the weapons have 2 or 3 firing modes like the weapons in PDZ. A SuperDragon from PD is pure hell on Earth and the only saving grace that keeps it from being PD's most overpowered weapon is the slow reload times and tiny ammo clips but when you compare it to the other rifles... and.... reload times........ burst fire.........

Oh holy krap I need to rob a bank. I have to grab PDZ at launch. I NEED to HAVE this GAME. I WANT PERFECT DARK ZERO DAMMIT! FUCKING 500 DOLLAR SYSTEM, FUCKING MICROSOFT, FUCKING RARE FOR PUTTING IT ON 360 AND NOT XBOX WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN CHEAPER AND EASIER TO AFFORD BUT NO, I NEED TO STEAL A GUN AND ROB A BANK AND PROBABLY KILL AN OLD SECURITY GUARD WHO I THOUGHT WAS REACHING FOR HIS GUN JUST SO I CAN PLAY PDZ... IN JAIL! THEY PROBABLY DONT ALLOW VIDEO GAMES IN JAIL! I'D STILL BE SCREWED! FUCK YOU, BILL GATES! FUCK YOU MS MARKETING! THE FUCKING HELL FUCK ASS IT'S FUCKER SHITTING ASS ON FUCK!!!!!

MATT DAMON!!!!!!

...

okay... weird...
PDZ, from what I've read, has 4 slots for weapons. However, some weapons, like the unholy wargod known as the rocket launcher (well, not so much in PD, but in other FPS games it's something to reach for) take up 2 or even 3 slots.

Ya know, I have a feeling PDZ will use every single feature the 360 can offer. In other words, I'm expecting it to use the hard drive for downloadable content and saving custom maps (I really hope they add that feature) and maybe even custom character model data. It may well be designed for use without the HD, but without those features, or at least with those features "capped" to the maximum capacity of whatever memory units you currently have in the system.

I base this only on Rare's history of doing things like that for their really highly anticipated games. No announcements yet, but I'm saying don't be surprised to hear you really need to get the hard drive.

And yeah, it sucks... I really don't have much of a desire to even get a next gen system, except that PDZ is going to be on one of them... I mean, they don't look all that spectacular yet, and what with that football demo (which may just be a very incomplete realization, much like how a lot of 3D games look terrible until after that crunch time when they finally get to texturing and "effecting" everything), I'm not all that excited yet.

hahaha I swear to god, after apocolypse when we're down to a less than 1% population and we survive on cockroaches and flavored styrofoam, Penny Arcade will be the first book in the new Bible.
