I kid, I kid!

But seriously, who's pumped about this game? I certainly am! I've avoided just about all information on it(I don't even know how the battle system works), so I expect to be pleasantly surprised. And I've starved myself of RPGs for the past.. year or so, so this should be good.

It's coming out on the 25th of February, so let's begin the countdown!
*crawls tentatively out of foxhole, expecting Weltall to have exploded (figuratively and literaly) at contents of thread titled "Xenosaga Sucks!"*
As a rule, you never diss the franchise someone has named themselves after around here. Fortunatly, you kid you Kidd.

Anyway, I am jazzed, pumped, and spackled about this game.
You know, Kingdom Hearts Final Mix allows for cinema skipping, an option they added for those who just wanna get to the playing. Perhaps they will add this to this game as well. With so many cutscenes, it's likely most aren't FMV, and thus the eject disk skip method won't work for most of it. Then again, I enjoy short breaks during play to watch some story (hey, that's reccomended anyway by the booklets of all games I've played) so it's not too annoying to me.
Ok so I got the latest EGM in the mail yesterday and they reviewed Xenosaga. It got two 8.0's and a 6.0 (or 6.5). They pretty much just complained about the huge amount of cinemas. The first six hours of the game are comprised of only two hours of gameplay. But aside from that they have nothing but good things to say about.

I'm still gonna get it.

Unfortunatly the cut scenes are an integral part of Xenosaga, so by skipping them you miss out on a huge chunk of the game. But if you want to play the game and don't care about storyline or anything like that it's fine by me.
Sounds like the later parts of MGS2, where you play for 5 minuites then watch another half hour of cutscenes... there IS such a thing as too little interactivity! Why not just call it an interactive movie or something...
Don't give N_A ideas. I'm sure the gamplay portions are pure gameplay, and hardly choose a or b affairs.

Yes, I know it's an integral part, only to be skipped if you aren't interested in story, or don't care about any hints they give, but hey some people wanna skip. So, I wonder if the skipping option will be added.
There's more to the reviews though. They said that while there are insane amounts of cinemas in the game, there is actually a lot more gameplay than in most recent RPGs, and that the battle system is very good and there's lots of customization in the game. One reviewer also mentioned that after the first four hours or so of cinemas it lightens up and the rest of the 45 hours of gameplay are terrific (with plenty of cinemas in between all of that). So as I understand it there are a few bours worth of cinemas at the very beginning of the game, but it gets less frequent as the game moves on and the cinemas actually become a nice break from the tough gameplay. I believe that there are around six hours or so worth of cinemas in the game.

And to tell you the truth, I'd rather have a cinema explain the story to me instead of having a static image of two little sprites talking to each other like in Xenogears.
I think games should not allow you to skip cut scenes the first time through, but make a little note on your save file that you saw that movie so that you can skip it if that damn boss kills you and you have to go back
And who would want to skip those awsome cut scenes in Kingdom Hearts?
I'll probably get it after I get Wind Waker and Four Swords, and hope that my PS2 is repaired by then
I'm still not sure if I should get this or Breath of Fire. I don't know too much about BoF, other than it's crappy cel-shading. Can't anybody besides Sega and Nintendo do cel-shading right? They basically just put black outlines around the characters, ala Klonoa 2.
Why should those be forced even the first time? Look, I ALWAYS watch the cut scenes no matter how many times i have gone through a game, but when I've been dieing repeatedly, I don't wanna hear "I got two words for ya kid... ATTACK!" like 10 times in a row. There's no reason you should force what you think should be seen onto other gamers. It's their choice to skip the story detail I say. Apparently Square thinks so too thanks to Final Mix. I will say this, it should be something you enable or disable as an option. I say this for ONE reason. I've accidently pressed a button during a cut scene before and boom, missed the whole thing. That's highly annoying.

Oh, OB1, we said cinema (meaning FMV I think) but I know at least I meant cut scene, which could mean either FMV, sprites talking to each other, or a Zelda style cut away. I'm saying all those could have a skip option, only not allowing a skip when you have to choose something in a conversation (again, a good reason not to skip is so you know what you are saying).
Cinemas can be completely pre-rendered FMV or use the in-game engine.
I HAD to fix that title... it was too insulting even if in jest :D

Honestly though, other than Silent Hill 3 this will almost certainly end up being the best game of this entire generation, if not ever. And I do not say that lightly: Xenogears right now holds those titles in my eyes and I have every reason to believe Xenosaga will meet or exceed the astronomical standards of Xenogears, for Xenogears was light-years beyond all other RPGs in story and character development. Even Wind Waker doesn't ignite half the flame of passion in me that this game does.

Oh yes, I have a second opinion on the matter:

P.S. Fuck you all! :D

Indeed. :amunk:
But you didn't fix the icon. :P So there's still a thumbs down.
Booyah, Grandma. Booyah. :shake:
