"Every generation needs a new revolution." - Thomas Jefferson
10 days!!
W00T!

I'm hoping for some Revolution SSB info!
I am as well! And Metroid Prime 3!!
Don't expect too much though... Nintendo hasn't promised anything, and given them, I'd put it at about as good chances they show almost nothing as that they show something worthwhile.
"E3 was not the time to show Revolution... we will reveal the Revolution later this year."

""We will reveal the Revolution in all its glory later, for now we wanted to show what's coming."

About keynote speeches: Nintendo only throws a keynote speech when they have a new console to show off.

I could see, however, that Nintendo gives a definite date on the Revolution and it could end up being a 2006 Christmas release though. Regardless, TGS is the only logical place to show off Revolution... unless they want to wait for next year's E3.

In 10 minutes, it'll be 9 days. :D

And just for shits and giggles, imma put the 3-D aspect on the table. I can see Nintendo pushing a 3-D perepheral to help them put Revolution in its own catagory. Sly Cooper 3 will come with 3-D glasses though they're the cheap red and blue style. If Nintendo were to do it, they would go for the LCD glasses which would retain all the color information... then it's just a question of upping the brightness of the TV's or monitors. Which I would assume, if the tech is made available for a particular game, the 'Turn 3-D on' option would compensate for loss in brightness and the slight graying.

But most people wouldn't give a shit anyways.
Teh 9 days!!

I'm keeping myself busy via Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, which I haven't played until now. Awesome game so far...
They had a 3D accessory for the Famicom.

It didn't sell well.

They created the Virtual Boy.

That didn't do well.

While 3D is nice and all, I really don't think anyone cares about it any more. I mean, no one really wants to wear some special glasses or goggles just to play a game.

Don't worry though. When eye-toy 2.0 comes out, an actual cybernetic eye implant sold in pairs, THEN games can be designed specifically to communicate with them and 3D can just BE without anything needed but VERY risky and expensive surgery.
:D

all you have to do is ask any game player, look at any Nintendo message board, read any game mag or any Nintendo site to see that thousands, probably millions of people want 3-D. The 3-D used in Terminator 2 3-D or Shrek 4-D is what people want.

The idea of VR stereoscopic goggles wont happen until the tech is much, much cheaper. Nintendo even said with the Virtual Boy that they considered releasing a color version but it would just be too expensive. People wanted the Virtual Boy, but they didnt want red and black graphics. Nor do they want the blue and red 3-D. But if you give them a pair of LCD shutter glasses which are super cheap and a game specifically programmed to use them and you'll have a sharp, bright 3-D picture in full color.

The LCD shutters allow for an image to appear within inches of your face or have the depth of about a mile. A game like Metroid Prime would give you the HUD an inch away from your face with the world appearing like a window you look in to until an enemy fires at you or a Metroid attaches itself to you. Then it's litteraly in your living room. and it would look GOOD, as good as the attractions at Universal Studios.

But more importantly, it would be cheap and easy to design. All you need is a LCD switcher that would go on top or bottom of your TV and the glasses that are completely wireless and I believe they run on watch batteries for weeks before needing to be replaced.

It would add so much to games and even generate new types of gameplay ideas and it's a tech that can be done right now. I dont see how it would disappoint anyone.

*that voice used in Disney Animal geographic-like shows*

It turns out that the big old rumor mill is at it again. This time it has to do with Sonic's next gen showing.

Keeping in mind that we just got screens and info of Sonic Riders for GC, PS2 and XBox, the rumor suggests that Sega will unveil the next generation Sonic tomorrow (the 9th). This new game will be a Revolution title as well as other platforms (probably PS3 and XBox2).

Remember the video I posted that was a closed-doors showing of next gen Sonic? Could that be what we're going to see? ...why not wait till TGS to show it? In the past few months they're getting ready to release Shadow, they already released the Sonic Collections, now priming the pump on Sonic Riders for this gen ...AND start the hype on next gen titles? If sega was going to show a next-gen Sonic to the public I dont understand why they would show it before TGS or let alone a little over a week till the event. But weirder things have happened.

Now where's that video...
About 10 years ago, I can't remember exactly how long it was. I went to Camp Snoopy at the Mall of America. They had a theatre that showed a 3D movie there. They didn't use the cheap red and blue paper glasses that I had used before. They gave us all a pair of plastic glasses with clear lenses to wear. I think they were polarized lenses. What stands out was that was the best 3D I'd ever seen. There were some fish swimming and they appeared to be no more then a foot or so away from me. It really felt like I could reach out and touch them. It seems to me it wouldn't be very expensive to have an optional mode that used glasses of that type.
Polarized is a good route too. One lens is actually darker than the other. While you lose brightness and contrast you retain most of the color information. And if you project it on a silver screen instead of a white one you can retain some of the brightness and contrast. But you field of 3-D is limited and it often gets blurry, you can usually still clearly make out the ghost images.

