According to the new EGM, Zelda is a fox in the new game. Literally.

I'll have more details as soon as I get my issue in the mail!
Um... huh?
Zelda is a fox in the upcoming LOZ game!

Quote:* Chicken gliding is back, and it looks just as silly as I'd imagined it would, in a" realistic" Zelda.

* Fishing also makes a comeback. (This looks pretty cool)

* " Eventually Link gets a wooden sword and learns combat in a familiar scarecrow-bashing tutorial "

At the begining, Link is this cowboy living in a small rural community Toaru village-not in Hyrule. Hyrule does exist, but it's a long way away. Actually, they raise cows in Toaru to sell to the kingdom of Hyrule. The two places have a freindly relationship with one another.
There are several other villages, and every year the kingdom of Hyrule gathers them all together for a kind of festival where all the villages can communicate with each other. Each year, the chief of the village is suppose to attend the festival, but this year, the chief orders this young man (Link) to go instead.
On the way to the festival, Link is going to encounter some kind of accident, which eventually leads him to the main adventure.
3)EGM: Will this Zelda be about rescuing the princess again?
Eiji Aonuma: Yes, the story will involve Zelda, and the story will involve Ganon, but of course the plot won't be identical to (those in) past Legend of Zeldas.
4) EGM: Where does this Zelda fit in the overall series timeline?
EA: I can't really go into that, partially because I want to keep it a secret, but also because we haven't decided yet. There are some kinds of...unstable, uncertain ideas we're working on. Depending on what course we choose in terms of developtment, the final ending may change.
5) EGM: Is it safe to say there is some major gameplay element we still don't know about, like the sailboat in Windwaker, that will remain secret until just before the game comes out?
EA: You're right. (laughs)
6) Is that why the game name still doesn't have a subtitle? Will the full name give something away?
EA: We really don't know what we're going to do with the subtitle at this point. (It could work the other way around)-maybe there will be some kind of mystery about the title, and somewhere in the course of the gameplay, you'll realize it's meaning.
EGM: From what we've played, the combat feels exactly like Windwaker-we noticed you can still smash shields, knock off helmets, etc. Do you have any changes planned?
EA(Remember ho) in Windwaker, if the enemy comes within a certain range of Link and you press the A button (at the right time), sometimes Link will do a special attack? We think that worked very well, so we're thinking about intensifying that aspect with this game. We've already added some things, like a jumping downward stab. We're going to incorporate more of those cool-looking performances (and a few other changes). People are going to see that this game is pretty different from Windwaker.

If anyone wondered about how Nintendo deals with the storyline progression between Zelda games... they've reaffirmed once again that they think about that last. For a couple of minuites. If we're lucky. ... hmm, I forsee yet another Zelda game that raises more ... 'issues' with the timeline... :D

A fox?
Whosa jigga wha--?

Okay, that's just... weird. Having Zelda be a pirate was cool, but having her be a fox is just... no.
I don't think EGM would have access to this sort of info before anyone else. Also, I don't think it is likely.

However, this might be because of a very obvious reason. The standard "she's been turned into something!" plot device.
This goes well with the rumor of Link being able to turn in to animals.
That might be kind of cool...
Weeelll, it's best to just assume nothing just yet except what we've seen. Besides, E3's nearly here.
It's only a few weeks away!
w00t!

We'll see once and for all then. :)

Uh, DJ, magazines get big exclusives all of the time. EGM has the big exclusive in this country. It's definitely real. It's not that other mags/sites don't have the same information, but EGM gets exclusive early rights to publish it.
I'm sure a good reason will be provided. And by a good reason, I mean she'll probably be placed under some sort of evil spell that Link has to find a cure for by going on a big huge quest.
There are some rumors Link can transform his shape in this game (IGN seems to think he can transform into a wolf, for instance...), so why not other people too...
Yeah.
Some scans, courtesy of opa-ages.

B-b-but how is this possible? EGM can't get exclusives! Lol

;)
Lots of nice shots there, of Link, but no Zelda yet...

It's definitely looking great. If I want to complain, though, I'm sure I can come up with something... :D

Hmm, how about 'After playing WW I realized how nice that graphics style is and hope that that's not the last Zelda game done in that graphical style'? :) Oh, this looks awesome too. But I hope that they don't abandon that style just because of some of the reactions to it.

Just one other thing, really. The NPCs DEFINITELY should have speech. Not giving Link speaking lines is fine -- he never says anything anyway -- but everyone else... not including speech is really becoming a problem with many fans who don't like to just read the text. And I'll admit that it helps... so it'd be good.
Although I liked the graphical style of Wind Waker, I'm just happy that they are keeping (and improving upon) the fighting engine of WW. Battles in WW were so much fun. It would be nice if the game was a bit more challenging, though.
Yes, that's a must.
There will be no voices in the game. :(

I wonder when Nintendo will catch up with the rest of the industry in terms of presentation. Ugh.
I know, and that's why I said that they really need to change that policy...
You sounded like you didn't know that.
I was reacting to reading again that it's not there...
yeah...
More scans!

Awesome! I wonder if you'll get to control Zelda in the game, since in a fairly recent interview Aonuma mentioned that we might get to control Zelda in the future.

The article:

Looking good!
Nintendo Power, trying to make itsself relevant? :)
Heh. EGM and other mags have gotten Nintendo exclusives many times before. That's why I was so puzzled by DJ's remark.
EGM's not exactly some small-time gaming magazine with very little clout amongst gamers.
A Black Falcon Wrote:Nintendo Power, trying to make itsself relevant? :)

I thought the same thing...except I spelled "itself" correctly.

