This is much later than last time, but who gives a shit, right? Let's have some fun!

Last year I got four out of five predictions right, which I was quite proud of. This time I'm going to make some wild guesses, and I encourage everyone else to do the same. And don't write stuff like "OMG I bet Zelda will be playable!", because we already know that.

-Revolution: Right now I only expect to hear some specs (80% chance), maybe get a glimpse of the controller (20% chance), and possible, hopefully, a little demo reel of some games (60% chance).

-Mario 128: Fuck you, Nintendo, if you don't show off the game. You've been promising it for ages and just a month ago Reggie said that it would be shown at this year's E3. If it's a Revolution game (70% chance), I'm guessing that it will be shown really quick in video form (80% chance), and if it's a GC game (30% chance) it will be... playable, maybe (50% chance).

-New Nintendo handheld: I doubt this rumor. (5% chance)

-Since first-party GBA development has pretty much come to a stop, I'm thinking that Nintendo or other publishers might want to finally localize some of the games that haven't made their way over here, like Mother 1&2 (30% chance), Magical Vacation (5% chance), Goemon ports/remakes (5% chance), or some other stuff (50% chance).

-Awesome new DS games will be shown, like Four Swords DS (online)(70% chance), Final Fantasy III (80% chance), New Mario Bros. (100% chance), and Sonic DS (90% chance).

-Nintendo will show off some DS games that will utilize the system's capabilities in awesome new ways (60% chance).

-More awesome bongo games will be shown, and some like Odama will be given a name chance and a q3/4 release date (70% chance). I'm hoping that Jungle Beat 2 will be shown... PLEASE Nintendo (40% chance?).

-at least one big Nintendo franchise character being developed by another team, ala Star Fox, F-Zero, etc. (80% chance).

Well that's all I've got right now.
Being pretty specific there, aren't you...
Hey some of them are! And I edited the post.
Nintendo will show off at least one new game (100% chance).
OMG you WIN!!!
Alright!
But seriously...

Let's see your predictions!
Alright, here are my predictions:

-Revolution: Right now I only expect to hear some specs (80% chance), maybe get a glimpse of the controller (20% chance), and possible, hopefully, a little demo reel of some games (60% chance).

-Mario 128: F*ck you, Nintendo, if you don't show off the game.

Wow we think alike.
What do you mean? *reads OB1's predictions* Hey! You made the same predictions as me!
...

omg
Predictions... I really don't know. On the PC front the one game this year I'm really looking forward to comes out before E3 (Guild Wars)... there are others I'm sure I'd like, but it's gotten to the point where I can't play all new games because either of my videocard or OS (2000/XP-only games)... so for instance no Psychonauts without an upgrade.

Anyway... predictions? Uhh... hmm.

-Tales of Phantasia GBA, Goemon DS, Magical Vacation, Earthbound 0+1: 5-10% chance of announcement for US release
-new GBA game announcements: 100%; first party announcement(s): 75%
-New nintendo handheld: 5%; new GBA redesign, with improvements: 15-20%
-Mario 128 - I really don't know. I've been doubting the existence of this game for years now and that won't change unless it actually appears...
-Bongo games: 85% (Donkey Konga 3); other bongo games (Odama is a bongo game?): 25-30%.
-Nintendo will try to show off the DS in new and innovative ways: 100%
-People will actually think that Nintendo is succeeding at that with the ideas they come up with: 50%
-Golden Sun GC? 20%
I predict that all the game companies will exaggerate how great their presentations are going to be.