LCD shutter glasses use the same principle, one lense is darker than the other but it's switching back and forth at an extremely fast rate. The speed at which it switches dictates the level of 3-D you're seeing, a box sends the signal to the glasses telling it when to turn the effects up or down or what is 'distant' and what is 'close'. A movie still has to use two cameras for this effect but a mirror box to split the image at slightly different angles works well too.

In a video game you could tell an object exactly where it is on a 3-D plane when viewed by a slight degree of seperation. There would never be any guess work and it would look beautiful. Just as CGI looks better in 3-D as compared to what is filmed.

What's also nice about LCD shutter glasses is that you dont have to sit a certain distance from the screen, but rather sit inside a 'bubble'. If you're in the bubble, you see 3-D. If you're out, you see a flat image. With polarized 3-D (or red and blue) the degree of optimum location changes by the inch of where the viewer is in relation to the display device. You can also set shutter glasses to be closer or further back (you're just telling the box how far to send the signal), so everyone in the living room is seeing the same 3-D image regardless of their distance or position.

Of course what this also means is that people will have to learn how to properly calibrate their televisions and monitors. I cant tell you how many people I see turning their contrast all the way up and flood it with color and way too much enhancement to the point that anything slightly bright on the screen is blooming. A display device with poor settings wont give you optimum 3-D, in most cases it completely ruins the 3-D effect. You could throw in any THX approved DVD and use the "tHX Optimizer" to get your device closer to standards but usually the TV manufacturers jack your set in to torch mode, throw in red-push and green-push and other effects that ruin the picture. You can only change those in the service mode (which you need a special code to get in to and then have a service manual to tell you what does what) and some factors, like proper gray scale of 65D, can only be done by a professional or expensive instruments.

If people end up calling Nintendo saying "My 3-D doesnt work!" hopefully Nintendo will get the ball rolling on getting normal consumers interested in proper calibration.

Creepy.
Not as creep as those old Pink Panther cartoons.

*ba dum ba dum... ba dum... ba dum ba dum ba dum ba dum ba duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum duh duh duh duummmmm...*

*Pink Panther walks out with a smirk and a sadomasochistic whip*

*Antagonist arrives; in just about every cartoon, he's a gigant, nude dwarf that's painted completely white, except for his sneaky mustache*

Nude Dwarf: *gets angry for some reason and starts jumping up and down, stomping the ground that emits little cartoon puffs of smoke*

Pink Panther: *giggles and whips the man on his giant, almost phallic nose*

Nude Dwarf: *puts on his protective, leather mask that has a zipper bordering the mouth*

*7-to-8-minute acid trip of anthropomorphic panther that would be as gay as Snagglepuss if he actually opened his mouth to reveal his voice (which somehow, makes him even more creepy) playing cat-and-mouse with a giant naked white dwarf (not the star, got damn it) ensues, all to jazz background music*

I'm not kidding, man. That cartoon is just plain strange...
It's so true

But what I really enjoyed was the ant and the anteater.

Ant: Oh lordy, here comes that anteater, i'm gonna get out my new testament and-

Anteater: Always with the new testament! Why is it! I cant just walk over to you! and try to eat you! without you! taking out the new testmant!? Oy, This is funny to you?

Ant: ...And Jesus said, "One of you will betray me..."

Anteater: Stop with the savior talk! He's not here yet! If the savior was here, he'd let me eat you!

Ant: Now listen here anteater, i'm a Christian and you're something weird, I know you're smarter than me but I get away from you because God loves me more.

Anteater: That's it i'm done with you! I'll eat termites!

Richard Lewis: An anteater eating termites this is natural??

Anteater: Are you telling me?? Oy!

*slow zoom on to ant's eye, revealing Star of David on fire*

We missed FIVE!? GAH!

Well, I was going to say this at the 5 mark... but...

Just to play it safe, as Nintendo fans we have to take in to account the idea that nothing will be shown at TGS, and it will be postponed until PS3 is finalized.

I know we all know this, but it's important that it stays at the forefront of our minds as TGS approaches. There's a ton of evidence that suggests that TGS is going to be the Revolution's coming out party... but with Nintendo you just never know.

