I've mentioned it a bunch of times before, going back to a year ago, but it's out today. Buy it. I will within a week (as soon as finals are over...)... it's just so addictive... great game. Not one you can play 50 hours a week for the rest of your life like a MMORPG, but it's not meant to be, and the fun factor while you're playing... I played yesterday (preorders can play for a few days without buying), and I think I put in 10 hours... yeah... over the course of the 8 public alpha/beta tests (close to 30 days, in total), I wouldn't be surprised if my total hours played is like 150 hours... yeah, it's fun. :)
No thanks. :D
No monthly fee, that's a HUGE plus for me. I may just pick this up, on account of ALL my friends picking it up. As I've said before, single player I make my own judgements, but multiplayer depends on friends liking something too, so there I pretty much have to have a group consensus before I can justify buying the game.
Quote:No thanks.

Yeah, you wouldn't like it, you don't like games that are fun...

It doesn't have the massive number of options of a MMORPG, but it's got no fee, and it's a fantastic game that's really fun to play, so I don't really miss them... it's different. Sure, you can't play it 30 hours a week for six months unless you love the PvP. But when it's this fun, who cares... and since you're not paying ,there's nothing forcing you to do that.
Haha, yeah I can see how paying a fee might get one saying "well, I'm paying for it, I really should be playing it...".

There is a lot of irony in that statement ABF... Was that intentional or not?
Hahaha, hearing that come from ABF is like Hitler calling me racist.

I'm sure it's a fun game, but I have no time for MMO's. I already have like five dozen games that I need to finish.
That's not entirely the irony I meant, but you were pretty close.
I was responding to ABF.

This isn't an MMORPG, and one of their big selling points is 'a lot less grind'... I don't know if you'd like it, but it is true that this game is much less about 'time played' than most games of the type. Though of course only time can give you skill...

It was a play on how he always says "you don't like games that are good" and his comment a few days back about after I said how 'fun' is a reason to rank games highly he said something about that not being the only factor... so he doesn't like games that are fun. :)

Quote:Haha, yeah I can see how paying a fee might get one saying "well, I'm paying for it, I really should be playing it...".

Exactly, and without that, there's nothing forcing you to play once you've completed as much content as you want to. Right now, they aren't even wiping characters after some amount of time... that could change eventually, but for now, no.

Dude you like Cruisin' and Gauntlet. So anything you say regarding this is simply laughable.
You know, that's not entirely logical... To insist that one must be wrong about ANYTHING they say because SOME things they say have been wrong in the past isn't entirely logical. To say you are skeptical of what they say because of the past is more logical. To say there is some sort of absolute sense of art however, well, I have yet to see any member of the scientific community state what is and is not art, and since science is the only thing that can say with any sort of certainty what Is and Is Not, then I must say that art is, well, subjective to the utmost as far as we can tell. This may go far to explain why scientists, as a general rule, have some very odd tastes in fiction.

Oh and, lots of MMORPGs keep your characters indefinitely. This isn't exactly one of those mind you, I'm just saying that games like WOW and such keep character data on their servers no matter how long you've had your account actually CANCELLED OUTRIGHT. By contrast, Square-Enix will delete characters 3 months after the account they are assigned to was cancelled. It's popular because it's Final Fantasy, meaning a lot of the players have no idea that that is NOT a standard practice, so they don't know enough to realize they should be complaining.

Anyway, as you may or may not realize, I've done a lot of background research on these types of games, just trying to figure out what each one offers and such. I've only played a few thanks to generous friends and/or open betas though.
You are reading way to much into what is nothing more than a video game message board comeback. Then again you wouldn't be DJ if you didn't read too much into trivial matters.

"'Doesn't give a shit'? What does that mean, precisely? That you won't allow yourself to go number two because of indifference to some stupid matter? Or perhaps that you won't give your feces to someone or something? That doesn't make any sense!"

Oy. Whatever Does that make you feel smart or clever? I know so many like that, and they're always the person people try to avoid. The type who feels compelled to point out some obvious logical or factual flaw in something that everyone is aware of, in a very annoying manner. I doubt you're aware of that, but it gets pretty darn annoying.

Can't you come up with anything better than THAT stupid old "insult"? It's irrelevant now and you know how wrong such a charactirization is, so quit it... I guess you'd rather just repeat the same old insult over and over, though. It's gotten well past the point where it's a valid point, now I just consider it a personal insult/troll... as it is... It's your choice to act like that, but it's stupid. Now, this time you could try to say I started it. But that was only partially serious, and the part that was serious was a direct response to things you said recently.

Or in short, Really, can't you think of anything better to say than "Gauntlet!!11 Cruis'n!!!11"?

So then, how about we just stop it and talk about Guild Wars... I don't want this thread ruined too...

Yes, a popular name will make something more popular, most of the time. Of course. And yeah, not all games delete characters... some do, though, and it's not a nice "feature". I know why they do it (to save server space), but it's annoying... oh yeah, and I think it's a fairly common practice, DJ.

They have good and bad points, but are fun in some ways... I'd probably have one, if they didn't have monthly fees. I just can't spend that much on one game. And GW has no fee and is really, really fun, so... :)

Too late! You started it! I merely stated that I wasn't interested in Guild Wars, so you started it.

I could mention other crappy games that you like, but I imagine that it's much more annoying for you to hear the same two games mentioned over and over. After all, isn't the whole point of this to annoy each other? You annoy me, I annoy you. Now, this doesn't mean that everything you like is crap, just that it's funny to hear you suggest that I have bad taste.

Even though I never suggested that Guild Wars was bad. That is an example of your inability to comprehend simple sentences.
neat.

IGN finally posts its review, but despite the additional time as usual it's nowhere near as good in quality (or in accuracy!) as the Gamespot review is... I could list various flaws in this review, if anyone cared. :)
I finally got the game last Wednesday. It's the same game it was in the betas, all right... and still so awesome... :)

I've never played a game for over 150 hours before it was released before, much less then wanted to play it for many more... but this game did that. No question. GW is the kind of game you lose track of time in no problem at all... 'it was midnight half an hour ago, right?' one asks at three or four am... sure, it won't last forever, but without a fee, it doesn't have to. Like with a Diablo II you can stop when you get bored, or complete the main story, or something and should almost certainly feel like you got your money's worth... and with all the stuff to do, I'd be surprised if you don't keep coming back fairly regularly after that, and then again once each new expansion is released. :)
Someone here (ahem, looking at you Smoke and DJ...) should buy this game... it's so good... I wonder if anyone will ever listen to me? :)
