Just 6 more days!!! Woo!!!

Where's the excitement here?? Am I the only one here who's dying to play this game?! Come on, people, wake up!
Wooo-hooo!!

I'd be more excited if my room-mate would get his god damned TV fixed... I can't play much of any GameCube nowadays. :(
Maybe you shouldn't be relying on your roommate's tv! :p
I stole these pics from the GA boards, and the Echoes box looks pretty damn cool when it's all shiny and stuff! I didn't care for the box art before, but I look forward to its glitteryness.

And the disc looks silver! Alright!

Too many awesome things are coming out all at once!!
Too many awesome things are coming out all at once!!
So much so that you needed to post that twice!!
I know!

It's a bit hard to say when I'll be able to get MP2, I could be next weekend, but considering the DS also comes out around the same time it's a bit hard to say for sure. Anyway, I can't for MP2 to come out so that I can, someday, play it!
Metroid Echoes is going to be a lot better than playing an updated version of Mario 64. :p
Cool silvery stuff, but still just decent box art...
Make one then why don't you!

I did, with ICO. The US box art was just so terrible that I had to make a copy of the Japanese box art.
Quote:Metroid Echoes is going to be a lot better than playing an updated version of Mario 64.

Actually, the only thing I'm spending actual money on is Feel the Magic, the DS and Mario 64 are being bought with Blockbuster store credit.
... So you think XX\XY is going to be better than Echoes?
It'll be more unique anyway...
Erm

It's a Wario Ware rip-off.

That's cool!-- but it is a WW rip-off.

Not that I don't mind! I still want the game.
WW ripoff yes, but unique because of the use of the touchscreen (and coming out before WWDS)...
Feel the Magic = $30

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes = $50

And anyway, I can wait a week or so for MP2, but I NEED DS game as soon as possible.
Dunno

I'd much rather have Prime 2 at launch than a DS at launch. I mean new hardware is great, but it's the software that matters the most.
Quote:I mean new hardware is great, but it's the software that matters the most.

And that's why I'm getting Feel the Magic!

...

...

...

Actually, It's fairly likely that I'll get both next week.
XX\XY (easier to type than Feel The Magic :D ) isn't anywhere near as good as Metroid though...
That's why I'm getting both.
But you're getting the DS first...

Seriously, it's a good review... read it.
I was watching G4/TechTV the other day [just flipping through the channels, I swear] and they had a countdown of the best console graphics and MP1 beat out Halo for the top spot. Kind of neat, I thought.

I know, the reviewer raves about how awesome the game is and how there's nothing like it on the cube or any other system for that matter, yet he gives it a slightly-less-than-deserving score. Weird.

That's why I think scores should be obliterated from all reviews.

That is surprising considering how many morons work for that station. :D Ever seen that show that that Tallarico guy? He makes some cool video game music but has the absolute worse taste in games I've ever seen before.

what...
The score is partly the fault of Gamespot's review system. The reviewers cannot choose the score the game gets. Remember, it's a average of the sub-categories... and look at those -- 9 for gameplay is appropriate given the poor multiplay, 9 for graphics is okay, 8 for sound and value... okay, maybe a bit low but justifyable... and then a 10 for the tilt (to adjust the score closer to where the reviewer wants it). I bet that with a more open scoring system Gamespot's review scores would be more accurate, but as it is their scoring system is their one relative flaw.

Though it's still better than something stupid like how Gamespy now just uses a straight 10-point scale... we need more differentiation than that...
Quote:The reviewers cannot choose the score the game gets. Remember, it's a average of the sub-categories

Really? That's dumb.

Quote:That is surprising considering how many morons work for that station.

According to them it was voted on by the viewers, not that I expected the average G4 viewer to be anymore intelligent than the people that work there.

Quote:Ever seen that show that that Tallarico guy? He makes some cool video game music but has the absolute worse taste in games I've ever seen before.

Is that the show where the two guys review about 3 or 4 games? Then, yes, he is. He raves about how awesome the latest wrestling game is and how realistic it is and how it has each wrestler's unique moves, but bashes really small things in cool games like Twin Snakes.
I played a wrestling game once. Supposedly a "really good" one. Took about two minuites to get utterly bored and definitely know that I dislike them all. Stupid games...

Um, anyway...

Quote:Really? That's dumb.

I'd prefer a scoring system like IGN where the reviewer chooses the final score. Gamespot has better reviews overall, but it doesn't allow quite as much expression of the reviewer's exact opinion on the game so an independant overall score is better.

On that note, the Gamespot system is what the TC homepage uses because that was the best choice that the free system Weltall found had... (oh yeah and last week he gave me access to it so I altered and added my reviews from the old TC, plus an updated Netstorm review and a Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith review).

I used to play some wrestling games that one of my friends had and they were fun to play if you had someone to play against, but I never liked them enough to purchase any of my own. Also, that was back when I thought that wrestling was the coolest thing on television. I've since grown out of that phase, though.
They gave Prime 2 an 8 for value and sound? What a complete moron.

And yeah that Tallarico guy is a fool. He literally hates everything good and loves everything bad.
Value goes down because of poor multiplay, I'd expect... sound I don't know, they don't talk much about sound in the review.
That's ridiculous. The single-player mode is just as good if not better than the sp in Prime 1, so the added, optional mutliplayer mode should not bring it down. That's like giving the steak you usually love a bad review because there's an optional onion ring that you hate on the side. But the steak's the same, and you don't have to touch the onion ring!
No, I'd say it makes sense... if something is there that is a problem you mark the game down for it in some fashion.

Oh, and the score probably also reflects how this game is so similar to the first game...
Quote:Oh, and the score probably also reflects how this game is so similar to the first game...

Then why did Halo 2 get a value of 9?

Quote:No, I'd say it makes sense... if something is there that is a problem you mark the game down for it in some fashion.

Again, I'll point to Halo 2. It has a boring singleplayer mode and a questionable storyline, and yet they still lavished it with overly high scores.
"Good multiplay adds value" is probably their train of thought.
The single-player in Halo 2 is supposed to be crappy like the first one's, yet it got great reviews because of the mutli. You know this fact yet you still think that Metroid should be marked down for it's less-than-stellar multiplayer mode even though it's single-player is fantastic?

How incredibly hypocritical.
I said that that was their line of thought, not that I completely agree with it... in my opinion, the single player should account for the majority of the score. :)
It should account for the entire score if it's good enough to be by itself. The multiplayer is a bonus that you don't have to touch.
But review scores are supposed to represent ALL aspects of the game, not just one. On that regard, Halo 2 was probably scored too high.
So should a Mario collection score lower if it were to include the lesser Gameboy Mario games? Let's say that you have two Mario collections: they're identical to each other except for the fact that one of them contains the crappier GB Mario games. Should the overall score be lowered because of them? Does it mean nothing that if you stripped away the added bonuses that were the cause of the lowered scores that they would contain the same amount of quality content?

Your reasoning is highly flawed.
OB1, there is no way to have a review be totally objective... your opinion will always be a part of it. So as to which way you go on that, probably a big part depends on if you really like the game or not so much, overall...
I haven't really played enough of Halo 2 to give it a definite score just yet, but unless there's some big change I'd probably have to give it a high 8 or possibly a low 9. It depends on how much I enjoy the co-op and how bad the story really is.

His opinion of the game was very high, but his numbers were off. They're inconsistent and contradictory!