3 Days, 18 Hours, 9 Minutes.

Not nearly as creepy as the abandoned closet of your uncle at your grandma's house...

*slowly slides open door to reveal odd creepy watercolor painting of a demon*

Demon: Come on in here...

Wwah! *slams door shut*

Gives me the jibblies...

Yes, that's from Homestar, but it's ALSO directly from my own frickin LIFE. I love that kind of stuff, the random stuff no one ever actually talks about but is suprisingly common in our daily lives.
it's called knowing your audience. :D

All right, it's prediction time.

Mario 128:

We all know the interviews and rumors. "Mario will have a friend that is not Luigi or Yoshi", "It will be very different from other Mario games." yadda yadda yadda. I say Mario 128 is going to be heavy on multiplayer and co-op. I think the visual style is going to be unlike past 3-D Mario games. It will still be cartoony, but leaning more towards a Pixar movie style of cartoony. The 'sets' will look very real, grass will look like grass, trees will look like trees, but the enemies, props and Mario will retain all their oddball goofeyness. We saw this some-what in SMS and I think it's going to be taken alot further.

Super Smash Bros:

.....1200 characters. It will still be 2-D but there will be 3-D gameplay at points in the one player. In Vs whether it's 2 or 4 players, I think some stages will allow for 3-D gameplay. I also think the stages will branch out like in other fighting games. Like, you're fighting on top of Mecha Bowser's head and shoulders as he's walking. Depending on what part of his head you hit you'll change his direction. You could head for the oceann or go towards Peach's castle. Those areas in turn unlocking other branches. I can also see some power ups and meters that put you in new modes of play, like getting Link's Iron Boots so you become really slow and you cant jump but it's nearly impossible to knock you out of the ring. Lastly I can see a combo system with finishers that cause a slow motion effect during the fight. Which is another things i'd like to see as an item: Combat Boosts :D

Zelda:

..........no idea. The rumors of a first person Zelda have been around for almost a decade. The only thing we know is that "Twilight Princess will be the last time we use the OoT gameplay engine"
Super Smash Bros...

I'm not sure about 1200 lazy :D. All the originals, probably, perhaps without some of the clones (or the clones altered a bit more that slightly from their originals. How about more transformations (like Ganondorf becoming Ganon or Pokemon touching a special item and evolving to their next forms) and teams of two controlled by one (like Baby Mario and Baby Luigi) or, to a bigger extent, Captain Olimar and a small army of Pikmin (you can knock the Pikmin off easily, but they just randomly grow back after a few seconds, and you have to try and keep Olimar from picking them and using them against you!) I wanna see frickin' GENO already! The best character in SMRPG and a natural in a fighting game he's been overlooked for too long! Let's see...Tom Nook! He can pull furniture, fruit, and crap from his apron and chuck them at you! Why not have stages with complete underwater sections that can be fought in more easily with a Zora-transformation type item, conversely for sky battles with the...bird race from WW (whatever they were called). New Items! How about F.L.U.D.D? Not a lot of damage but can push enemies a long way and make them drop items. Luigi's Poltergust 3000, use it to suck in enemies and spit them out, or snatch items from faraway ledges or yank them right from enemy hands. I like the Iron Boots idea, but how about extending it to the Hover Boots as well? With them, you can land on thin air parallel to the stage for a couple seconds and give yourself another chance to get back on.

I know I'm hoping for too much but they can do SO MUCH with this series!
Fire Emblem characters from some of the games that came out here, instead of ones that didn't.
Knowing your audience eh? ... Somehow that's actually more creepy...

Super Smash Bros! You know, Super modes would be a nice addition! Make it simple though. No "super meter", just use the percentage meter for this.

Imagine that, after reaching 100% damage (this can be altered in the menu), not only can you be smashed out of the ring, you can also start using your character's super move. Just press A and B at the same time, and you use it. I suppose the analog stick plus that combo would let you use multiple super moves.

Pikachu could evolve into Raichu and use Thunder, DK could turn into Rambi and charge around. Mario could turn huge and start smashing up the place. Link could put on the Fierce Diety Mask and raise cain. Samus could shoot the hyper beam around. Captain Falcon could call in the Blue Falcon.

It would last for a limited time, and once it wears off, you have to get to 200% to do it again, or something like that.
Yeah! The Baby Mario/Luigi idea is great, their recovery move could be to grow a giant spit bubble that they float in and cry. :D I'd also like to see Bowser Jr. with the paintbrush...

I think the FLUDD and the P-3000 would make awesome items but I'd like to see the Mario Bros use them too.

