Okay, here it is.

Keep in mind I'm coming up with the questions as I type this. The difficulty will vary wildy from question to question. Expect some really hard ones and also some pathetically easy ones. Good luck! Oh yes, this whole thing is riddled with spoilers. You may not want to read further if you have not yet completed the game. I have a list of the answers right here on my computer. If you have a different answer than what I'm looking for, but you can show it does accuratly answer the question in the way I worded it, and it is correct in that context, you will still win. If your answer is wrong compaired to my answer list, but you can prove me wrong, you win and, in fact, will get bonus points for the correction. This correction will be listed here. Oh, I might just ask some trick questions :D. Oh yeah, feel free to look stuff up whenever you want.

29. There is a special peace banquet held by the Emporer at a point in the game. At this time, you are able to do many things to impress him, which nets you a number of special gifts. What are these special things you can do?

30. What is the name of Setzer's first airship, the one you use in the world of balance? This isn't mentioned in the American version.

31. What is the deal with Kefka? No seriously, what reason is given for Kefka having a few screws loose?

32. Who is "Mr. Thou"? Think about it! There may be more than one answer here, I want them all.

33. There is a huge secret the game reveals indirectly regarding Shadow and another playable character. What is this secret, and what is the evidence the game reveals to show this?

34. Espers, aside from teaching spells, often also have permanent stat bonuses applied at level up. Which one is the ONLY one that gives a "speed" stat bonus?

35. At a certain point, you are charged with saving Cid from starvation. You have to feed him fish. Which fish is the best to feed him? Which fish is the worst?

36. There are items starting from Narche and ending at South Figaro hidden in boxes and other background items. Unlike the rest of the hidden stuff all over the game in this manner, these can be different based on something special. What do you need to do to change the items found in those places?

37. Finally, how many rads to the nearest multon? Be specific, this is a real question.

I answered every question. There are only a handful that I'm even worried about. Most of them were pretty easy.
Anyway, the whole thing is a total of 35 plus the bonus questions.

That was tough. It's been at least a year since I last played FF6, but I don't think I embarrassed myself too much. I really want to know the answer to the Gogo question because that totally slipped my mind if I even knew the answer at all.

I can be confident. I'm still winning. And the ones I got wrong, several of them were merely for omissions, or confusing certain things, but I DID answer every question.

I answered every question too...although I answered some of them by saying I had no idea. I've only played the US SNES version so some of the question about the Japanese of PS1 versions weren't very fair.

I did warn ya that the test was going to be very hard, and you knew what you were getting into when you sent in the answers :D. But yeah, it's not exactly fair. Just be glad I didn't go into details like "what is the rarest item drop the Bogy gives?" or something like that.

And yes, Weltall did answer every question. I mean, some of them were wrong answers, because the hardest ones I set up so that one would assume one answer if they didn't know it but the truth was something unexpected, and he did answer some incompletely (those are still wrong though, HIPPY!). Still, Weltall is King so far.

Would it be worth it for me to get the PS1 version of FF6? It is one of my favorite games of all time, but I don't really know if it's worth it for a couple of FMVs. Are their any other major changes?
Load times...
ABF is right, there are load times. They didn't do a good job in the ports of FFIV-VI. They did an AWESOME load time free job with FF1-2 though, but the portable version is... portable, so you know...

However, there is another thing. If you play FF6 on a PS2 and enable fast load times, the load times are reduced by a significant factor. Basically, the game becomes easily playable, and you no longer will have any reservations about accessing the menu :D. It's "good enough" basically, not perfect, but easily acceptable.

As for changes... They added 3 FMVs. There's one at the opening, one at the end, and a promo you can unlock in bonus mode (basically a compilation of scenes from the first two FMVs but done to the opera music from the game actually sung by an opera singer). They also added one gameplay feature. If you hold the cancel button (and they changed the controls for some stupid reason), you can dash even without sprint shoes. If you do equip sprint shoes, you will dash at 4x speed. Problem is, this does make the parts of the game involving a timer too easy. Since the loading scenes freeze the timer anyway, I'm really not sure why they bothered.

As for nongameplay changes, they changed the battle encounter visuals. Instead of the pixelization effect, there is a swish effect of the screen sort of splitting apart... The sound effect was changed a bit too. Also, the save screen looks very different. Hard to really describe, but basically it's designed to allow you to save to 15 or so slots and 2 memory cards.

