What I want for my xbox is more RPGs , the Xbox with games like KOTOR has proven to be capable of having stellar rpgs and too me I feel Microsoft should try to buy a exclusive Final fantasy game like crystal cronicle for the Nintendo gamecube.

The Xbox has a decent amount of sports and racing games , Some good FPS , But it needs RPGs and definently should buy a developer to make some good RPGs and like I said get a exclusive Final fantasy game.

They should also Get Rare to make a new RPG? perhaps also get them to make Starfox and jet force gemini games.
Rare should make games that don't suck.
I think everyone is wishing for that, Weltall.

My wish: Cheaper games.
Grabed by ghoulies was a rush job obviously. To me they should focus on establishing themselves with their proven Franchises before taking anymore stupid risks.

Hard to do when your best games were made with franchises that were not your own.
Banjo and Conker are theirs...
I did not like either of them.

Honestly, many Rare games I've played I did not like.
Blast Corps was pretty kick ass.
That is one I did not play.
Isnt starfox a Rare franchise?
No.
Maybe they can make Star hamster or somthing! :far-out:
Whatever it will be, it will likely be an animal mascot. God knows there aren't enough already.
Rare made ten N64 games. Eight are great (Yes, I think that both Banjo games, Conker, DK64, PD, GE007, Blast Corps, and JFG are all great games. So should everyone. :)) and two are okay (KI Gold and Mickey's Racing Adventure).

Since then they have made one for Cube (SFA) and one for X-Box, both just above average...

Anyway, of all those games the only ones that aren't their franchises are DK64, Goldeneye, the Mickey racing game, and Star Fox Adventures... so no it's not like they've made lots of liscenced games. Four of those twelve.
Atleast Perfect Dark 2 is a franchise they own , If they release it as a launch title for the xbox 2 that would help it battle sony.

Blastcorp was garbage.

Out of those, I played Banjo 1, Conker, JFG and a little PD. I did not like Banjo, I did not like JFG at all, I thought Conker was unbelievably overrated, and I didn't play enough PD to really say for sure.

Rare still has a franchise problem though. Banjo? Not exactly geared to the X-Box crowd. Nor is JFG. PD is really the only one that is still viable to them.

I still think dropping Rare was a stroke of genius for Nintendo, especially considering they made MS drop a serious ton of cash for them. Rare is very overrated (I've held this opinion in the N64 days and I still believe it), and MS has reaped no rewards from their purchase. I expect that trend to continue. Rare flourished on the N64 because there were no other developers competing with them. They benefited from the machine's lack of software. It is quite obvious though that on XBox, Rare is overmatched by several other devs. They made one lousy game, and no one talks about them anymore. I couldn't be happier. :)
Really the only game they have coming up [besides PD0 which may or may not come out this century and a few GBA games] is Kameo and most reports I've heard say it's average at best, not a very good outlook.

Blastcorps was pure awesomeness, btw. *listens to Simian Acres theme*

I thought the main reason Microsoft picked up Rare was to attract the younger audience, or to give the perception of the Xbox being a "family console". Granted, PD is probably Rare's only franchise that would do best on the Xbox.

It is my personal belief that Rare saved the N64. Rare left a huge footprint on the N64, making the two very synonymous with each other, in my opinion. Also, there were more Rare games that I enjoyed for the N64 than Nintendo games I enjoyed for the 64.

But perhaps it was a good idea for Nintendo to drop Rare in the long run. Meh. I still miss them. :(

Oh, Rare undoubtedly kept the N64 from drowning. But they were, in my opinion, only able to flourish because they had the platform all to themselves. Had Square or Konami or Capcom been large-scale N64 publishers, Rare would have been the second-tier developer that they now are on the XBox. On a platform with faster-paced development, such as XBox, Rare's formulaic, unimaginative games and terribly long development cycles simply do not work. And, strangely enough, it seems like MS doesn't care. I would have thought for sure that MS would invest in Rare, provide them with extra developers or at the very least light matches under their feet to quicken the pace a little, but they have done neither. This leads me to believe MS grabbed Rare for the sole purpose of denying Nintendo.
You may well be right, Weltall.
I think most people were desapointed about Rare being sold because of Perfect Dark zero.
It wasn't the only reason, but it was a big reason.
Wow, Weltall... sad... you disliked JFG, Conker, Banjo, and PD? ... I can't think of much to say except YOU ARE INSANE... and completely wrong. Rare's games are (except for those two merely above average exceptions) brilliant... they were good before that too (see DKC...), but on the N64 they really broke out. Banjo-Kazooie was Mario 64 but done differently. It wasn't as good overall, okay, but it was a great game... shows Rare's great sense of humor for one, as do B-T and JFG... very funny games... and with great platforming action. DK64 and B-T were admittedly more of the same, but it was a great 'same' to be copying. As for JFG, that's a brilliant action-shooter. How could you dislike it? The framerate issue? That one to me is irrelevant and I don't even notice it... what I do notice is the great shooting action...

