He is the cousin of the late King of Iraq , He isnt first in line for the throne but he is the only one claiming it.He is a wealthy entrepenuer owner of many middle eastern banks. He consulted the american coalition forces before the iraq invasion, He is now a new major political presence in post war iraq, He has gotten a positive reaction especially from older iraqis who remeber the monarchy. He has been aproached with problems by many different groups within iraq, He wants a unified iraq like it was before Saddam and he speaks out agaist many sectarian groups trying to cease power for themselves and dividing the country.

I think returning the monarchy may have a stabalizing effect and bring back patriotism and unity, They could do it like england which is a democracy with a Monarchy attached.
I don't know, a lot of Iraqis might not be to keen about having a single ruler like that even if his powers are reduced.
Weren't we trying to establish democracy there? Though it'd certainly be an improvement over Saddam, I can't imagine Iraqis wanting to trade one dictator for another, even if he is less of a tyrant and has less power.

Twenty years from now, we'll probably be trying to overthrow whoever we put in power. Hopefully, it won't come down to that again. By now, we should have learned from history not to support a madman just to get another madman kicked out of power.
Sharif ali doesnt want to be dictator , He supports the democracy in iraq.He seems like a really kind honnest man who cares for his people.

Democracy does not make a perfect goverment as Milosovic was a democratically elected president yet he was a total mad man doing ethnic cleansings.

I think the U.S cannot push things on iraq, The people may not want a democracy, Its their country and their future if they want a monarchy or just a plain republic its their business. Democracy isnt for everyone, In Tibet before china invaded the Tibetans were sastisfied with a religous leader as the ruler the Dalai Lama.

Monarchies are not all bad, Look at Jordan king Abdulah , He has been a good allie for the U.S and has done alot in the isreali conflict and he is most the respectful of human rights.
I can't imagine the Iraqis wanting an American government, and that kind of attitude may keep them from becoming a democracy anytime soon. And yes, democracy is not a perfect form of government, but it has proven itself to be one of the most effective in history.
Sharif Ali would have a good chance of become president, but I just don't see him becoming king.
I think I should be king of Iraq.
Yeah, you should be.
Everyone was talking about Afghanistans King coming back a couple years ago, but guess what, nothing happened. I think it will be the same here
I dont , Afghanistan king was a elderly man past his prime. Unlike Sharif ali he didnt want to come back,Afghanistan had Karzai.

I think Ali could make a big difference in iraq if he was crowned king, He would have more influence in rebuilding iraq then any politicians in the provisional goverment. He may even run for president.
Only if it's a near-powerless figurehead... remember, some of European countries are "monarchies" still... :)