As for the rest, the bonus mode includes a lot of game information. At first, it only includes a little stuff, but when you beat it, and only when you beat it, you can save a "bonus" file which unlocks everything. This includes a full list of trades at the colloseum (except in cases where the item is just to fight chupon over an elixer), a list of all strago's lores, a full beastiary that includes ALL the game data for all enemies EXCEPT for what item you can morph them into with Ragnarok, a list of all the espers in the game (including instructions on how to obtain them), and a theater that shows you the 3 FMVs whenever you want. Also, there's a special Status screen. When you unlock it, it basically shows the best and worst record stats for all the games you've played so far. Time taken, GP found, steps taken, and a percentage score on how well developed the characters are. The percentage score takes into account levels, spells learned, special moves learned, and stat boosting from espers. So, for Gogo and Umaro, who have no special moves to learn and can't equip espers, you can get 100% just by leveling them up to level 99. For others, it's tougher. Even after teaching all my other characters every spell in the game and getting them to 99, it wasn't enough. Teaching Sabin, Cyan,, Mog and Strago all their special moves adds to it as well. Gau is weird. His percentage was pretty frickin' high even after the first time I beat the PS1 version, with him having a VERY small number of rages, so I think his huge list of rages isn't factored into his percentage. Since I learned everything I could with everyone, stat boosting from espers must play a part in getting the others' levels up to 100%. So, the key is probably to keep each character at the starting level until I get the best esper for boosting the stat I want to boost, and then just keeping it on them to level 99, and then doing that, over and over again, until I get 100% for all characters. I have yet to do this, because while I'm obsessed, I do have at least SOME of a life.

Now for the flaws. Load times, I already mentioned. I also mentioned a way to more or less negate that. However, there is one thing about load times that'll bug you when you beat the game. You know during the ending, where they show all the characters and play their theme music? Well, the game loads each individual scene, rather than loading all the scenes at once before starting it all up, so what that means is that slowly, the music loses synch with the scenes. It really gets bad by the end, and by Strago's scene, near the middle, the music will have stopped completely (his music having been played for the previous character) and so you'll get to watch the rest in silence. Now, with fast loading, the problem actually reverses. Now the loading is actually too fast (for some reason they didn't set up the brakes on this like the SNES version has). You won't notice each scene coming in too fast, except the music actually starts being unable to keep up. By the end the book has closed before the music is done and it gets cut off as the next scene loads. I actually FORCED it to load correctly :D. I took the effort of paying very careful attention to the music and occasionally ejecting the disk and inserting it at key moments and managed to keep the music in synch through the whole thing (this only worked with fast loading, for obvious reasons). So basically, if for nothing else, this reason alone is why I play the SNES version when I just want to see the ending.

Another issue is the sound emulation. Yes, emulation. It's not exactly perfect. Some of the sound effects are off, and some of the musical instruments during the music are off too. Sometimes it's just different, not better or worse, but noticable. Sometimes, like during battle when some sound effects are screwed up, it is just plain worse.

Finally, there's slowdown. Because they didn't truly port it and just emulated it on PS1 hardware, the system slows down during battle. Soimetimes it also does it when you are in a bustling town with LOTS of characters on the screen at once, but the norm is that it's almost always during battles. Basically, the really flashy stuff, the stuff that involves large sprites or lots of sprites or special effects done to sprites, gets all slow. So, for example, casting Cure 3 on the entire party causes slowdown when the curaga animation appears over a 3rd character's head.

That said, it's not all THAT bad, but it is worse than the SNES version in this way.

Now for one last bit of something, translation. They mostly just kept the original SNES translation, but they did take the time to correct some stuff. For example, they turned Vicks into Biggs again, just like in the Japanese. Also, the intro scene with the thundering clouds and the Final Fantasy 6 logo appearing in flames now says Final Fantasy 6 instead of Final Fantasy 3. One other thing they removed from the US version, who knows why, is an awesome flaming image of Terra in magiteck armor imposed in the background behind the title, more or less between the words "Final" and "Fantasy". Think in the same way later Final Fantasies did their titles, and in the same art style. They also reverted all the artwork that was censored in the original translation back to the original Japanese. Namely, really minor nudity and enemies that *gasp* are SMOKING. NOA really didn't have what one might call good priorities back then... That villager still says the characters at the top of your keyboard instead of a curse word though. They didn't change the spell "Pearl" back to "Holy" or one of Cyan's swords (the Aura) back to the Masamune though... They also changed the character "Kappa" into "Imp". They actually would have been better off just changing the imp spell and all imp references in the game to kappa, but at least that was for continuity if nothing else. Last, as far as I can remember anyway, they changed Relm's Memento Ring into the Safety Ring. Honestly, I MUCH prefer the original name, even if Safety Ring was the original Japanese word for it. Also, the font is somehow different so some text boxes are filled a little awkwardly and scroll to another text box for a single word unlike the SNES version, though for the most part the text fits in just like the original.

All in all, since you get data you can learn in guides (though in the case of the game, at least here you know it's 100% accurate, except for the hints on how to get the espers), and just a couple minor translation fixes (really minor, just single words), and the game itself has some emulation issues and load times, the only reason to get it, at all, is the FMVs (or maybe the chance for extra save slots). I can actually see those FMVs on the disks when I put them in my PC. If you know of any special fan made players that can play back common formats of PS1 movie files, I could send them to you to look at, since I really don't think it's all that big a deal.

As it stands, I probably wouldn't even have the PS1 version except that it came bundled with Final Fantasy V, and since that's the ONLY (legal) way to get an english version of the game, and I had heard some good things, I got it. It was cheap, and getting FF6 was really more of an added bonus than the reason I got it. That said, while FF5 did turn out to be pretty fun, I've actually played the PS1 version of FF6 more than it :D. Also, I wouldn't have the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger if it wasn't for the fact that it came bundled with a fully restored and fully retranslated version of FF4 (and also I never got the SNES version of FF4). FF4 was different though, because they actually took the time to give that game flawless load times. Still some issues, but very small compaired to FF6, and it is overall a better game than the original SNES version...

Back on topic, yeah, the only reason to get FF6 for PS1 is that you get FF5 with it. I'd just keep the SNES version and print out a custom sticker with a lovely FF6 logo to paste over the old sticker. And, as for the FMVs, I could send the files to you, though I really don't know if you'll be able to watch them unless you have something I don't. (For that matter I could send you the really well done FMVs added to the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger if you want, and the other two Final Fantasies, heck probably origins if I can see the files).
They added a lot of changes to FFIV, namely, the dialog is a hundred times better, and as a result, the characters are far better developed. It's also harder than what we know as FF2, and there are tons of changes in the items and where they are found.

Yes though, 4 had a lot "added". Actually, it was restored to the original Japanese version. The US version was neutered for American audiences. After that, they actually made even MORE changes and released it in Japan as "easy type". Some say it was the other way around, that FF2 here was actually their Easy Type, but ours came first. Easy Type in Japan is actually even easier. Anyway, the PS1 game had all manner of stuff put back in and some difficulty boosted. However, considering all the moves the characters have access to in it, I'd say that in the end the enemies being more powerful doesn't really make it too much harder. At least, I didn't have much of a hard time, well except on two bosses (the first one being that horrid WALL, it just keeps COMING!). Basically, what it gives you is a lot more freedom in what you can do in battle, and considering it's the way it was originally intended, that's a good thing. Oh yeah, there's a couple FMVs added... And a run feature when you hold down the cancel button...
I loved Final Fantasy IV on the SNES, but getting it on the PS in the Chronicles made me love it even more. Everyone's dialogue is better (especially Palom & Porom, and Edge's flirting), and it does make the story and characters easier to understand.

DJ, you're not alone hating that battle with The Wall. Man, I HATE that battle. I've played FFIV many times, but I always die repeatedly against The Wall without fail and when I do win, it's with at least one character dead and the others hurt. That, and the part right before the final battle where just about every random encounter is a Behemoth. Ouch.

That game has only one flaw in my eyes and his name is Edward. "GET BACK HERE AND FIGHT, YOU WUSS!"

Edward, ya know in the original Japanese his name is Gilbert :D. Anyway, whatever you want to call him, he's the spooniest bard I've ever seen!
He wouldn't be so bad if you could heal him while he was off-screen pouting. When his turn rolls around, you can bring him back, but he always hides again before you can heal him. Thus, that's one less party member you have to attack, heal, attempt to run, ANYTHING. If he's not kept in top health, he's useless, and with his pitiful HP, that's not easy. And really, how long does he have to stay in Troia to heal, huh? Yang and Rydia all came back (albeit brainwashed and significantly older, respectively), but 'ol Eddie just sat in that bed and did no good for you at all. Come to think of it, I guess it really wouldn't have made a difference. Thanks for the harp against the Goblin dude who hated metal, but otherwise, you and your dead girlfriend can get out of one ofg my favorite games! You spoony bard!!!

So he did one useful thing. Yang, Cid, Palom & Porom, Rydia, Tellah, and Rosa all saved the party's lives too, but they actually were useful party members :D
You know, as much as I love FFVI, as I replay it, the more I realize how badly the story was constructed. I never realized just how many loose ends are totally left untouched.

Here's just a few for Celes alone... more to come
  • Celes is an Imperial General at the very beginning, but the very first time we see her, she's getting the crap knocked out of her for committing an act of treason. What is this act of treason? No one ever elaborates on this. No one ever tells just what she did to fall out of favor. Perhaps this is to make the player cast doubt upon her loyalties when she is told to betray you, but I think it was just sloppy, and there are plenty of opportunities later to elaborate, but none are taken.
  • Cyan, upon meeting her, recognizes her and tells that she was the Imperial General who 'torched Maranda'. Yet she boldly strides through that town without the slightest fear of being recognized by the people there, nor do any of them mention her by name.
  • What happened after she saves Locke and the others from within the Magitek Facility? The next we see of her, she's riding with General Leo and Shadow. Never is it mentioned where she's been or what she was doing in-between.
The only problem I really had with FFVI was that it had too many useless party members with little to no story behind them. It also would've been nice if we could've learned something, anything, about Gogo. All we know is that he's mysterious. Kudos on the Shadow and Relm storyline, but can we elaborate on some other characters please?

The game basically had two types of playable characters: the ones who play a big part in the story (Terra, Celes, Locke, Edgar, Sabin, Cyan, Setzer) and the ones who were just filler (Mog, Gau, Umaro, Gogo), and I guess you could place Shadow, Strago, and Relm under either category. (They don't play very active roles in the main plot, but their characters are elaborated on a good bit.) Then again, there was that part where Shadow defected to the Empire, and there's the fact that Strago has a magical connection to the Espers.

Okay, I've gotten deeper into that subject that I wanted to, so... on the topic of FFIV, yes, Edward/Gilbert is very annoying. He can stay bedridden for all I care. He wasn't a very good party member anyway. FuSoYa was awesome though... it's a shame he had to die... or go into hypersleep. I forgot what happened to him, it's been about three years since I played through the entire game. (I did begin a new file a few months ago though.) Personally, I think Cecil was cooler as a Dark Knight than as a Paladin, but that's just me. Kain is awesome though. I heard it's possible to get Yang in your final party in place of Kain though.

What's funny about FFIV is that you're left to think that so many of your party members are dead, when in fact only Tella(h) kicked the bucket. Palom and Porom are de-petrified, Yang turns out to be okay, Cid comes back alive even though we clearly watched him explode... yuuuup.
I've heard about how FFIV kills off most of the party, but not that they then come back... Final Fantasy Adventure killed off almost all the characters too, but there they don't come back. :)
Yeah, as Geno said, only one character (Tellah) really died. Everyone else left the party leaving you thinking they did.

Palom and Porom "died" when the party was locked in a room with the walls caving in. They stood on opposite sides of the room and turned themselves into stone, stopping the walls.

Yang "died" in the underworld when he sacrificed himself to destroy the Super Cannon that was attacking the dwarves. How he survived that massve explosion, I'll never know.

Cid "died" when he JUMPED OFF THE AIRSHIP WITH A BOMB AND EXPLODED. He should've been even deader than Yang.

It was kind of weird when EVERYONE ended up coming back in the end. After Yang and cid, I was waiting for Tellah to come out too. Although you did see him one last time right before fighting Zeromus.
And my question is, do they survive in all versions of the game, or was that added in like the easy mode... because yeah, those don't sound like survivable incidents...
To the best of my knowledge, they live in all versions of the game. I played on the original SNES and on the PS, and they all lived (except Tellah) in both versions. Can't say what happened to everyone in Japan. Besides, in Cid's case, you find him later and he helps you upgrade your airship. Intrepid players can find Yang in a hidden cave in the underworld, where he gives you a useful hidden summon, Sylph, which is like a souped up Drain for the whole party.
I guess they didn't REALLY want to kill them off or something... odd, though.

