Quote:Here are some new images and preview video of Nintendo's Pokemon Colosseum for GameCube, the game is scheduled to release in Japan on November 21, for 5800 yen. A free Memory Card 59 will be bundled with the game.

A 30 hours long RPG mode will be included in the game, you can battle against the main characters from Pokemon Red/Blue, Gold/Silver, and Ruby/Sapphire.

RPG MODE?! WHAT?! How come no one has said anything about this?!

The Magic Box
It's probably something small.
Quote:30 hours
No I mean small in terms of quality. I doubt it's going to be a full 3D RPG.
Magic Box had some pics that looked liked they were from the RPG mode and they were in 3D.
Really?

Why on earth would Nintendo keep this secret?
I have no idea.

I'll upload the images to my website and post them here.

Wow, it looks like they took Pokemon and have put a slight serious twist. Is that multiple characters in that party? Hmm, seems very interesting...
What the---??!

But that doesn't look even remotely Poke-like.
Because they must keep everything possible secret for as long as they can!

And yeah, you're right... that doesn't look anything like Pokemon...
More pics!

And proof that this is from a Pokemon game:

A pokeball!
Well, that prooves it :D, but yes, it seems to be totally different now. Multiple party members? Reminds me of an idea I had a long time ago about a new kind of pokemon game. In my idea, it had multiple party members who each had special abilities that affected the pokemon. Also, the pokemon could fuse with the trainers (this was BEFORE digimon did the same thing, but AFTER I saw them fusing with each other).

I bet they delved into the collective unconcious and stole that idea from me too! Dangit, first Four Swords and now this!
Well, that certainly is a change of pace for the Pokemon series... looks better. Don't know if it'll be remotely worth getting, but at least its different...
Well, I can't tell for sure if you can use two characters in battle, but I know you can use two Pokemon.
It doesn't look like Pokémon at all, but I'm very interested now. This is exactly what they needed to do, and moving away from the kiddy image can't hurt. The only people outside of Japan who really care about Pokémon anyway are the hardcore Nintendo fans. The Pokémon fad has long since moved on, so they don't need to kiddify it to try to keep that audience. Very good news.
Yeah, it definitely was getting old, even for Pokemon fans... the fad has faded. Its nice to see them finally shake it up a bit...

Now all Pokemon needs is a "story"...
Well, the only reason my idea for a new game kinda had a more serious tone is because my ideas for how the gameplay worked sorta wrote the story itself. Miyamoto-style actually. It just seems to me that the only reason they'd have multiple trainers in one group would be if the colloseum wasn't the main goal and some sort of greater flow was happening.

Shine, shine morning light, to the end of something something...
From what I've learned about Colosseum there are normal RPG parts to it, but they probably won't add up to 30 hours. They are pretty much just ways to travel between battle venues. I really don't know where Magic Box got the 30 hours quote because the screenshots are from the latest update of the Pokemon Colosseum website and there was no mention of 30 hours of RPG mode on the site. And if there was a major RPG mode in this game don't you think Nintendo would have said something by now?
You forget that Nintendo is obvlivious to how to advertise.
Yes, but they can't be dumb enough to not realize how much people would love a 3D Pokemon RPG. At least I hope they aren't that dumb.
I highly doubt that this game will be any good, and even if it is thirty hours is a horribly short RPG.
If DMiller is right its not really an RPG... but still, if it was 30 is okay. Its not super long, but there certainly have been lots of games shorter than that that no one would call "really short"... even some RPGs I bet. :)
30 hours isn't short for an RPG, you could easily beat FF7 on your first try in about that amount of time.

Quote:From what I've learned about Colosseum there are normal RPG parts to it, but they probably won't add up to 30 hours. They are pretty much just ways to travel between battle venues.

Well, it still looks interesting. We'll just have to wait and see what comes of it.
I'm with Derek on this. Nintendo can be dumb at times, but not this dumb. I find it very hard to believe that Colosseum has a mode that's larger than the Stadium-type game itself. It would be like Square releasing FFX as "Blitzball" and then having a little note on the box stating "Full Final Fantasy game included!". It just doesn't add up.

So for now, I'm just going to remain skeptical and not think too much of this. I'd rather be surprised than dissapointed.
Pfft, you coward.
Coward? Huh? I'd say that being realistic is a good idea, usually...
I think DJ was joking.

And before you say it-- yes, I know that you are aware of the fact that DJ was only joking.
Cube-Europe put up a video that had clips from the RPG parts. It looks pretty cool.

Cube-Europe
*spits drink all over screen, defying all logic as DJ wasn't even drinking anything, um, DJ hopes it wasn't blood*

OB1 got a joke of mine, and even corrected someone else who may not have been aware of this? Call the police, I think this isn't OB1 but rather an evil witch!
:stupid:
Oh, back to the normal behavior eh? Ya know, you never use that smily in the correct context to make it funny.
The smiley is smiling... it's not supposed to be serious.
I think its somewhat serious...

