Revolution at E3 2005
Nintendo may reveal more than previously suspected.
by Juan

May 10, 2005 - The rumor that Nintendo will not reveal the successor to the GameCube, codenamed Revolution, at E3 2005 has been circulating for some time now, putting the gaming public in a tizzy over the looming disappointment. Here's the real deal: Nintendo sources have confirmed Revolution's presence at the show. The company may decide to reveal the system's official name, technical specs and even the system itself. The controller, however, will probably not be shown. It may not be the system "launch pad" gamers hoped for, but to count the Revolution as a no-show is inaccurate.

Taking into account Nintendo's E3 lineup and other information, the company will focus on the handheld market this year. Specifically, Nintendo will focus on its new online service for the Nintendo DS and perhaps deliver first details on the new Game Boy Advance. Not the genuine successor to the GBA, but an improved version of the current model boasting new features such as built-in wireless networking. It may also include the Play-Yan adapter, enabling gamers to download games, audio and videos. And of course, Nintendo will spill a ton of information on its new, free online service, since it's actually set to debut later this year.

On the console front, Nintendo will provide a playable version of The Legend of Zelda for GameCube, along with playable versions of Fire Emblem, Advance Wars and Geist. Gamers can also expect to see the new Mario Baseball title. As for the Nintendo Revolution, expect certain details plus a video presentation showing a number of next-gen games. What makes the system unique may be revealed to some degree, but considering the supposed mid-2006 ship date, it plain doesn't make sense for Nintendo to reveal all, or even most, of its secrets.

Of course, it just wouldn't be E3 without a few surprises.

Revolution Coming Mid-2006
According to the system's memory supplier, anyway.
by Matt Casamassina

May 10, 2005 - Memory maker MoSys Inc. today announced its first quarter 2005 earnings. In a live conference call with investors and media the company's CEO and chief financial officer Mark Voll stated that MoSys would once again be supplying an embedded 1T-SRAM solution for Nintendo's forthcoming console, codenamed Revolution. He also revealed for the first time a general target ship date for the still top-secret next-generation platform.

"During the quarter we announced that NEC Electronics will now use our 1T-SRAM embedded memory technologies on their advanced 90nm process, and that the initial designs to be incorporated in SoCs will be used in Nintendo's next-generation game console, codenamed Revolution," said Voll. "We are excited to be a participating member of the Nintendo team once again as Nintendo will roll out its successor game console to the GameCube in mid-2006."

The news is exciting for two reasons: first, it's official word that Revolution will again use 1T-SRAM, the same memory standard that GameCube utilized with great results. 1T-SRAM provides significant advantages over traditional SRAM in density, power consumption and cost, according to maker MoSys. "Instead of six transistors utilized in a traditional SRAM storage cell, each 1T-SRAM storage cell contains only one transistor and one capacitor, thus reducing the silicon required and lowering cost. This technology has been proven with the shipment of millions of devices," MoSys writes on the subject.

MoSys did not reveal how much memory it would provide for Revolution.

Secondly, today's news suggests that Revolution will ship well after Sony's PlayStation 3, which is rumored for a first quarter 2006 debut.

IGN contacted Nintendo of America for further comment and will update the story later today if the subsidiary has anything to add.

I just so totally blew my load all over myself! "What makes the system unique will be revealed to some degree." Yeah, sure, okay. It is so 3-D it's not even funny, I'm ejaculating like a school girl!!! PUT ON YOUR BEST CONDOM CUZ IT'S TIME TO PAR-TAY! Sony and Microsoft are going to be licking penis for an entire week and we get to watch it live. Sure, everyone will go nuts about the Xbox2.... until Nintendo shows off Revolution. And then everyone will weep, the sick will be healed, and God will pop a boner! He will! and it'll be huge and black! And it will frighten asian women! And i'll ride on it and sing Kenny Loggins songs! WE'LL ALL SING KENNY LOGGINS SONGS WHILE RIDING GOD'S PENIS! OH HELL I'M HAVING A HEART ATTACK

*dead*
My guess: Revolution's real coming-out party will be at Spaceworld in August. I can't imagine it being released next summer with it just being revealed a few months earlier (E3 '06).
Lazy, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. I don't think the videos are going to reveal anything about Revolution's special features. Doing so would give away what Nintendo is doing, and we know they don't want to give anything away.
Yeah I doubt they'll give away the big secret.

I believe the gyro controller stuff, but not really the 3d VR stuff.
I hope Nintendo shows something cool at E3.
Mario 128!

As long as these things are shown I'll be happy:

-Revolution demo reel
-Mario 128 in some form
-Mario Bros. DS being a kick-ass game
-Four Swords DS
-New GBA
-Katamari Damashii DS

That's all I ask for!

What about lazy's post made him seem excited about Revolution?
