How did we all learn to come here? Maybe that's the way we can lure in more unsuspecting Tendite scum.

I know that I came here, reluctantly, via Weltall, back in the glorious days of Cypherstation. I know that a few of our regulars can share that sentiment...
That may be true for you, but for most of us the story lies in the past when TC was actually attached to something that would attract us.

Namely, I came to this forum because it was an old forum belonging to... Nintendoeye right? Anyway, I came there because it was actually being directly linked to by Nintendo.com. At the time, I had NO way to know outside sites existed. The only way you can find anything is by random chance or a hyperlink when it comes to onlineness. The random chance was me typing in Nintendo.com to see if there was a site. The hyperlink part started a chain reaction that led to uncovering things like Penny Arcade. Anyway, the only reason I found this place was because after becoming bored with the main site I wanted to see what the heck a "forum" was, and after that I joined because at the time I wanted to see if anyone knew how to find Mew. (Turned out it worked because I now have an army of them.) Anyway, that's how people find this site.

Of course, ordering people to come here works sometimes, but not nearly in the numbers you get from things like a two link step from a VERY highly visited site.

So maybe that's the thing we should do eh? I think Nintendo stopped offering a listing of Nintendo fan sites (the sheer number would be a major preventer), but we could do something special maybe?

I dunno... I can't think of anything really unique we could offer, or any standard thing other places don't do a million times better.
All we've got going for us are the Shiggies and comics, and those are mainly dead projects...
I, like Darunia, was offered an invitation by Weltall as our flamewar dwindled and I've been here ever since. So maybe what we need to do is tell friends we know well from other forums to visit ours. I'm not saying spam, but to invite only those who might be interested. I tried this before at another forum I went to, alas, nobody was too interested.

Although I know others here visit other forums. That's an excellent place to recruit.
Unfortunatly, many of the forums I visit are of the sort that few, if any, are video game fans.
Yes, the key is not just members like the last few members we've gotten, who join, post a couple times, vanish, and might re-appear sometime and make two more posts before leaving again, but people who actually stay and post (postcount-wise, OB1 was worth more than anyone else here by almost double... of course that ignores quality, and other issues, but volume does matter too. Not as much perhaps, but it matters too...)... well, either that or a link to a site with enough traffic that despite the limited number of posts by many members we still get decent volume.

We've been doing the former ever since being dropped by those fansites. And... well, we've all seen how it's worked. Okay, but it needs help now...
Both of the other forums I go to are very short of videogame fans, which I why I go there.
For variety?
I frequent a Silent Hill forum. After all, it's the greatest game series ever devised. A forum in its honor is worth my time.

And for the record, yes, I did try to get some of them over here. Didn't work.

Of course, what's the point in going to three forums all dedicated to videogames?

Quote:And for the record, yes, I did try to get some of them over here. Didn't work.

Unfortunately, that's probably going to be the reply of most people we ask. They're going to ask "Why would I want to go there?" and what really can we tell them?
This is the only forum I ever come to. How much effort would it be to have TC come up when someone enters "Nintendo foum" on a browser? You'd think that newblood would be flowing into here.
Shows I watch:
The National (CBC's nightly 10:00 news broadcast)
Canada Now (CBC's dinner time news broadcast)
The Daily Show
24 (when it's new)
House
Corner Gas (show about small town Saskatchewan)
Judge Judy, People's Court, Judge Joe Brown - because laughing at stupid people is fun
Family Guy
South Park
You watch Family Guy 'eh...Ever see the one when Peter says "Canada sucks" ?

Rofl
Yes, i've seen it, it's amusing.
How much effort? Well, spelling ignored, what do you mean type "nintendo forum" into a browser? You mean Nintendoforum.com? Do you mean a search engine?

It all depends on what search engine program they use. Search engines are not built into any web browser. They are special pages that only exist online. No calculations done at all on your PC.

Most use google, let's go with that. Have you actually tried using variuos search engine with that term? Nothing. You get Nsider first, and TC just isn't even ON the list. Maybe it's in there somewhere. After a nice google spider archives this thread, we might actually appear.

Remember, search engines give results based on what words appear. The engine has no idea how to determine what the hell the page is, like if it's a forum. It's all HTML. So, unless we've specifically typed out somewheres that this is a Nintendo Forum, it won't pull it up as a result. I've done that now, so this ONE page will come up.

