Yay!

Quote:October 07, 2004 - Square Enix revealed today that Final Fantasy III will be coming to the Nintendo DS system. While little has been revealed on the game, it's known that it will feature dual screen and touch panel support. The touch panel will come into play with how you collect crystals.

Release information and further specific details will have to wait for a future update from the company.
I've already got FF6 on the SNES and the PSX.

...

Are you sure it's not actually Final Fantasy 3? The real one? And not FF6?
I heard about this, it's NOT FF6, it's FF3, the REAL FF3.
Oh really? Cool, I thought they just meant... oh never mind. Still great news!
It's Square's own fault if people get confused.

Since this is the real FF3, I think I will be getting it.
Yes, Square screwed up. BUT, if you make this mistake NOW, then it's kinda YOU that's to blame :D.

Watch this movie. Sorry, you will have to put up with a Mortal Kombat commercial. After that, you'll see the teaser for the game. It's in Japan (where they never messed with the names), and it's got the crystal (FF6 was the first FF to not feature the elemental crystals), so it's pretty obvious it's the true FF3.

So, in other words, YAY! We FINALLY get to jam with the onion kids! I want to know why they are called the onion kids!
Any graphical updates?
Here's what I wanna know. Considering it's on DS, it's fairly clear what their intentions are (and also considering they remade 1 and 2 instead of porting them, and did that THREE TIMES). But, will the gameplay be intact? With the Dawn of Souls game, they are going further than with the Origins remake. Instead of just graphics and sound, and making a lot of the game interaction much smoother, they are going and changing a lot of the gameplay. That is, the whole magic system will be changed.

So, are they doing that with this? I hope not. I mean, the graphic and sound updates will be nice (they might even pack in some FMVs, they managed it with Chain of Memories for GBA anyway), but we never got the chance to play this game's original gameplay. If they do revise it completely, I hope they include an "original mode" where the gameplay is exactly like the original. Really, all remakes should include an original mode. Metroid Zero Mission for example did good when it included the original game.
I've just thought of how they might use the touch screen in a game like this.

One, they could have all the game menus, which you would normally have to pause the game to manage, right there on the touch screen where you would just do all your equiping on the fly.

Two, the entire game would be touch controlled. Click to move, click on an enemy to target it, click an item to select it, click an object to examine/talk/do, drag n drop menus for equipping and managing items, basically make everything much easier to manage. Since it's an RPG after all, this wouldn't hurt anything, just make it a lot easier to use, and the controls would be right there if you want to go manual. Either way, I'm sure they'll keep it 2D, which is good since nice 2D art is always great.

I like Two, but that basically leaves the top screen for... nothing. I'd rather have numbers appear above whatever character they are affecting (HP/MP Gain/Loss) than in some status bar. That makes things more intuitive. But, lots of data could still be put up there I think. Instead of showing all your character stats in the playing window, put it out of the way. HP/MP, who's turn, even stuff normall unseen in battles in these games like equipment, could all be put on the top screen, since none of that can be interacted with during battles anyway. Maybe during conversations all the text could appear up there too. It would clear up room for showing cutscenes without worrying about text windows blocking anything if they did it that way.
It's about damn time they released the real FF3. No more downloading cheap translations!
Touch controls would be great for RPGs... like mice with PC ones. :)
I bizarro world!
