This is one of the secret Nintendo titles, courtesy of that ign board member I mentioned in another thread who snuck into Nintendo's booth and took a bunch of pictures (apparently Nintendo's security is a joke).

Honestly, I have no idea what to make of this game. I took a picture of the control scheme:

but obviously it did not come out very well. If someone could work on it, maybe we could find out what is says. What little I remember is that the left trigger controls the left flipper and the right controls the right flipper. So it sounds like pinball right? But it appears to be some kind of Fuedal Japan battle game judging by the poster. You're guess is really as good as mine on this one.

Awesome, a new Nintendo franchise! Damn, I can't wait to see what it's about.
Interesting.
Eh... do an image search for Odama and here's what you get:

Erm
In response to whether or not Odama or DK Jungle Beat are the big susprise title Matt is really looking forward to, he responded:

Quote: Nah.

Odama looks... er, interesting, though.

So...Odama is a game where you throw around a gigantic inflatable ball?
Dunno

I think it involves giant red balls and crowds of samurai or something. That is so totally awesome.
Umm... we'll see, at any rate...
A samurai game from Nintendo ? Perhaps Nintendo's own initiative to create a wing of its own mature themed franchises as Mr. Iwata said they would ?

But who knows, it could turn out to be like Naruto which is kind of another one of those E rated type works.
Of course, the name is too similar to a certain someone, so they'll be renaming it for the US as we all know.

I think it's funny that any new Nintendo game is assumed to be a new Nintendo franchise.
From N-Sider:

Quote:It's speculated that the image below is from a new Nintendo game called Odama. The game is said to be described as a samurai pinball game from the first-person perspective. The buttons L and R are said to control the flippers, or swords as shown in the image.
Now that I've read that it does look like there's a pinball in that banner, behind the swords. This also explains why you got pictures of balls when doing a search for Odama OB1. :D

What a weird idea for a game. :wha:

Hey, what Nintendo games haven't turned into franchises? :)
Kid Icarus. :p
Heh, maybe that'll change today! :D
Uh-uh. It had a sequel on GB.

First-person samurai pinball? How bizarre... it sounds ... uh, 'unique'... I'd like to see some pics anyway. :)
I can't wait to see some pics.

It's by Yoot Saito -- maker of the fun game SimTower (and its sequel Yoot's Tower)... interesting... it sure sounds strange. But fun.
Are gcadvanced the only ones with screens? Yeesh.

Looks cool!
Looks great! Pinball-RTS-puzzle game, who'd have thought it... :)
:wha:

Erm... looks... interesting. It's certainly nothing I've seen before, I'll give it that. I can't imagine getting into a game like that, although I'm sure it's just as much of an acquired taste as is Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, which I'm psyched for.
It's certaintly a new concept and I'm all for new concepts. Bring on Odama!!
What a weird looking game.
... so no one else here played SimTower? Well, other than Mapel Girl, but she doesn't post...
SimTower was awesome. I was really addicted to that game back in the day. The sequel was okay, but it didn't really add much. I will withhold judgement on Odama as there is no possible way I could judge a game this strange without playing it.
I haven't played Yoot Tower, but I'd like to someday... SimTower is fun. Somewhat simple, but fun.
I've played SimTower. It is a fun game, but then I even liked SimAnt.
I played SimEarth, and I found that to be a very fun game myself. Of course, in the future they will just make Sim Earth, Sim City, The Sims, Sim Ant, and so on, and they will ALL use each other's data, so you'll have to consider what will happen to the ant colony at lazy's house in Tendo City whenever you adjust the axis tilt of the planet.
Hey it's a Sports RTS!

Pikmin meets dodgeball!

It looks like the Red Team needs to create a ladder over the ravine so they can launch their Odama Ball (??) in to the Blue Team's stronghold. It probably also bowls over the soldiers too. I imagine the Blue Team could use the same ladder. See the shot where all the red soldiers are blocking the center? Poor guys, sacrificing themselves for the good of the battle.

Imagine playing any RTS, like Fire Emblem, but the goal is to destroy/take over the opposing team's stronghold while securing yours. All the while using the Odama Balls as a kind of weapon, like a cannon. But I bet the Odama Ball isn't just a weapon, but also a kind of flag. If you can get a straight path in to the center of the opposing stronghold and sink it (Like Air Hockey), you probably either instantly win the match or decrease the opposing team's overall health, stamina, points, etc.

This could be really cool and really addictive, it all depends on what the hell Odama is. Can someone find and post the rules for Odama (a kind of Japanese sport)?
In the pics of the japs playing Odama, there seems to be atleast two modes of play: Getting the ball through an obstacle course and then trying to keep the ball from touching the ground. Maybe you keep it from touching the ground while transporting it to the next obstacle course. In those pics, I dont see a goal or anything and I dont see a point to the game at all, i mean, how do you win?

But this would mean that maybe in the video game, you create your path through the obstacles in front you and then have your soldiers push it down the path in to the goal of the opposing team. While you do that, you also are playing a traditional RTS where the soldiers are fighting eachother.

I remember my glee when I finally achieved that elusive 5-Star rating for the first time. True turning point in my life.

...

Okay, maybe not, but it was a very fun game.
SimTower came on a CD, but ads for other games were almost all of the space... the game itsself is 8.5MB and runs straight off the HDD. :)

And did you get it from 5 Star to Tower? That's the final step...
I think Yoot's Tower was a rare Mac-only game, although it might have just been exclusive to the Mac for a short time. Anyway, I remember achieving the Tower rating and then I thought, "What do I do now?" so I started a new tower. :)
Yeah, that's about all you can do. SimTower doesn't have the versatility of a SimCity... fun, but more limited.
I got SimTower a long time ago, but I never played it very much. I really ought to though...
