Quote:REDMOND, Wash.--Feb. 6, 2003--Beginning February 9, some of the best video games of the current Nintendo generation will be more affordable than ever.

With the purchase of a Nintendo GameCube™ system, at a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $149.95, Nintendo of America Inc. is offering consumers their choice of one of the following hit games for free -- Metroid® Prime (2002 Game of the Year*), Star Fox® Adventures, Mario Party® 4 or Capcom's Resident Evil® 0 -- at participating retailers.

In addition, the Super Mario™ Sunshine Bundle Pak, which includes a copy of the Super Mario™ Sunshine game, Nintendo GameCube system and Memory Card 59, which was previously $189.95, will be priced at $159.95.

Finally, continuing its prestigious "Player's Choice" program, the MSRP for Luigi's Mansion™, Pikmin™, Super Smash Bros.® Melee, and other classic Nintendo GameCube titles, originally priced at $49.95, will drop to $29.95.

"These three offers are about giving players what they want -- great entertainment at a great value," says George Harrison, senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications, Nintendo of America Inc. "For less than $150, players will find a world of quality only available with Nintendo."

This should do some good for sales of GC, but it really should have been implemted for last year's holiday season. Those are some really good deals, though.

Planet Gamecube
The Mario bundle is a great deal as is the "Buy a cube and get a free game" deal, but their Player's Choice titles are too expensive. Both the PS2 and X-Box Greatest Hits titles are $20 each, and yet again Nintendo decides that competing is a silly thing so they ask for $10 more for their GH titles.
Whoa, that's an awesome deal. I hope it boosts GC sales... too bad they didn't enforce this near the holiday season.

I think that $29.99 is a good deal for those games. Super Smash Brothers for that amount is great compared to N64, where one can find Banjo-Kazooie for that amount USED. Compared to PS2, though, I guess its a little disappointing, but at least its a start. PS2 has been out longer, anyways. How long did it take Sony to knock down the prices?
Let me ask you something.

Which systems are competiting with the Gamecube? The Nintendo 64? Or the PS2 and X-Box? Hmmm.. perhaps they should match the prices of the two competitors' software,?

But it's still better than the $50 they're all going for now.
*sigh*

Am I the only one here that sees Nintendo's foolishness? When people go to Best Buy or wherever and look at the games section they're going to see a bunch of $20 PS2 and X-Box "greatest hits" titles and then $30 Gamecube GH titles. Which ones are they going to choose? This is just another example of Nintendo's unwillingness to aggressively compete with Sony and Microsoft.
I agree with OB1 completely. I know Nintendo isn't as big as MS or Sony financially, but they are way too freakin conservative. This is so sad of them... I own four PS2 games and three of them I bought only when they hit the GH line. Im still waiting for FFX to drop down to $20.
Same here. There aren't too many games that I'd be willing to fork over $50 for, so that's why I love the GH line.

And Nintendo has a crapload of money. They're just too.. I dunno. Out of it.
Nintendo is doing its thinking with it's wallet and no it's brain. And its not even nintendo doing the thinking, it's their accountant's wallet doing the thinking.

Hey, $30 is cheap for Nintendo!
Yes well they're not competing with their own past.
Yes you made your point! We KNOW Nintendo has a bit more to go, but we are saying that this is a good start. Why can't you look on the bright side man?
Because I'm so annoyed with the company. Do they enjoy staying in third place??
From what I've seen, I see no evidence they care what place they are in.

If they did, they'd do some things that would help sales. They haven't been doing that. Not to any extent that matters anyway...
Even in third place Nintendo is making tons more money than MS is making in second. In fact MS lost over 300 million last quarter.
MS is in it for the long run. It doesn't matter how much money they're losing right now. They realize this so that's why they're competing so aggressively with Sony and Nintendo. And they're beating Nintendo!
Eeewww... check out the box art design for the Player's Choice line-up:

That's ugly as hell... but I guess it could be worse.
And then here comes Microsoft, pretty much flipping the bird to Nintendo and saying "Ha ha you stupid!!" by announcing 16 Platinum Series titles for a great price of $20 each. Compare that to Nintendo's whopping 3 GH Titles for $30 each.

Oh and the X-Box Platinum Series boxes look a heck of a lot cooler than the stupid-ass Gamecube GH boxes.

The Cube ones aren't AWFUL, but aren't that great... the gold border doesn't exactly look good. Why not just the gold 'Players Choice' tag like the GB or N64 ones did...

As for that X-Box type, yeah that silver border does look nice.
Gold border? That's yellow...
Wow, that yellow border almost looks worse than the biggest hit green borders on PS1's best selling games. I haven't seen the biggest hit art for PS2 games, could someone put that up?

You know, this is a real shame. Although I hated Nintendo's box art during the N64 days, I loved that instead of that ugly green thing Sony had on best selling PS1 games, Nintendo had a somewhat decent solution with changing the seal of approval to a golden ribbon. I expected them to do the same here, but apparently that wasn't in yo face enough. This yellow boarder just totally ruins the improvements they made with their "GCN game" logo on the box art. On the other hand, MS's box art, which WAS the worst looking this gen with that sickly green on black and that ugly yellow "only on xbox" gen x looking stamp now has a pretty decent looking silver and green logo thing going. It actually looks kinda neat.

Anyway, Nintendo really should have just done something simple and clean. They could have just changed it from black to silver.
The yellow border doesn't go around the whole box, only the top. If you look closely at your pic you'll notice that where the cases overlap there is no yellow border.
Right. The yellow is just on the top. But that's not the final design.

And here's what the PS2 GH box looks like. It also makes the spine red. I like it more than the regular box art:

Hmm, nothing too special. Looks decent. That's more than I can say for that yellow border though (even if it is just on the top). I actually still prefer the black version of the PS2 case though. Oh well... Anyway, if MS is also going to make their greatest hits $20, then I'm sure Nintendo will follow and drop $10 more.
The black bar is so plain.
Nice sig, OB1. I love Memento.
Thanks, I also love the movie. And Jackie Chan. :D
Gold, yellow, whatever... :)

That red PS2 box is awful... worse than the standard PS2 box or the NGC Players choice...

I wish Nintendo would just use the gold ribbon like N64 and before... but if they MUST use a bar, they better make it relatively small... and keep the spine normal colored...
Have you seen any of the PS2 GH cases in person? It's a lot cooler looking than the regular cases. Now that's a fact!