Yeah...
How could it possibly be serious?? It's a little smiling head with arms coming out of its "ears"!
Because its saying that the person above is stupid of course!
But in an innocent, joking manner. That's why the smiley is here.
Break it up you two. I wasn't taking it seriously, just pointing out you never use it in the correct context to make it funny.
Says you. It was the most appropriate smiley that I could have used at that time.
I think it's a serious smily. Sure he might be smiling, but it's really a smile...of arrogance. Can't you see it?! The way he always smiles at people!! He's like a small, round psycho...who insults people!!
Its insulting! Sure, it is somewhat a humor smilie, but it definitely is serious as well... like, 'that post was just so dumb'. What a nice message.
What? The smily isn't serious. I don't know why you would think that.

Quote:but it definitely is serious as well... like, 'that post was just so dumb'.

The smily is more like: "That post was soo stupid! You dork! I blow my nose at you!" now if I were to say something like: "That post was stupid! I hope you burn in hell you freak!" now that would be serious.
Since when have you guys considered the "I'm with stupid" smiley to be insulting?? You're a bunch of weirdos.
Don't you mean they're a bunch of BIZARRO weirdos?!
Pizarro!
Something I just remembered today is that Pokemon Colosseum is in development at Genius Sonority. For those of you who don't remember that is the company Nintendo funded in 2001 that is made up of ex-Dragon Quest programmers from Enix. That gives me a little more hope that this RPG mode is more than just a gimmick.
I don't know about everyone else, but...I want this game!!
An interview with Genius Sonority can be seen at http://forums.n-philes.com/showthread.ph...adid=21895. I'm not sure what the original source of that interview is otherwise I'd post it. For the lazy ones:

Quote:There are sure many Pokemon games. But Pokemon Collosseum is the first to be a Full 3D RPG. The the story of the RPG mode begins at "Oren"Province.. A whole new place unlike "Kanto" or "Houen".. Its full of new Ideas. You will be surprised as you play the game. The Stadium mode is like the old Pokemon Stadium games. But its also playable alone.. You can get special Pokecoupons to buy upgrades for your Pokemon Now lets start to look at the game

1. Scenariomode

"Oren"Province is a deserted area.. As you play the game youll discover the truth bout this place . Youll have different Pokemon fights with Trainers from the Area and get your Pokemon stronger...

The different thing from the GB pokemon is that there are no wild pokemon cuz the Province is totally deserted..

Instead there is another way to get them.. Thats the Snatch ability It means you can Snatch other peoples Pokemon. The important thing is there are only some Pokemon available to Snatch. The Dark Pokemon, which are directed by a evil force. You snatch the Pokemon to free them. The only way to know which Pokemon are Dark and which are not is to use your female Partner.

After you snatch the Dark Pokemon you have to look after them and win their trust.

This is a very important part of the Story. Are the Dark Pokemon really turned into good ones.. that is unknown and will be revealed as the story develops. The animation and Modelling of the Pokemon are as great as there can be.

2. Stadium Mode

This mode is Focused on the Traditional Stadium fights.. The 3D graphics will be top notch.. And there are different rules for great battles. The main Focus on this game are the special effects on the Pokemon fights. Youll just enjoy watching the game.

In the Stadum Mode you can either use your Pokemon from the GBA game Pokemon Ruby Saphire or from the Scenario mode. And of course the Pokemon of the GBA remake from the first Pokemon game which will be released soon. You can battle with every pokemon ever created!

Pokemon Collosseum is like two games in one. Both title are great enough to be released separately

-Interview with the Staff-

Genious Sonority started last year. But the staff is more then Famous. Developers from Nintendos Earthbound Series and Developers from Dragon Quest 7 joined to make this company.

1. To creat something new.

¡öSo Genius Sonority was built last year.

Yamana: ¡¡Yes we wanted to make a whole new Pokemon game. We first named it Sonority. But it was not enough so we added Genius

Orio: Its a very uncommon thing. The Best developers in Japan just gathered together to make a new title.

--How did Pokemon Collosseum start

Yamana: We wanted to make a "whole" new Pokemon game. And Miura came up with this Idea

Miura: ¡¡I wanted a Story that is a little bit advanced then the other titles. The Main Character is therefore no Kid, he is 17 and pretty dark. The game itself has new things like the snatch system, which is basically stealing things. So its very different.

Yamana: ¡¡Thats the concept and hiromoto will tell you about the story.

Hiromoto: ¡¡When this project first started I actually had a Idea or vision what Im gonna do. Therefore I joined. Im very pleased that the thing I imagined is nearly finished.

Miura: ¡¡I always was looking at hiromoto carefully. Its a very sharp calculated world and in the same time it has the characters with Impact. The concept I started and was finished is "A deserted world with deserted characters" Its different then the other pokemon were everything just grew...

Yamana: Therefore we needed a great Scenario. I asked my old Comrade Orio to do the job. He is a type of developer who makes a scenario to fit in the game system¡_.