Oh, and Blast Corps is an incredible game. So much variety (there are more "minigame" levels than normal ones, by far), so long and challenging...seems simple but has a lot of depth... can play just about forever with the Platinums as hard to get as they are... awesome game.

After the N64 Rare lost people and seems to have struggled, but they really did save the N64. Without them it'd have been nowhere near as good... oh sure if others were on it it would have not been as obvious but still, their stuff is brilliant by any standard.

Oh, and they made 11 games... I forgot the great Diddy Kong Racing...
Weltall only likes games with big stories, remember? ;)

Rare's best games were the original franchises, actually. Banjo, Conker, JFG, Blastcorp, PD, etc. Those were all better than their Nintendo franchise games (Star Fox Adventures, DKC, DK64). Even if Konami and Namco had heavily supported the N64, Rare would still be considered one of the N64's best developers. Weltall, you hate all platformers to begin with, so saying that you didn't like Banjo and Conker is like Hitler saying that he isn't too fond of Mel Brooks. Well no shit.
I don't hate all platformers. I absolutely adore Mario 64. I simply hate most platformers (Banjo included) because they're basically the same damn game, and half the time just prolonged fetch quests to boot. I love Zelda too, all of them that I've played, even though the storylines are pretty basic.

Conker is original, and it is funny from time to time, but some parts of it were a chore to play. It was funny, but it wasn't fun.

Also, I believe that if Rare were a PSX-exclusive developer, no one would have ever given a damn about them. And JFG was like a poor Mega Man ripoff. Not fun at all. I'm glad I only wasted ten bucks on it.

Can I help it no one knows how to make a good platformer? Hell, even Mario 64 was a fetch-quest for a good deal of it, but the levels were so well-designed and it was just so damned fun I didn't want to stop. There is something M64 had that no other 3D platformer has ever been able to duplicate. Only Sunshine even came close.
You have weird taste. :p
I've enjoyed just about all of Rare's games.
I'm with Weltall here. Finally, someone else who thinks Rare is so heavily overrated it's not even funny. I liked a few of their games (all, or should I say both, were for the SNES: DKC and DKC2... DKC3 was all right, I guess.) However, their new age games never appealed to me. Banjo-Kazooie had its moments of mediocracy; Banjo-Tooie got old almost as soon as I turned it on; Donkey Kong 64 is underrated in my opinion, but still not that great; Conker's Bad Fur Day is possibly the absolute most overrated games in the history of gaming (I wouldn't say I hate it, but I'm not really a fan of it); Goldeneye was fun for a while, as I saw a bit of depth in it with the mission objectives and all; I've never played Perfect Dark, but I've heard that it's a better version of Goldeneye, so I'd probably like it, though I'll probably discover that it, too, is overrated; Diddy Kong Racing was... ugh, total shyte; Jet Force Gemini... I take back what I said about Conker... THIS is the most overrated game in the history of gaming... honestly, this game bored the hell out of me; and as for Starfox Adventures, I've played very little of it, so I can't make a judgment on it, but it actually looks pretty good to me. (I'd probably still prefer Starfox 64 though.)

Sadly, Rare was almost all N64 had going for it, and only a few first-party titles and some games by HAL outmatched them. If someone asked me to recommend some good games, I don't think I'd mention a single Rare title.

Once again, this is all just my opinion, but I'm glad to know that somebody else (Weltall) shares it. Sometimes, it just makes me sick listening to people talk about how great Rare is, especially when they compare it to (or refer to it as being superior to) companies that I hold in much higher regard. No offense to anyone whose opinions differ from mine; you're as free to like Rare as I am to hate 'em.
Muddled
If Rare doesnt make anything good on the xbox , MS should just wait till perfect dark zero is finnished and released then sell them.
...

I think this is a first, but for once, I agree completely with OB1 and Black Falcon. You people are insane! Both OB1 and Falcon may be illogical and crazy and stubborn, but at least they have taste in games! That's what REALLY makes a person, you know.

Rare had supplied the N64 with some of the best games I've ever played in my life. B~K, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, JFG, Diddy Kong Racing, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Blast Corps, all overrated? Absolutely not. Each of these games deserves every bit of praise I've heard given to them (except DK64, I didn't care too much for that). It doesn't make much of a difference that N64 didn't have many games to choose from to begin with- these games thrive on substance, not hype. I still find myself playing much more N64 than modern games (including GameCube), and I wouldn't continue to spend hours at a time on each of these games if my love for them was inauthentic, willful and based solely on hype.

BTW, I'd say that JFG plays more like a 1st person shooter than a 3rd person shooter, depending on how you play it. The way I play it is that I hold R down to get into that quasi-first person view, where the model of the character becomes transparent, so you can run and aim at the same time. That made killing enemies a lot more fun, and it was easier to shoot off their heads, too. I could see enjoying the game a lot less if you relied mostly on auto-aim to kill enemies. I still wouldn't compare it to Mega Man, though.
Well, a part of my bias has to do with Rare sticking mostly to a single genre that I care little for, but the rest of it is a genuine dislike for what they offer. I've already mentioned JFG, but Conker rubs me wrong in a different way. I watched my sister play it, and that was more entertaining than playing it myself. Some of the comedy value was good, but, in my opinion, the gameplay wasn't nearly as captivating. So, I never finished it, yet I experienced the whole thing by proxy. She enjoyed it, for some reason.