Killing off major characters... it happens sometimes in games. Not very often, though. Maybe more often in Japanese games, at least in the past... like with anime, they seem to like to kill off characters or something... :) (PC RPGs probably would, but they usually have the party as a more user-defined group, so killing off party members wouldn't work...)
Does the name Aeris ring any bells, ABF?
Yes, I've heard about that plenty of times... major character gets killed (kinda?). That was one character in a game, and it made a big impact... now, the badguys of course always get killed, and RPGs almost always have some random towns getting wiped out or blown up, but story-important characters dying? Rarer. And when it happens it's probably more likely that it'd be a single event (like FFVII), as opposed to the 'lets kill off a bunch of them!' that you find in FFIV or FFA...
In the SNES US one, from what I've read, they actually sugar coated the supposed death scenes, like Cid jumping off the airship, so you didn't temporarilly think he died even. PS1 is a pretty accurate translation, so yes they were supposed to come back. How did Cid and Yang survive? They are in a Japanese action story! In Japanese action, all humans are capable of becoming as strong as Super Man if they just "train" (apparently this is also true in Teen Titans, Robin can now apparently survive nuclear explosions and kick a cement giant's arse with nothing mroe than brute strength).

Aeris, or Aerith in the original Japanese (learned that because I had to know why on Earth she's called Aerith in Kingdom Hearts), is pretty cool.

And yeah Weltall, there are lots of loose ends. Some of it may be translation, but not all of it. They don't go into ALL details of the story, but that's okay because I can more or less imagine what happened with Celes. Except, yes they really should have had some sort of reaction when Celes came to Maranda. Oh well, there's a lot of continuity issues when it came to actually programming NPCs to recognize individual characters. So, too often they don't do that. You end up with some guy talking about Celes having the "spitting image" of big man Sabin.

However, a Final Fantasy 6-2 game would be nice, filling in some of the character's past, but also seeing exactly how the people manage to live their lives in this new magicless world. Well, this is all assuming they don't end up screwing us over and making Terra a pop sensation.

I want to see Terra and either Cecil or Kain show up in the next Kingdom Hearts :D.

Oh yeah, about some characters having no real story. That's okay. They basically were there to fill in roles as far as gameplay, not story. Some of them really don't need story anyway. I don't WANT my moogle friend to have much of a deep story. He's fine as a cartoon character more or less. Gau DID have a story, but wow did that have a big let down... Turns out his dad is a blithering crazy person... There was something there, then the crazy guy opens his mouth... Oh well, senility aside, at least Gau managed it well.

Gogo... He's just there as a cameo from the last game, and there's nothing there to expand on. In fact in the Japanese version the question of his gender doesn't come up in his description. He's just another guy for your party with a cool ability, and also everyone ELSE'S abilities :D.

The important thing is the characters they did focus on had some pretty nice development.

The World of Balance had the better storyline progression of the two worlds by the way... The world of ruin developed the invidivual character stories pretty well, this is true, but they sort of lost focus... Celes starts out in such a way that you think she'll be the main character of this new shift in the storyline. That would be cool, but they don't do much of a job really expanding on that. After Edgar, she doesn't play much of a role... Really, lots of scenarios all over the world involving her, and some flashbacks, and some scenes with her talking to Terra, those would have been nice. As it is, the world of ruin lacks a central character to tie it all together very well... Well, that's not really true. Kefka does that :D. Okay that might have been the point, showing exactly how Kefka has effected everyone and all, but it's hard to read the sort of person Kefka is when there's no sort of clues to his personality aside from the destruction... oh right... well okay then...

... in Teen Titans, at least the others are superhuman, but Robin? Nope. He just does impossible stuff.

Magicless, that's the problem... how many RPGs don't have magic? Yeah, two or three. The only two I can think of offhand are the two Fallout games... and those are post-apocalyptic games with mutants (you aren't one, but they're around). :)
Oh don't worry, they would end up coming up with a new battle system and all :D. It would certainly involve a lot of stuff that looks and acts just LIKE magic, but... it wouldn't be :D.