PESSIMISTIC'D!
Nintendo will not show nor mention a new hand held (unless asked directly). - 100%

Geist will be finished and playable and a large part of Nintendo's showing with Zelda, of course, being the centerpiece - 100%

DS online, online titles, and dates of when DS will be online - 100%

Revolution info and pre-rendered video/pics - 100%

(If they dont, they will be viewed as a failure since the other two companies will be showing their new-gen consoles)

Revolution real time pics/videos - 50%

(The only reason they wouldn't show them, is if they're too early and look like krap compared to XBox2 and PS3 pics and videos)

Nintendo announces new third party exclusives and/or a new second party - 100%

(I expect to hear something about Resident Evil, and this could become RE for DS, I know Capcom is dying to get another RE title on the market while the buzz floweth for RE4. In other words, a RE game, but not a sequel to 4, a side quest game similar to the FPS on PSX. This could also be totally circumvented by Killer7 as people would be attracted to the Capcom name just as much as the RE name. As for second parties, I think Nintendo is going to look in to more western devs and look in to FPS and MMORPG's as they are the best selling content for online gameplay which Nintendo BETTER deliver on)

Playable Revolution games - 0%

Mario 128 on Gamecube - 0%

New Mario game, or Mario Sports title - 100%

(Whatever the engine is for Mario 128, it wont be used in the twilight years of GC. Mario 128's engine will be used for a solid Mario launch title on Revolution. That engine has been worked on for years, so it's definitely being looked at for future developments. The new Mario game or sports title because I think we might get Mario Kart Arcade for GC, and also the playable Mario Baseball which should be awesome)

Previousely unreleased or Japan-only N64 and GBA games being released on DS - 100%

(Remember that awesome shooter that Treasure made for N64 that we never got?)

Rare releases Perfect Dark for DS - 5%

(Basically, the same N64 game with possible online gameplay and tweaks. Mainly framerate issues. Rare would do this to boost the Perfect Dark name and gain interest in Zero, but the otherside of the coin is that PD DS would sell like mad crack, and would make more sense if Microsoft released it for the XBox or INCLUDED it with PDZ. Boosting sales of DS wouldn't help MS in any way, especially sense their console is losing to the handheld)

New Metroid game for GC - 0%

For Revolution - 100%

(Metroid Revolution will be the major player in Nintendo's defense against PDZ and other high-profile FPS next gen. They're testing Geist on GC and Metroid Hunters on DS for that purpose as well)

Nintendo will make some random abstract claim that will keep people scratching their heads all through the next gen - 100%

Reggie will invite people in to a group-deffication party for the PS3 and sew the XBox2 in to the womb of a dead horse, then set it on fire - 5%

Reggie will give an amazing speech and start the new Console Wars on a productive, lifting note - 100%

Apps for DS - 100%

(cellphone, movie player, MP3 player, camera, organizer, speech to text, translator, etc etc etc)

The Wavebird 2 - 50%

(Nintendo already said a new Wavebird was on the backburner, it was simply a Wavebird with rumble and some rapid fire buttons. This is most likely not going to see a release, atleast not in America and Europe)

Boobs - 100%

(The hotties will shove video games down our throats, and we will like it very much)

I'll think of more later.
The lights go dark. A single spotlight flashes on. In the center of the light stands Miyamoto wearing the bodysuit from Lawnmower Man. (0.002% Chance)
Quote:(Remember that awesome shooter that Treasure made for N64 that we never got?)

Sin and Punishment... it'd be awesome if we'd get that game! It'd be very easy to port, too. Just the text... voices are all in English. Chance: 0.01%, I'd bet. :(
I dont see why though, it would be a straight port or just add some touch features with aiming and the menus, whatever. But I think it would be an easy to port game.

The Lawnmower Man VR suit? Smoke... do you want to turn in to a dragonfly with me and do me over digital clouds? Cuz i'm up for it.... if yunno what I mean... up... for it.... yunno.....
Actually I was thinking it would be cool for playing "Super Mario 128: Buy a fucking lock already" and "The Legend of Zelda: Well excuse me princess". But your idea's good too.
Quote:-Mario 128 - I really don't know. I've been doubting the existence of this game for years now and that won't change unless it actually appears...

WTF? The game has been confirmed to be in development by everyone at Nintendo, from Miyamoto to their janitor.

Quote:Geist will be finished and playable and a large part of Nintendo's showing with Zelda, of course, being the centerpiece - 100%

Well considering that it was playable last year and is supposed to be out in June, I would be extremely surprised if that didn't happen. But I seriously doubt it'll be one of their big games. The latest hands-on impressions haven't been that much more favorable than they were last year. It'll only be one of their big E3 games if they have nothing else to show.

Quote:DS online, online titles, and dates of when DS will be online - 100%

Everything but concrete dates were announced at the GDC.
Quote:WTF? The game has been confirmed to be in development by everyone at Nintendo, from Miyamoto to their janitor.

Yeah, and it's been 'in development' since even before the GC came out... that is not something that builds confidence that the game will actually ever come out. :)

Yeah. It'll be there, but not as the focus... there's a reason it's coming out in June, and that's not just because that's when it's ready. :)
Quote:Yeah, and it's been 'in development' since even before the GC came out... that is not something that builds confidence that the game will actually ever come out.

You doubt its existence.
We haven't seen anything of it in ... just about ever... so why should I think it's there? I mean, they said 'Mario Sunshine isn't Mario 128', but with no evidence to the contrary, I was doubtful... I don't know, maybe they are doing another Nintendo game. But "there is one" isn't enough, not when we know NOTHING about the game despite it supposedly being in development for years.
The company stating that the game is in development, given their past honesty about at least this, is sufficient enough to me that to believe otherwise seems unreasonable.

Now, as to it being original... Nintendo's track record of honesty when it comes to claims of that nature, especially lately, has been a little... Well, it being original is less likely than it not being original.
So ABF, you actually think that Miyamoto, Reggie, Iwata, and everyone else were flat-out lying that Mario 128 even exists??

Yipes
I don't know why Shiggy would keep saying it's coming out if it wasn't the case.
At the very least, they are working on it. What work they have done on it, I'm not sure, but they do at least have some intention of completing the project at the moment.
From last month:

Quote:IGNcube: Nintendo previously stated that Mario 128 could be a GameCube title, and then it suggested that it might instead be for Revolution. Is Mario 128 for GameCube or Revolution?

Reggie: We're going to answer that question at E3. You know, we at Nintendo are probably waffling back and forth on what's the best thing to do. Legend of Zelda is going to be on GameCube. We're going to launch that this holiday. And there's more to come on what happens with Mario 128.

IGNcube: So we can expect to see something on Mario 128 at E3?

Reggie: Yes. In terms of how we're going to show Mario 128, though, it's likely that we'll show it in video form more than playable. We have so many great games in playable form already.
Yeah, I remember reading that.
Yet you still don't think it even exists? Why would they be lying about that??
We knew about this game even before Mario Sunshine, right? Why would they be doing two Mario games at once?
You are thinking of 100 Marios. For some reason everybody thinks that Mario 128 is 100 Marios, which makes no sense whatsoever. It's probably EGM's fault, for using 100 Marios screens whenever they mentioned Mario 128.
So you think 100 Marios has nothing to do with Mario 128? I don't know... it's confusing, all these different titles... :)
Yeah and what about Mario 64 2? I remember near the end of the N64's life hearing about that one. Did that become Mario 128?
Probably, yes. 100 Marios was a tech demo that kind of turned into Pikmin. I don't know how anyone could think that tech demo would become the next new Mario platformer. Mario 128 = Mario 64 x 2. Get it? ;)
I'd think Mario Sunshine would be that, being the next Mario game...
Supposedly Mario 64 2 was something else entirely.
And you wonder why I'm confused about all this?
Yes.
I don't know, Mario 128... I'd rather have a regular Mario Platformer. Mario Sunshine was great... both challenging and enjoyable plaformer, so maybe they can keep that up in the next platformer. As for Pikmin, one of the things I would look forward to is continuation of the Pikmin series, so I wonder if Nintendo will announce a Pikmin 3 for the Revolution or something, or maybe even something for the DS in the Pikmin series that can be online. Hehe, Pikmin is a game series thats has a rather dark, law of the jungle, survival of the fittest theme that Nintendo somehow put in a rather ... well... euphemized style.
Quote:I don't know, Mario 128... I'd rather have a regular Mario Platformer.

Considering what we know about Mario 128 it could very well BE a regular Mario platformer.
Mario 128 is the sequel to Mario 64.

