Aug. 6 release. Demo coming sometime, they're starting on it now that the main game is done. The game's been in development for something like five years so it's taken a while, but it does look good...

On a related note, no news of DNF. It's going to be one of the best games of the 1998 holiday season!
It's about time.
The only problems with Doom 3 are the 4-player multiplayer and the fact that they've been saying that the single player game won't be super long... but if it matches the quality level they've promised, it'll still be a very good single player game. The question is how much people will complain about the multiplayer.
It's been getting good reviews so far.
Bah, Doom 3 was only good for it's graphical prowess which has since been surprassed by several different games. ID knows nothing and cares nothing for good gameplay so I'm definitely not getting it. Most overrated games ever, IMO.
Doom 3 was only good for graphics? You've played it? :)

As for reviews, I haven't seen any. It hasn't shipped yet, so I wouldn't expect them for a little while...
PC Gamer gave it a 94.
That is a very good review... it's hard to get a score much above 90% from them and when it is you almost always know it's good, imo.

DJ, wrong thread. We're discussing Doom 3 in the Dorks vs IGN thread, not the Doom 3 thread! What a silly idea, discussing Doom in the Doom thread...
That makes about as much sense as a medical frigate in a space battle!!

I have the leaked pre-alpha and it's only okay.
I wouldn't base a final game on a leaked pre-alpha, unless said pre-alpha was meant for public consumption...
I wouldn't base Metroid Prime off it's pre-alpha....wait, what are we talking about?
Well the pre-alpha that I have is a pretty good indicator of the final version of the game as just about all of the graphics and gameplay are indentical to the final version. It's just a few small sections.
I would expect that an alpha would not be optimized and would get even worse preformance than the full game... and this game requires serious power... yes, it gives you a taste of the game. But since it wasn't meant to be publicly released and I'm sure that it was running on a very powerful system (and was optimized just for that system), it's not a great way to see how the game will run. Or for all the details of the gameplay, that's an old alpha leak! I'd wait for the demo, which is upcoming. :)
Well of course the final version will run better on my pc than the leaked pre-alpha, but even then it ran pretty nicely on my setup. ID finished most of the gameplay stuff a long time ago so it's not going to play much differently from the E3 demo (which is what I have).
I thought that that had two semi-finished missions or something... are they really full levels or just techdemos for showing off what the engine can do? I never downloaded the thing... :)
They're sections of levels with the cool stuff they showed at E3 2003.
I got Doom 3 and while it's not bad, I just wanted to post a picture of the offensive models they have for Asian people in the game. Their faces are emaciated and they all have beedy little eyes and enormous, flat noses. The same thing goes for black people in the game. Take a look for yourself:

You attack it so much and yet you bought it at launch? Umm... mixed messages here... :)
Who said I bought it? ;)
