Its the word "black" in spannish .

I remeber in mexico at their crappy Wal'Mart they had called the Men in black dvd " Hombres en negro" with Sr Smith and Sr Jones.

Seeing Shrek in portugeese now that is cool!
No one ever said negro was bad. It's nigger that offends black people.
If you call them negroes they look at you funny.
Quote:If you call them negroes they look at you funny.

Why are you going around calling them negros?
Grand Mother still calls them negros, I woudlnt call any of my Black freinds negros, Though some of them call each other Nigger or Niggah.

I probaily only called a black person a Negro once ever , She was not very enthusiatic about it.
Negro is one of the derogatory terms white people used to use for black people. Nigger is still the worst of them all, but negro isn't that great either. Do yourself a favor and refer to them with neither word.
What are the poor mexicans gonna call them then?Isnt there a national american "negro" association in the U.S? Somthing like that were they put the "N" for negro in the initials?

I dont call them negros , I call them blacks.

But really some of them are offended if you call them "Blacks" some dont like even being called "Colored". The people who use the word nigger more frequiently then anyone else is african americans. When I was in barbados the waiter at restaurant kept trying to tell the black american tourist that their food was coming , But they got so impatient they grabed him by the throat then called the waiter a "Nigger" said to him " get your stupid ass in the kitchen and tell them I want my food now and I want it now"!Made a big scene in the restaurant and embarrased the poor waiter and they called the bouncers to come and through out the black american who grabed the waiter by the neck.

The caribean is mostly all Blacks and they dont ever use the word Nigger or Niggah like in the states.
How about trying their NAME instead of calling someone by their race, or any other sort of thing like that?
I never call them black guy! I say hey you!

That negro thing was a joke with one of my black freinds. He respounded by calling me white trash . But all joking neither of us was serious!
That's not what you said earlier, when you said you offended someone by calling them negro!

Ya know, you sure change your stories quick sometimes...
She didnt like it , But she knew I was joking as she laughed a few minutes later and said I'll call it even by calling you white trash .
Which begs the question, WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS THREAD IF YOU KNEW EXACTLY WHY IT WAS OFFENSIVE?

But Negro literally means 'black'.

I think they should stop referring to themselves as niggers and negros if they honestly expect everyone else to stop.
Some Blacks are not offended by it , Like I said there is alot of black organizations that use the word "negro" in their name.

Negro is not a baned word on american network television ,I remeber when the movie Rush hour was on TV on Abc or somthing they edited out the Nigger word and put Negro instead.

The real question is weither Negro is a derogatory or just a name like Black or Colored. Some being offended by it does not mean it is a derogatory some people think being called a Yank or Canuck is offensive mainly since the words are used frequiently to make fun of americans or canadians I think Negro is no different. It is just a ok name used by alot of people in a bad way.

Since in spannish the word Black is Negro. If it was a true derogatory then why make millions of copies of DVDs of Men in black called Hombres en negro to hispanic countries?
Black people will look at you funny if you say that because it's such an ancient term, racist or not. It's like going up to someone and saying "what yer doin' there, colored folk?" or "them there are orientals". No one says that anymore.
Yet they say it amongst themselves. It must really not bother them as much as they claim it does.
Well there's a big difference between calling yourself a fatty and hearing someone else call you that, you know what I mean?
There's a difference between calling myself a fatty and another fatty calling me a fatty, too.
If it's a stranger, yeah. But if it's a fellow fatty buddy who you feel comfortable calling each other fatty with, then it's okay.
I never thought so.

Plus, the word 'nigger' carries with it a much larger degree of malice than 'fatty' does. If they want to use it among themselves, they're okay with it, fine. But don't call it a 'hate crime' when other people use it too.
It's only racist if a white person says it!
What if your half white and half black?

Any neagotive comment given at a black man by a white man is automatically racist. Any neagotive comment given at a white from a black man is perfectly ok and even encouraged.
It's a crazy, mixed-up society we live in.

When you were fat you never joked around about it with other people?
I joked about it, sure. But I never made a habit of going "Hey Fatty" to anyone, even if they knew I was joking. I could joke about it to fat or slim people, if I liked them, I could joke with either. Yet, it could hurt even coming from another fat person. It's not nice, no matter what.

And again, a white person using the word "nigger" can have his entire life destroyed. "Fatty" just doesn't carry that kind of weight (hu hu hu). "Nigger" is made out to be a terrible word, the worst racial slur there is, yet black people toss it around carelessly.