64 + 64 is 128. The Gamecube is 128 bit.

Miyamoto: We have an engine that is the next Mario game with Mario and Luigi running around, we just haven't decided what platform to release it on.

Could have been talking about Mario 64 DS...

Miyamoto: *after the release of Mario Sunshine* SMS is not the Mario 128 engine, I just wanted to try to improve on Mario 64.

"Nintendo sets up "Marionette" service" - Rumor: Nintendo's online setup or a new animation program for development. Confirmed: Marionette is a new development tool for animation to be used with Mario 128

Miyamoto: I think it is time for a new more mature Mario.

He said this twice, once before the release of SMS (which led us to believe that SMS was his idea of a new mature Mario) and then after the release of SMS: "I want to take Mario in a new direction, it's time for him to grow up".

I believe he's talking about the complexity of the gameplay and the overall difficulty. Mario 64's gameplay is very simple compared to Super Mario Bros. 3 for example which is a much more difficult game with tons of quirky mechanics, even an RPG-like menu system of powerups and items and a world map where you can equip those powerups before entering a level, these even included the ability to have suits which gave Mario completely new abilities. That system evolved for Super Mario World where Mario had different styles of jumps assigned to buttons which would alter depending on your current powerup and also the direction you're pressing.

Now take away the suits and add the mechanics of Yoshi with everything from past Mario games. Yoshi + Flying + Fireflower + Super Mushrooms + Level Warping + Switch Boxes and the list just goes on and on, any combo or all of them, any way you want. Play it how you want to; Suddenly Mario took on the gameplay ideal of the game player deciding how he wanted to play, and not how the designers tell him to.

And then we have Mario 64... which really is just Super Mario Bros on the NES in 3-D, just less powerups and some added gameplay mechanics from previous games. Now instead of kicking shells, you ride on them and flying is just as cool as it was in SMB3 and SMW but now it has no real purpose. You dont ever really *need* to fly in order to progress in Mario 64, just to grab a few stars in the game. And I think when Miyamoto looks at it, the first 3-D Mario game, and compares it to SMB3 or SMW, he feels like Mario took a step backwards in order to move forwards in to 3-D.

So I expect Mario 128 to be a 3-D Mario game with complicated mechanics akin to previous 2-D Mario games. A shitload of mechanics all based around the idea of doing the same thing in creative ways.
Mario 64 2, Mario Sunshine, 100 Marios, Mario 128, Marionette... which is which, which were real games, etc... I don't know...

Anyway, yeah, a normal Mario game would be good. Except with varied worlds, unlike Sunshine...
Well, Sunshine wasn't the new Mario game. It was a sequel to Mario 64. A new Mario means a new engine and usually new hardware. The Mario engine usually sets the standard of the engine that EAD will use for just about every game they produce. Luigi's Mansion, SMS, WW, Pikmin etc are all the same engine. An even better contrast is Jet Force Gemini which is the DKR engine. Pretty cool way of saving dev time; Mario games are always extremely varied in its presentation and mechanics because they want to try out every idea possible with the hardware as it's going to be used for a myriad of games.
It isn't the original engine exactly :D, but it is based on it. I mean, they sure had to make some major changes to it. Keep the movement physics and rendering system, redo everything else.
Hey I'm changing one of my original predictions. I now think that there's a 25% chance of seeing a new Nintendo handheld at E3. And that Nintendo will truly make the DS an actual third-pillar, which would keep it from really interfering with (or be crushed by) a new Gameboy.

Also, I now think that there's a 50% chance of Mario 128 being a surprise Gamecube game. It could go either way.
Oh please, giving random percentages? Nice copout :D.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that there's a 27.389% chance that we'll see some real-time footage from an actual Revolution game. I say that with all confidence.

I'm thinking that maybe Nintendo will tell us some games that they intend to have ready at the Revolution's launch, maybe show us a controller, probably won't show us the actual console itself, and they'll probably have a montage video showcasing some of their ideas for Revolution games like they did back at Spaceworld 2000 for the GC.