But neither of us liked JFG.
If I was in charge of Rare , I would make them work there asses off to make atleast one good xbox game, Then I would get them to concenstrate on Perfect Dark zero for the xbox 2 so it would be ready for launch.
I guess you could say I don't have taste in games, but I look at it more as being a bit picky. Kinda like Weltall, I mostly prefer games with big stories, but not always. If it has a lot of freedom (like Grand Theft Auto) or if it's just plain addicting (like Zelda, which has somewhat of a big story... maybe not Final Fantasy big, but bigger than Nintendo's other franchises) then I'll grow attached to it as well. I'm not completely closed to platformers though. I don't care for too many 3D platformers, but I do like 2D platformers such as the Sonic and Kirby games. (I hated Kirby 64 though.) I'll admit I do like the 3D Sonic games, one of the rare exceptions to my dislike of 3D platformers. I didn't care too much for CBFD, but it was decent. At least it didn't have that "collecting" nuissance from B-K and DK64. I never got far in it either though. Like Weltall said, the humor is what really made it. It's kinda like the South Park games: funny, not fun.

And yes, I do think most of Rare's games (though I never even mentioned Blast Corp, nor have I played it or heard much about it) are overrated, but I wouldn't be at all shocked or annoyed if someone said one of my favorite games (say, perhaps, FF7 or Chrono Trigger) was overrated. To a lot of people, they probably are, I'm just more partial to RPGs than to platformers, that's all. It depends on how hyped up a game is and if it's really as good as they say it is. FF8, for example, is a great game in my opinion, but since it was a disappointment compared to FF7, several people call it total shit and the worst game ever. Because of that, I consider FF8 to be highly underrated. FFX, however, I consider to be one of the absolute most overrated games of all time. Okay, the bell just rang, so I'll close this post here.
I usually don't factor in hype in my personal take of a game. The fact that JFG and Conker are very overrated has nothing to do with why I don't like them. In retrospect I do believe FF7 and the Resident Evil games are a bit overrated as well, but for awhile they were my favorite games anyway, and still enjoyable to me. It's just that, since then, I discovered series in the same genres that are superior to those games (Xenogears, Silent Hill).

Now, as far as taste in games? Well, if I don't like baseball, which I don't, then I can't appreciate a good baseball team. I can watch them play, and I can have it spelled out for me why one team with a 25-9 record is better than another team with a 25-9 record, but the nuances are lost on me. Yet, in football, I can tell right away why one 8-1 team is actually inferior to a team that is 7-2. I like football and I can tell these subtleties apart. But with baseball, good team or bad, it all tastes like beans to me.

That's why I dismiss most platformers. I know there are differences, but none of them are so drastic that it makes me like them any more than another. I really can't tell them apart because none of them interest me enough to care.
Of course, I don't use how properly a game is rated as grounds for whether or not I like it either. And I don't hate all of Rare's games, I just didn't think they were as good as people say they are. I was into DK64 for a while, but I've seen much better games. B-K did have a thing or two going for it. Conker was entertaining, but the gameplay was pretty much the same as its predecessors'. A game can be overrated (like FF7) and still be one of my all-time favorite games. I just don't like Rare that much. I'll admit, I'd rather play one of their games than most new age games anyday, but there are still plenty of games that I prefer over Rare. DKC and DKC2 are the only Rare games that I consider to be good. (Well, Goldeneye a little, and I haven't played Perfect Dark.)

Regarding JFG, I bought the game almost immediately after it came out, so there weren't very many reviews for it, just Nintendo's typical hype which I learned to tune out. I hardly ever touched it afterwards because it was just plain... well, boring, and also somewhat annoying. The scenery was nice, but the puzzles were next to impossible to solve and the enemies would not f*ck off long enough for me to get to the other side of the screen, or to even fight back. So... yeah, I gladly traded that game for Starfox 64, which I had traded to my friend for his Super Game Boy. (A mistake if ever there was one, but at least I got it back for a small price. He enjoyed JFG and I'm happy for him 'cause I didn't like it.)
Me saying Final Fantasy is overrated, you saying Rare is overrated.

MS should buy rights to a exclusive Final fantasy VII sequeil, That would boast the xbox especially in Japan.
Square would never go for that. The X-Box has an installed user base of around... 15 in Japan. MS would have to pay Square lots and lots of money to get something like FFVII-2 (or the rumored Cloud DMC-style game) exclusive to the 'box.
They'd probably have to pay more than Xbox will ever make in profit, which actually wouldn't necessarily be that much since Microsoft themselves said that the Xbox will NEVER turn a profit!! Hahahaha...haha...ha...
Hahaha!

Damn that sig is huge, Geno.
I'll make it smaller when I get the chance. I always end up making my sigs too big.
Yes... I've noticed.
I noticed you noticing.
I didn't notice that.
