Well, apparently while I was gone yesterday for most of the latter half of the day, quite a few things happened and our most prominent member left in anger, which is not usually a good thing as it is hard to reverse a decision like that. Anyway, so what exactly does that mean for TC as a whole? I'm sure most of you are thinking "Finally! Now maybe things will quite down here and be more peaceful". Yes, that's true I suppose, but I think the danger here is that things will become TOO peaceful, if you catch my meaning.

In a very real way, OB1 has been the fuel that has kept Tendocity's fire burning for the past year or two. We've been bleeding badly here for a long time, people have been leaving and the people that are here have been posting less and less. Now, every single potential post maybe by OB1 is gone, which is likely a good 25% of the posts made. That's big, but it does deeper than that. Think on this for a moment: how many posts did OB1 generate INdirectly. A large portion of ABF's posts were arguements with OB1. Now those posts won't be forthcoming anymore. A large portion of MY posts have been in direct response to something OB1 posted. Now those posts won't be forthcoming.

OB1 is likely the single most important member to keeping TC alive aside from Ryan. Without him, there's going to be a lot of slack to take up and I just don't think there's enough interest from other members to do it. There's a real danger here that, maybe not in one week or two, but perhaps in four or five months, that TC could become a ghost town.

I'm not going to pass blame or judgement on anyone here, that would just be pointless, but I think we need to step back here and look at the future of our little forum. TC's on life-support right now and is fading fast, even quicker now than it has been for past year, so unless something happens soon...
Actually, in the past few weeks the post rate has skyrocketed. Old members that used to only post every few weeks are now posting steadily. New members are starting to trickle in and actually stick around. Things have been on the upturn.

Now, OB1 leaving is bad in many ways, yes, but I wouldn't call him the life blood of the place. He started arguments with ABF, yes, but considering no one really bothered reading them that doesn't really count for anything does it. I tend to have discussions with lots of people, it's just that for most people it doesn't trail on for pages on end. OB1 offered a lot of good things, but the countless pages of arguing was not a good thing, even indirectly.

In the end, he will be missed, but we can go on without him. It's not like he hasn't been gone for a bit before.

So what do we need to do? I'd say not much. Aside from the threads regarding OB1, what is currently active TODAY? A decent number of threads regarding gaming, that's what I see.

So, I wouldn't make any dire predictions just yet. Let's see how things are in a week and go from there.

That was mainly because of E3 and the new Star Wars movie, but both of those have been discussed about as much as they can be.
Wow, I need my boots. The bullshit is neck high in here.
In this thread?
Well, ABF could argue with himself and Grumbler could just reply in nonsensical ways as if OB1 is still here, and then we would only be losing that direct 25% you first mentioned, and not the rest...
Oh ooooh! I'll argue with ABF AND help GR make nonsensical posts! I was doing it anyway!
haha
Erm

See? It's like he never left, TROLL.

Yes, this definitely is a problem... either we have to accept a big drop in posts, or find more members. And I don't like the former, and the latter... well, I don't know, how do we go about doing that? And getting them to actually STAY, and contribute...

I would not go this far, however. A good half or two thirds of his posts are junk posts that only you reply to... the rest of us won't much mind those being gone. :) So no, not 'the most important person'. I wouldn't identify any one person as such. But a major forum member with a massive number of posts, yes.

You know, OB1 has left for weekends, or longer, many times. The post count goes down. But the forum doesn't suddenly completely die or something.

Why am I not surprised that it's GR who defends OB1? Rolleyes

Sure, it's too bad he left, but with his temper, it was probably bound to happen eventually... and you've got to admit, the issue he chose to go out on is a pretty minor one.

It counts for something to me...

I really wish you would lay off on that, it's getting incredibly old. I've already stated in other threads my view on OB1's position in all this. Besides, if I really wanted to defend OB1 here I would have attacked everyone and said they were at fault here for driving OB1 anyway and that they should beg him to come back. I didn't say that though because it would have been an obvious lie and idiotic besides, but what I did say is pretty much the truth, with maybe a few exaggerations because of the mood I was in when I wrote. I defended OB1 to a certain level here, because he's my friend.
I wouldn't say GR was on his side. He is OB1's friend, to an extent we all were, though for the past year he's really strained that. It's to be expected that he's not suddenly going to rail against the guy about this like a jerk. I agree to an extent with what GR said anyway.

I also agree with some point ABF made as well of course.

And lazy, that's the ticket! Though, not exactly as harsh as I had in mind.

So here's the question OF THE DAY.

If you could choose between being the top scientist in your field, or having mad cow disease, which would you pick?

My opinion on that stuff is mostly in OB1's thread.

Mad cow disease! Wait...that's not what I meant to say...what was the question again?
Me personally? I don't think life offers such choices. I believe, with a little work, someone can have BOTH!
I say we throw him a "Never fucking come back" party!

I think the forum will be better without him. He turned into a stubborn asshole who would argue about the most inane pointless shit for no other reason than to have the last word. Lately he's been an even bigger immature asshole than usual though.
Heh, him leaving gets people to say to everyone what they've been thinking... :)
My thoughts are the same as last night. I had always tolerated him fully until he turned on me, and I hardly think I deserved what he gave me, considering what I did.
As I said, that's just how he gets when he gets mad...
And I'm STILL better than OB1! Because he suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. Deal with it.
Noted!
Considering he's been back several times since 2005, this is a rather odd thread to bump.
Not if you like irony!

Even if the irony factor would have been more potent when OB1 maintained a presence around here after the Big Blowup.
This thread is embarrassing, so I guess maybe I shouldn't have bumped it...