Further more, even then it'll be pretty far a result. You just have to have an understanding of how these things operate. Also, why would someone search out "nintendo forum" anyway? Anyone who knows such things exist to be found already has one they visit. Those, like me long ago, that don't even know what the heck a forum even is, won't ever type in that term. If you don't even know that something exists to begin with, even as a concept, it's impossible to ever actually seek out info on it. How do I seek out info on dragons if I've never even heard of them, EVER? I can't! The only way is to accidently come across that data.

For a variety of people to talk about videogames with? :)

Sounds about right, unfortunately...

As for Darunia, do you have any idea how many Nintendo forums there are on the internet? :)

*Scratches ass*

Ummm...two?
There is Tendo City, and everyone else.
If you meant two thousand, maybe... though it's probably a very low estimate. :)
Shows I watch regularily:

Trailer Park Boys (easily the funniest show on television)
Futurama
Family Guy
The Simpsons
Late Night with Conan O'Brian
Jim Rome is Burning
Pardon the Interuption
Chappelle's Show
I've heard of Chappelle's Show on XBox Live, from 5 year olds. What I gather is the funniest thing in the world is to say "yeayesss!" CONSTANTLY, unless you are busy saying "whhwhat?".

...

Sounds to me like one of those comedies aimed at kids with catchy lines designed to get stuck in their heads and drive whoever is under siege insane.
...

...

WHAT?!

Chappelle's Show is hilarious sketch-comedy. Yeah it has a lot of things that work well as one-liner jokes, but so do shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force. And anyway, it's more than just that.
Yea Chapelle never did much for me either. I didn't even like him in Men in Tights... and I love that movie.
I see I see, but you have to see it from my point of view, and that's that apparently the only thing worth constantly quoting among the kids I see on XBox live is lines that seem only to be funny because they are said weird. I've got nothing to go on but advertisements like that certainly don't pique my interest.
Well, now you have my advertisement as well and don't you think that counts for a bit more than something that a bunch of 12-year-olds are spouting on Xbox Live?
A little, yeah. It'd help if I knew when and where it was even on though...
Comedy Central, around 8 or 9 in the evening I think. Or you can just buy Season 1 and 2 on DVD, pretty cheap too.
If would be stupid to buy something if you had no idea if you'd like it or not... unless it's cheap enough (or you have money enough) to consider it disposable.
I could "just" buy it? What is with you and telling people to just outright BUY series they don't even know if they like yet? No thanks, I'll do the one that's, you know, FREE, and at least determine if I even consider it worth the money before I even consider a DVD.

I'd consider renting, but yes, buying something you've never seen is ridiculous... unless that's truly the ONLY way to get it and you're pretty sure you'll like it or you've got lots of money lying around to waste. That isn't true for me, or most people I believe...

Anyway, I've certainly heard of Chapelle's Show, but never saw it. When I do have cable, I don't watch Comedy Central much at all...
You buy games without playing them right? Why's that? Because you learn about it and decided that it's something you want to invest in! Amazing! *sigh*
I don't just walk into the store and buy some game at random merely based on a recommendation, however. I'd base it on reviews, and my own play of the game, if it's a PC game with a demo, and genre (what do I want to get right now), etc, etc... I know quite a bit about the games, the problem is just choosing which ones to buy. :) Difference there.
Your analogy falls apart for the reasons ABF said. Series I can watch relatively free. Movies I may not be able to see any other way than by buying, same with games. If this TV series had been cancelled long ago and the only way to get a wack at it was the DVDs, then you'd have a point, with enough data buying a DVD to check it out becomes a good choice. If this show's currently on television though, then suddenly that same decision becomes very stupid indeed. You see?
It's currently on TV, if you have cable. Very, very popular, etc... I just don't care much. :)
I was merely informing you that it is within your power, if you so choose, to obtain the series on DVD. It's not rocket science, people!
Um, whatever. You said "you could get it on DVD" and I said "there's no reason for me to do that". For some reason I thought that's all I'd have to say.
...
"Look for it on DVD at your local rental store, if you're lucky enough to get one that has more than just the big hollywood films" might be a better statement... :)
You should all rent Logan's Run.

I'd be very surprised if there's a rental store that DOESN'T have it. Season 2 is the highest selling TV series on DVD ever.
I meant places like Movie Gallery (that's the chain around here, the nearest Blockbuster is at least a half hour away...), where TV show DVDs are relatively uncommon...
I'd be surprised if they didn't have it. Very surprised.
Lost
Simpsons
Family Guy
American Dad
Travel Channel
Discovery Channel
Desperate Housewives
I absolutely hate all of these new reality shows. They're all choreographed.
I make it a point not to watch "reality" TV.
