Is it possible that Nintendo (or its fan base) could over-hype the Revolution to the point that nothing short of heaven in a box will meet expectations?

There's talk of a controller that has full analog tilt and gyroscopes to distribute 'weight' while playing. Even talk of a trackball which, if you think about it, would make perfect sense. A trackball gives you better control than a stick. But the rumores also suggest that the trackball would have extremely advanced force feedback, not just 'rumble' but actual force feedback. Or it could all be one through the groscopic nature of the controller.

couple that with an affordable system that is wi-fi out of the box and connects to a free network along with downloadable content that includes Nintendo's enture library of games that will recieve technical and artistic makeovers along with some third parties which could include Sega, Capcom and Square who would host their games that were released for Nintendo's systems over the decades.

It is a console that has not been done before, an idea that has never seen the light of day. A true Revolution in this industry.

If the rumors above are true, then how could anyone be disappointed?
Thing is that's a pretty big IF. I've already expressed my point of view on the subject here.

Smoke-X Wrote:Who knows if it's true or not but I will say this. With the massive amount of hype this thing has gotten anything less grand than jacking into the Matrix will be a letdown for most.
Yeah, and I also agreed with Smoke at that same link. And most people will blame Nintendo, as if they have orchestrated this entire thing. Sure, maybe they pushed the "revolutionary" talk too much, but this controller thing is not really their doing. They simply said we can't show you the controller yet, probably because they were still working on the ideas and/or manufacturing, and everybody went bananas with it.
Yeah, too much hype is a dangerous thing when the thing inevitably doesn't live up to it... in this case? I really don't know. I'm being pretty skeptical about this stuff because I don't think Nintendo is behind most of it... some maybe, but not most. If they are, it better be really good... but it's more likely that it's mostly just fans, wishing for stuff like they talk about. Which yes, sets up others for aletdown when that doesn't happen...

Gamespot addresses the TGS and Gyroscope-Controller rumors.
I don't think nintendo will pull off anything revolutionary with their new console. I salute them for trying new ideas, but I'm just not seeing companies use a controller that gives you feedback the way these rumor articles talk about effectively. None of this is confirmed yet, but if this is the direction nintendo's headed, and we at least know the controller's gonna be a big part of the alleged revolution, whatever it may be, then ugh. Nintendo's tried quite a few things over the years which granted are innovative, (recently, the e card reader, gba-cube connectivity, double screen game boy), but they just haven't stumbled across the Big One, something revolutionary, as of yet. Their ideas are refreshing and interesting, but companies haven't been able to really utilize these ideas and features effectively in their games. There sure is potential in all these new ideas nintendo triess, but finding ways to effectively utilize them is a real challenge that hasn't been overcome so much by the software creators.

But hats off to Nintendo for trying new ideas constantly, for always trying to raise the bar in new and different ways. This is how progress happens, even if in this case it's in a field that is largely irrelevent. Maybe someday nintendo'll hit the Big One, something revolutionary that really does change video games, or at least alter them in exciting new ways. I don't think it'll happen this time around, but who knows
I could explain to you why you're a dumbass but I somehow dont feel like you're worth it. But it's okay, i'm sure your world is a relaxing albeit ignorant one.
They've stumbled a bit in terms of innovation recent years, but I think they scored big with the DS.