It's one of the worst double-standards in American society.
They shouldn't be saying it either.
I get iritated when white wiggers use the word Niggah at each other.Sure they think their black but you make yourself look retarded using it.

I have seen blacks use Nigger to insult each other , Not joke or kid.
Black people will make racial slurs towards anybody, even each other. White people can only throw racial slurs at other white people, otherwise they actually are racist.

I have nothing against black people, but I cannot stand white people who try to act black. Damn posers annoy the hell out of me, and they tend to play the race card more than black people. (I.e. I have a white friend who listens to ©rap music and he called me and my other white friends racist because we don't like rap music, despite the fact that all the reasons we gave for hating it had nothing to do with skin color.)
Rap music is racist to blacks , It degrades them into thugs and pimps.Gives them a bad image thats hard to shake.
I hate Wiggers,(Whites who think their black) I would concider it a racial slur.

Blacks dont see Wiggers as brothers ,Its like trying to be Chinese if your blue eyed blond haired dude you just dont look right.
Among the reasons for me hating rap music are:

1) It requires no talent.
2) There's no melody; they just talk really fast.
3) The lyrics make no sense...
4) ...if you can even make out any of the words they're saying.
5) The sound is not pleasing to the ears.
6) Rap songs often throw in things that don't even go with the song. (I.e. Mario or Pacman music.)
7) 90% of them talk about nothing but sex, drugs, crime, and how cool it is to be a thug.
8) Yelling obscenities every three seconds is not cool.

There are more, but that's all I feel like listing...

...wow, I listed eight whole reasons? I didn't even have to think hard to come up with them either; they just rolled off the tongue... or fingers... ya know... 'cause I was typing... and not talking. Yeah.
Not every Rap song sucks , I like some of eminems music, Like the 8mile and without me.

But the far majority is horse shit ,Eminem tries to be funny and contriversial and get so much halirious neagotive media coverage. The rest is tasteless crap , That haisnt changed in years and is all the same,Sure it requires talent to rhyming words but how many write their own songs today?Rap was about street rebelion and neglect and the injustices of society, Now its just shit that doesnt even have any value even a crude one like getting your voice heard, Since there isnt anything of value to be heard.
Alot of the Lyrics of most rappers is just profanity and disgusting criminal sexual behavours that dont show much talent in making. All Rap videos are incredibly generic and copy cated lacking any originality and creativity.
To me its no different then Pop music, Its artificial and just excessorized.

The difference is that pop music is catchy and uses gimmicks to attract brainless fans. (One such gimmick being Britney Spears' breasts.) Rap, on the other hand, has no fancy gimmicks or catchy rhythms and is instead just complete and utter shit. And yet, teenagers continue to gobble it down like valiums.
It never ceases to amaze me how popular rap music is.
Wiggers are idiots. And I've thought so since junior high. :)

And yes, rap music is awful. And definitely more degrading to the blacks who perform it than anyone else...

1.Rap music, along with any other music, requires talent. In writing, as well as freestyle. 2-who cares? Since when do rappers not talk fast in all of their songs? 3 and 4, open your ears dumbass, there are many well-crafted, thoughtfully written rap songs out there. 5-It's pleasing to enough peoples ears, I guess. There's a reason why rap is the most popular genre right now. 6-Not "often". In fact, rarely do genuine rap songs (i.e. not tampered with by listeners who instert a whole new beat in it, and put them on Kazaa) ever do that. The song "No Love" by DMX has been sampled with the tunes of many popular artists, including Michael Jackson, Gordon Lightfoot, Kansas, Mario Bros. etc. etc. etc. DMX doing none of this himself. 7 is an old stereotype associated with rap music, many of the popular rap artists right now don't rap about "how cool it is to be a thug" (whatever that is), but drugs and crime, yeah sure. But LOTS of artists in any genre write songs about drugs and crime. Queens of the Stone Age's CD is chalk-full of drug references (in Real1 Raphsody, QOTSA is listed under "Stoner Rock"), and even in country music, Dierks Bentley's "What Was I Thinking" (the anthem for my hillbilly town, as well as any in surrounding area) is about one big crime. Let's not forget Kurt Cobain, who wrote nearly all of his songs on an acid trip, and probably lots of other drugs too. Drugs are a part of music culture. After all, sex, drugs and Rock n' Roll... 8-Fuck fuck fuck. Swearing is the shit.
Well, at least you countered my actual reasons rather than just ignoring them and calling me a racist for hating rap music.

Let's just put it this way: I hate rap, you like rap, and we'll just leave each other alone and listen to whatever we want, comprende?
