Quote:Not everyone has to wait around to hear details of Microsoft’s sexy new Xbox 360—and now, thanks to Kotaku, neither do you. An exclusive Kotaku source has revealed a bevy of facts about the next-generation console set to rock the Xbox world.

The original Xbox was a manly chunk of square black-and-green plastic meant to win over a generation of hardcore male gamers. The Xbox 360° will be about winning over gamers of all persuasions, with a customizable look and a kindler, gentler Circle of Light marketing campaign.

Our inside source says that the console is a sleek silver device worthy of countertop display, and features an inhaled design that turns the harsh angles of the original Xbox into sweeps and curves. The device will also be able to stand upright or on it’s side, much like the Playstation 2. The side of the 360° is dominated by an oversized, back-lit power button called the ring of light, and the rest of the case can be customized with colorful designer face plates that pop on and off. The 360°s dashboard will also be customizable, making each console a thing totally unique to its owner.

Some of the inner workings of the 360° have also been confirmed. The device will feature high definition audio and video and wireless controllers, and will come in two flavors—one with a hard drive and one without. The biggest shock is that while Microsoft wants to make their 360° backwards compatible, they haven’t yet been able to pull it off.

“They’re working on it,” said our source.

Retarded name (that's been rumored for months), but I like the idea of it being lighter colored and slimmer. The whole ring of light thing sounds retarded though.
Is there actually any new information there though? Mostly seems to be old rumors...
The customizing thing, the logo...
You know what's funny?

360 degrees = one revolution. And with all of those Nintendo+MS console rumors from the past year or so...

Even though I don't believe it myself, there's a pretty decent amount of evidence to convince someone that Nintendo and Microsoft are making a joint console together. They're both using the same hardware partners, we've heard nothing about the Revolution from from anyone but Nintendo (while we've heard tons of developers talk about the PS3 and XB2 [though that's hardly a surprise to Nintendo fans]), and the rumored XB2 name is eerily similar to Nintendo's next system.

But I'm 99.9% certain that this isn't the case. For one thing the Revolution is supposed to be very different from today's consoles, and we all know that the XB2 is just going to be an extention, and evolution of the current console model. Though if it's just a matter of a radical controller, they could bundle two different kinds in one box...

Nah.

Erm
I know! It sounds like something NCL would say. On one of their more gay days. Like, really gay.

Those are actually valid points...but the whole idea is so far-fetched...no way. I can see your point, and I'm sure others may see it too, but that's pretty out there.

Sure would be cool though...
Would it? I think that'd be terrible, unless Nintendo were given complete hardware and software control and freedom.

If both companies created a joint system and developed all of their exclusives for it, it'd blow Sony clear off the radar. That is, if Microsoft doesn't try to take the whole thing over. Thing is, that's like telling an old woman not to go to church bingo. There's just no stopping them.
I'd rather see them side with Sony than Microsoft. In fact I think one single console would be great.
Microsoft would be more likely to attempt a hostile takeover of Nintendo than Sony would.
True. MS has more money...