That's scans of parts of two articles, you know... the NP one and the shots and stuff from the EGM one... but it is interesting to see NP actually have new info. They don't very often, anymore... same with all magazines. Other than special exclusives, because of the internet they don't have much in the way of new news...
Hey you're right. I thought that article from was EGM. Cool, so I have something new to look forward to.
Those last three scans are definitely from Nintendo Power.
The rest of the shots in this thread are from EGM, I'm pretty sure, but those three pages are a NP article.

It definitely looks awesome... even better, with clearer shots. :)

As for speech, though, all we can do is hope that eventually the repeated critical bashings (in reviews, etc) for not having speech will get through...
I never said magazines don't get exclusives (as in I knew it for a fact), just that I DOUBTED they did.

...

Um, also it would appear Zelda is NOT in fact a fox.
I liked Wind Waker's graphical style and would like to see it again someday, but this game looks awesome too. Can't wait. :D
Quote:I never said magazines don't get exclusives (as in I knew it for a fact), just that I DOUBTED they did.

Erm

That doesn't many any sense...

Quote:Um, also it would appear Zelda is NOT in fact a fox.

I didn't post the EGM scans...
Ok I got the scans from EGM and there's nothing about Zelda being a fox. So that person lied about what was in the mag. Well, that particular detail.
Well, considering that's the entire announcement you made :D...

And to explain it further, I never said flat out "magazines NEVER get exclusives!. I said "I doubt that they got such an exclusive". My doubt was misplaced, but point is, I stated it only as personal unsubstantiated doubt, not as something I KNEW. Get it now?
It was still a dumb thing to say considering how often magazines get big exclusives like this!. Game Informer got the exclusive on Vice City, remember that?

...
Yeah, it's pretty strange... magazines regularly get exclusives, and EGM is one of the biggest ones out there, so why in the world WOULDN'T it be them?
So...is Zelda gonna be a fox or not?
... i dunno
Then why did you say that?
Because that's what I heard was in the new EGM.
Well...obviously that was a lie.
Or something.

Exclusive: Nintendo Drops a Bomb
Read At Your Own Risk...
by Matt Casamassina

April 27, 2005 - You may want to sit down for this one. Just moments ago we had an exclusive sit down with designer producer/director Shigeru Miyamoto. The interview sprang up this morning after we got word of a possible delay from Nintendo France. What followed in the interview can only be described as a nightmare.

It begins with a rumor that was blurbed in EGM with their exclusive Zelda info, that Princess Zelda was 'A Fox' in the game. This spun many rumors of its own, including the rumor of being able to transform Link's horse in to different animals. But nothing could have prepared us for the truth.

Miyamoto: "It was our choice to take Zelda GCN in to a different direction. We felt that releasing another Zelda title on the Game Cube with such a different art style would confuse players."

He continues his statements while the new artwork and screens of the new 'Zelda' are projected behind him. One picture showcased Gannondorf holding a blaster rifle. Everyone at the table tensed up.

Miyamoto: The universe we created for Zelda GCN just seemed more conducive to the Star Fox one. I want to make every game a Star fox game. I know what I’m doing is wrong, but I’m Japanese."

The artwork shows Link piloting an Arwing, on foot, and in a Landmaster tank. One shot shows that the transformation is already underway, as Link has a tail or in some cases is hitting on Krystal who is now completely nude it seems. Some characters from other games make an appearance as well including Pyramid Heads from the Silent Hill series and Garfield, who was throwing pans of lasagna at giant insect mutant robots. We asked Miyamoto what the fuck he was thinking and he responded bluntly.

Miyamoto: Yeah, I can pretty much do whatever I want. You should see my living room. I have posters of your mom everywhere; Nude and inviting. I likey, Mr. USA. I likey your mommy. But so, yeah Star fox is the greatest game I ever made period and probably the best game in the world and Namco took a dump on it the cocks, so it only makes sense that I would put the characters in every game I make from now on. The one Namco made sucked ass so hard, so I’m taking this opportunity to do it my way, the best way, the Miyamoto way. I will also change the title, I will call it Star Fix and that is what I intend to do. The greatest crossbreeding ever - the bastard red-headed step child of Zelda and Star Fox. Even the Triforce will have fur-shading."

The once attentively titled 'Zelda GCN' (now 'Star Fix' according to Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto) had a tentative release date of Christmas of this year, but one could only assume the new direction will push it back. Namco's Star fox: Assault is also being pulled from shelves at the request of Miyamoto who exclaimed: "The shit stank, I cried like an elderly person, lost my key chain because I threw it I was so angry and all hope had died in me like an aborted fetus. I loved that key chain alot, do you know how hard it is to find good Lolicon keychains with painted nipples or real satin panties? Fucking hard. That's how hard."

In my opinion, this is not a smart move..... oh hell, it's the dumbest fucking thing Nintendo could do to our beloved Zelda. But Miyamoto had a closing statement after making the announcement of the new direction for Zelda. We won’t host the pictures on our site, so if you want to see them you'll have to go somewhere else. Many of us at IGN are considering new careers... I always fancied myself as an erotic dancer... seriously. I'm not all that bad looking. After the interview was over, Miyamoto got up on the table wearing a paper hat and swinging an invisible sword. he looked right in to my eyes and exclaimed: "I killed Gumpie Yokoi because he's a little hooker. A little Virtual Boy failure making hooker and I hate his stupid face so I killed him dead."

I'm still wiping my tears away.

This is a very, very dark day for us all.
