Quote:Since the GameCube's European price drop occurred three weeks ago, European retailers have reported astounding GameCube sales numbers. Ten times the numbers of GameCubes were sold during the first week of the price drop, and sales have only increased since then. Since the price drop Nintendo's overall market share on the continent has increased from 5% to 25% putting them ahead of Microsoft's Xbox.

"Nintendo GameCube is now selling at the fastest rate since its launch proving that at the right price and with the great software line up available this Christmas, it really is the console of choice for all gamers," said Nintendo of Europe Marketing Director David Gosen.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, F-Zero GX, Mario Party 5, and 1080: Avalanche are just some of the games being released for the GameCube in Europe that may be helping those numbers. In addition a special Mario Kart: Double Dash!! package will be released on November 14th which will contain a new GameCube along with Mario Kart and the special Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition. The collector's edition will contain five Zelda games, and is a much anticipated collection from Nintendo. It's definitely good to see that sales are brisk for Nintendo in Europe as well as the United States and Japan.

Go, Nintendo!!

Holy shit, that's incredible! Let's hope this lasts!
FIVE Zelda games?! Wait, I suppose they are counting Master Quest as it's own game, yeah that's logical (for them)... but sad...
It's more like four games and a demo, but whatever...
Gamecube, Mario Kart, four classic Zelda games, and a demo of a fifth... that's an amazing bundle!

Oh, I saw this news earlier today (at, amazingly enough, a European gaming site... :D). Great news. Really great... Nintendo has always done so well there (and in a large part deserved it)... is this a turnaround? We can hope! :)
I just hope Nintendo can keep up the momentum past this holiday season. Are there any big games coming out in Europe in q1 '04?
Hmm... good question, I have no idea... FF:CC maybe?
Nintendo's Brilliant Plan For Console Domination Revealed!

(it consists of continuing to do exactly what they have been doing for a while now, BTW, with no substantive changes.) Yup, the best way to fix a problem (Nintendo losing money for the first time ever) is doing what didn't work some more!

Seriously, while many things they are doing are good... they need to learn from history and what the competition does, in so many categories! Competent advertising is a good start, but how long will that last (on the air I mean... I hope that the adsthemselves stay good . :) )
Quote:One of the publisher's more intriguing goals is to create wholly original software that cannot be labeled a sequel or an extension of any existing genres or concepts.

That's something anyway.

But, really, their whole "back to the basics" thing, I just don't think it's working that well. But, as long as they continue to make fun games and their second parties continue to make games for older gamers I don't have a problem with it.
Nintendo is too conservative to realize that change is okay when what they are doing clearly has flaws...
Nintendo needs to get into the online market fast as it is a new venture they have ignored. It working well for the xbox and the Ps2.
I doubt they will with the Gamecube, but it's possible that they might with the N5. It would certaintly help them out in terms of sales.
And just as importantly, as I've said before, harder core and older gamer goodwill and credibility...

When Nintendo finally does go online I'm sure it'll be some mass-market thing, not just a elite one like MS and the broadband-only Live. That is probably good. However, if they don't have one before once they finally do get one people won't pay much attention since everyone who cares will have gone to the other platforms... Nintendo just doesn't get that. At all.

Well, they'll see what happens when they expect people to come when they finally make one and only the most devoted Nintendo fans care anymore... (since kids, their main market, generally don't play online games nearly as often...).
Wow...lower the price low enough and you can sell anything. That's an exponential increase. Kudos to Nintendo for finally making a smart move.

*sigh*

Just when I thought they were ready to change for the better, they announce that they're going back to the way that didn't work! Yay for extreme stupidity!

I really think they want to die. I honestly do.
They're doing something right at the very least.

Yeah, it gets really hard to defend them when the vehemently defend policy that has clearly failed in this form...
I know it's not really relevant to what we're talking about, but...
