All thief is good for is manipulating legal jargon. You see, the major problem with screwing someone via the law is that the person you are screwing has to actually consider the law worth obeying. Hence, black mage is pretty much immune.

No, he actually does obey Thief's contracts usually. That's of course why he didn't just murder Thief at the very beginning when Fighter signed that first contract making Thief the lifetime leader of the Light Warriors.