I think Pikmin should be an item, you throw them like you do in the game and when they hit an enemy they keep attacking until you shake them off, after a while Olimar swoops them all back up.

As for clones:

Mario - Racoon/Tanooki, 'Jumpman' (2-D sprite Mario with hammer :D)

Link - WW Link (duh), Shadow Link (has a teleport move!) ...Tingle :D

Samus - Dark/Light/Phazon Suits, Fusion, Bikini!!! (faster but takes more damage)!!! Metroid Prime (as Samus, the way she looked at the end with the exposed skeleton, or maybe you see the skeleton when she fires phazon)

Fox - Peppy; All of Fox's moves but slower.. and instead of a blaster... a rocket launcher. :D And of course Falco. But with Fox, i'd like to see him use the staff from Dino Planet. Although Krystal could be a clone character that uses the staff instead.

oops I got bit by the tired bug, teh ni ni time

A Black Falcon Wrote:Fire Emblem characters from some of the games that came out here, instead of ones that didn't.

Well Roy IS Eliwoods son, we we got to play as his son, then we got to know his father, see?

...

Yeah, I know.

Ooh, Baby Bowsers paintbrush! Pick it up and, for a few seconds, streaks of rainbow paint appear on the screen!
I was thinking more like the brush would act as a staff for attacks but also 'paint' the ground to make it slippery. And maybe when you attack normally with the paintbrush it paints your enemy too.

I was thinking that for Kirby he could have a recovery move like... when you get K.O'd and you cant control Kirby back on to a platform a stylus appears and you can make a track back to the platform :D Though the stylus could also appear during certain combos

I also realized that Nintendo has a totally new franchise to play with: Advance Wars. I dunno how you'd do it though. A level based on Advance Wars would be awesome, stealth fighters flying overheard, hordes of infantry attacking the fronts, it would litteraly be like fighting in the middle of a WW3 battlefield.
I still like the Hover Boots idea...

Yes, if WW3 was in a cartoon...

... really, Wars World is disturbing, as I've said before... children fighting serious wars, randomly attacking eachother for very little reason? It's kind of weird, once you consider the "stories" the AW games tell... (story in quotes to show how weak they are)

But yes, there should be a Wars World map.
It's not for no reason ,it's because they're attacked by weirdo evil creatures who look like Pokemon immitating people

They're also not children as much as they are young adults, somewhere in the early 20's. In Battalion Wars thy're even older looking.

but Japan has a weird fetish with wars using child-like people. Just look at any Japanese RTS like FFT, everybody looks like children.
2 days.... i've got every game site bookmarked in their own folder.

Oh man oh man oh man
2 days!
I just realized something. Japan is like... 12 hours ahead of us or something right? So if they have the speech at 11 AM on the 16th, wouldn't that be 11 PM on the 15th for us...?

Isn't the UK about 9 hours behind Japan? And we're like 6 hours behind the UK right? ....15 hours difference? 8 AM on the 15? TOMORROW? ack, someone help!
Yeah, in US time it's Thursday evening, not Friday morning... IGN said 7 pm, but they probably mean PST, so it's probably 11pm EST.
Okay, the speech will be at 11 AM in Japan, in florida time that will at 22 hundred hours, that's 10 PM... on the 15th!!!!

We've been counting an extra day!!!!!!!!!!!!

ONE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TOMORROW AT 10 PM!!!!!!!!!!!

*faints*

I LIKE YOUR HOVER BOOTS IDEA TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

oh man, if Nintendo decides not to show anything, what's the next big expo? Isn't there a Winter CES show? That would be a weird place to showcase Revolution... this is gonna be huge.... I hope :D
10 PM tomorrow!! I can't wait!!

Not going to say a word about this. Just putting it out there.

btw the date puts this picture smack dab in the middle of the German Gaming convention. Yeah, the one where three (3) developers commented on the Revolution controller. Yunno, as if they just saw it for the first time. Yeah.

Gumshu... Bloody Afternoon... developed by Nintendo.

Yeah.

Not saying a word.

Do you see the controller?

See the orange arrow going in a circle?

Possibly hinting at the idea of Gumshu being software that is downloaded off of Nintendo's network?

Gumshu... a download only game?

Yeah.

Developed by Nintendo.

And the shadow?

Looks alot like George Harrison.

Yunno... President of Nintendo of America.

Who attended the show.

And probably showed off the Revolution to people behind closed doors.

Not saying a word.

Not a word.

btw I have no idea who or what Cube Panty is.
*paces nervously*
one day... we all hope...
"Totally new franchise"? It's been around since the Famicom!