Orio: ¡¡The Pokemon World is pretty much finished in its previous games. So I had to think about something to make it new. But as I saw the Illusts and the Characters I thought "aha, I only need to keep the basic rules of the Pokemon world... and I can do everything I want with the rest". This game is something that was never shown before on a pokemon game so Im very happy to show it to the audience.

yamana: The next thing is bout the Music.

Tawada: The scenario and the concept includes a common thing. Its like when I was a Kid and wanted to be a grown up. Therefore the music is very dry like a adult city. The model of the game is Phoenix, Arizona.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--Wasnt it hard to make the music..??

Tawada: Im a type of guy who has fun with music. And this time the Teamwork was so great that it made me feel even better...Sometimes there was great pressure but I had fun(laughs).

2. Almost like a movie?

Yamana: ¡¡Ok the things that we talked about are just the first steps of the game. The real stuff is how it is expressed

Wada: ¡¡First we made the Illusts into a Full 3D form. We were surprised how the Pokemon world turned itself out. The World hiromoto created into 3D and then turning into Pokemon¡_that was the hard part. But after making the fields and placing the pokemons on it I realized that this is great. A dry deserted rotten area with cute Pokemons on it. It seems like a missmatch but was actually great.

Kawamoto: There is no Pokemon Specialist in our company. But we learned a lot about the game. First there are a hell lot of Pokemon and many equipments too. We had to make a scenario and a battling system that was though.

yamana: ¡¡The pokemon basically have 4 abillities. And there are more pokemon then just the GBA Pokemon Ruby Sappire.. there are even some original Pokemon. And even Pokemons from the Remake. So all the pokemon have their abillities and there are many pokemons and they fight each other¡¤¡¤¡¤, That was so much that I said to nintendo "How can we check all those Pokemon there are too many" Nintendo just said "Do it"(laughs).

--Whats the main focus point?

Yamana: ¡¡The Battling of course. I made it as Stylish as possible. We used cameras and graphics to make it top notch. And it was the part we were worried the most, too. You need many special effects and great performance. Its almost like a movie

Orio: ¡¡I think many adult Pokemon players were forced to play alone. But we focused to make it more mature. The Main Character is almost an adult and the story is much deeper then other Pokemon games. So I think it is Ok for adult people to play it. The scenario mode itself contains many individual characters.. Escpecially the enemies. Well but is still contains idea of the series.

3. About the Snatching system.

--The two modes are completly different

Yamana: Yes. All of them are perfectly made. None of them are a bonus. and it took much work to complete the games.

Miura Its friendly to people who start pokemon with this games, too. If you play the Scenario mode youll want to play the Stadium mode. If you play the Stadium mode you ll want to play the Scenario mode.. its made like that

Yamana: I one played the Stadium mode till 4 in the morning.. I was really tired but couldnt help it.

--So you' ll need competetors to play with you?

yamana: well its great to play it alone.

¡ö In the Scenario mode the Snatch system seems to be important .

Orio: ¡¡In the Pokemon world Snatching is a crime. a bad thing(think about the GB pokemon games you cant catch the pokemon of other trainers.. they`ll be mad at you) Of course you got a reason but its still bad. So we focused on that

Miura: ¡¡The main character is not only adulted he is also some kind of Dark hero, It wont be easy to get near him, But of course youll learn hes not a bad guy during the game. The gameboy Pokemon games are RPGs so we had to make completly new things in this game.

¡ö "Snatch" and "Relive" thats completely new in this game right..??.

Orio: ¡¡Snatch and Relive is a crime a bad thing as we mentioned. Its like destroying the Pokemon world. but we learned to love that feature

Miura: ¡¡I really want to thank Nintendo Gamefreak Creatures and the Pokemon Company for letting us make such a great game.

Yamana: ¡¡This software has so many people involved that we actually added two minutes extra music for the step roll then planned.

Tawada: ¡¡Its a long ending theme now.(laughs)

¡ö Youre message to the players

Yamana: Its great! play it! have fun!

¡ö Thank you for the Interview

It sounds like this RPG mode is going to be a big part of the game. Why has Nintendo been so quiet about this?
Not sure, but then again they seem to be pretty much assuring it WILL be a full RPG with the colloseum as a stand-by mode. The whole idea of the game being in a fairly deserted area involving finding other humans living around who dragged pokémon with them is interesting to say the least.

Also, the more serious nature the story seems to take (pretty much required due to the changes in gameplay, which is how Miyamoto likes it as you recall) are interesting. I always thought Pokémon was somewhere between serious and cute. Having just recently re-seen that first Pokémon movie reconfirmed it (especially if you know the changes in the translation, like Mewtwo considering Mew "god", and the COMPLETELY different conversation at the very end during the fight with Mew and Mewtwo (I thought it seemed very odd that a movie that starts out about the meaning of life would suddenly shift to "fighting is wrong").

It's been a while, but I'm interested in Pokémon again, I mean REALLY interested. I love that they are FINALLY doing something new.
Why...why isn't...THIS IS INSANELY HUGE AND AWESOME I WANT THIS GAME NOW THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!
