Tee hee! I'm so clever with my titles, aren't I?

...

Anyhow... check out ign's new screens and movies of this crappy-looking game. I'm sure it'll be fun, but it looks like the N64 game, damnit! Here are some screens:

AAAGGHH!!! Those textures! That aliasing! Those models!!

I'm still convinced that this is an N64 game and Nintendo doesn't even realize it. How else can it look this bad?
Well, they did make Animal Crossing... Then again, that was a port of a 64 game. I have one guess here. They have yet to get around to doing much graphically. With that in mind, they can always drop off the radar for several months until they have some decent screens.
But... those graphics are great! It looks just like 1080 2 should...

Um, if it was on the N64, that is...
The odd thing is that this is being developed by NST, the talented kids that made the gorgeous Wave Race Blue Storm.
It does look a lot better in motion (that trailer) than in those still pictures... better than an N64 game. But still, its not as good as Wave Race Blue Storm's graphics... we'll see how it ends up.
Well, if the rumors are true that it's not coming out until September, then they have a lot of time to pretty it up. And I do agree that the game looks a lot better in motion. The trailer on the OoT disc was pretty cool.
Blue Storm's graphics really aren't anything special. Except the pretty water effects, and the constant framerate (in 4player split screen, no less)

I'll hold out for SSX2.

Umm... that's what makes it so impressive-looking.
Yeah... with all that beautiful water, you usually don't notice the much lower detailed trackside graphics...
The water is still impressive by today's standards. All of that reflecting, refracting, and the awesome weather effects.
I think that that's what I just said...
The water was good, but not enough to cover up everything else. :)
It's not like the backgrounds were crappy or anything. They just didn't stand up to the great water effects. I bet you're going to say that Splashdown looks better, right? Please. The water is always flat (meaning that there aren't any cool waves as in Blue Storm) and it only reflects the surface, but does not refract anything in the water.
wtf, Blue Storm's graphics are fucking beautiful! The models are seemless as are the boats themselves and then you have beautiful interactive environments as well. So the elephants were made out of grey boxes and tubes, who cares??? LOOK at that spanish chick's ass!!!

Everything in Blue Strom is beautiful except a few of the 'easter egg' models which you only see if you're a foot away. Tell me the sharks and sea turtles and dolphins looked like shit, tell me the rain effects and the lightning looked like shit, tell me that huh?? yeah, that's what I thought. You fucking rosey assed, pig faced, koala kissing mother fucker. They made Kangaroo Jack because of you.

AHAHAHAHA!! That's not funny. The idea of that movie makes me cry. Why, why is this nation so dumb?

I agree with OB1. Those graphics are NOT up to par.
Oh yeah those screen shots look like krap. But i'll go out on a limb and say that those are from an earlier build of the game. I hope that anyway.
Unless it's from a really early build (like say, back when it was an N64 game) I'm seriously dissapointed.
Well IGN said that the game was finished, so I guess you could assume the trailer of the game was from the finished version.

And it doesn't look THAT bad. The falling logs (bridge) and the avalanche were both very impressive.

And I'm not going to claim that Splashdown looks better than WaveRace. But it is comparable.
at least it's not cell shaded chibi style...

I'M ONLY KIDDING!!!!!!

seriously, these look rather crap, although i feel like this game's been having problems from the start. wasn't it originally being developed by the guy who made the original 1080? anyway, i'd expect, given NST's graphical record, nd the GC's graphical abilities, i'd expect the game to look much much better by the time it's released. and isn't it supposed to have realistic fabric physycs? with coats and snow pants blowing in the wind? that should be pretty...once the rest of the graphics get ironed out.

one thing i hope they carry over is the character selection screen, with the verious characters hanging out in the lodge...and i hope they have the big british guy and i hope that when you pick him he says "yo" in that flat, unenthused voice he did in the N64 version. i really liked that character select screen, it had personality.

oh, and blue storm's water is incredible, although, weather/wave effects aside, mario sunshine has it beat.

... dude... the game looks like ass. At least in those screens it does. I saw the video and it looks a little better, but not a whole lot better. Slightly less stinky dog poo still smells like dog poo.
Reason the pics look so bad: Bad screen caps.

I watched part of the video and looks a lot better than any of those screenshots. It's not the best looking game I've seen, but it isn't horrible either.
But did you see the 640X480 video? It looks better, but that's not saying much.
I just watched it for the second time now. Still ugly as hell. I really hope they fix that aliasing problem.
IGN doesn't get it either...

Hi IGN,
I love GameCube and Nintendo, because I know they publish quality games. So please tell me why Wario World and 1080 Avalanche look like crap in those two previews you just put up. Thanks.
Graham

Matt responds: I wish I had an answer for you, but we're still trying to figure that one out. My guess is that is has something to do with a conspiracy involving aliens. But I can't prove it.

By "that", I was referring to the screenshots.

And the avalanche was impressive, if only we coulda seen more of it.
If they fix the aliasing and texture problems, it could be a good-looking game.
It looks like an N64 game in the screenshots (like Excitebike 64-quality but a little better), but the movies, for some reason, look a lot better... still, it can hardly be said that its pushing the Cube in any way that I can see.

I REALLY hope that they improve on those graphics quite a bit before release or it'll be disapointing... in sales, at least.
The aliasing is PSX bad, though. I don't get it.
Yeah... some developers aren't that good with graphics, but NST made Wave Race Blue Storm, so this is pretty odd.
There is absolutely no reason why a Gamecube game shouldn't have anti-aliasing enabled. Hell there's no reason why a Nintendo 64 game shouldn't have AA enabled.
So is there any possible explanation for why the graphics look like that? Especially when their last game was Wave Rave Blue Storm? I sure can't think of one...

Oh, and OB1... get back on MSN! Why did you leave?
i had to do stuff
http://www.nintendo.com/e32k3/games/nint...4_feat.jsp

Watch the movie from E3 there! WOW has this game improved!
Whoa. Much, much, nicer looking.
Yes. Looking at those old screens and video then the new stuff... its like night and day...
Hmm, looks better!
It now looks like a solid current-gen game... :)
Yeah, the graphics have definitely taken a turn for the better. All the impressions I've read on 1080 have been positive with reservations. Some people note some pop-up, others note issues with the controls, but they all recognize that the game has improved leaps and bounds from the Cube Club showing. I loved 1080 for N64, so this makes me :)
