Better than all of the shows combined.
Close... but the original Transformers show is pretty good too.
The movie has stood the test of time, though. I don't need nostalgia to enjoy it today.
I don't either. See, I didn't sse Transformers much in the '80s... if I did I can barely remember it. Probably an episode sometime or something that I don't rememeber wel,. I first saw the movie a year and a half ago, and have never really seen much of the TV show... I've downloaded a few eps and they were quite good. I'd say that they stand up to time better than TMNT for sure... that one I like too (when I watched a few eps I downloaded), but it is definitely quite corny and nostalgia plays a big part in still liking it. :)
Some huge anime fan here, or somewhere, explained to me and linked to some site about the original Japanese series ours is apparently based on. So, FOAF.

OB1: In that picture of two mechs in costumes, you have Epyon standing by Weltall.
I don't know what you read, DJ, but at Internet Movie Database the earliest listing for Transformers is the on from '84 which is the Transformers series that was shown here and there is no mention of a previous series.

Transformers

Oh hey you're right.
There IS a bigger fan than me! Woah
I resent that poll not having the BEST 80's cartoons, like Ducktales, the Gummi Bears, and Garfield. Now THOSE were the best shows EVER!
Ducktales is good. Garfield? I've seen it several times. Its ... not so good. Certainly not as good as the great cartoon. :)
You're crazy! Garfield was a great show and very funny.

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY KIDS!!!
Garfield was alright, but the "& Friends" parts were pretty dumb. Those animals on that farm...
Those parts weren't as a good as the Garfield cartoon, but they were still funny.
Yea, USA Acres was passable...but I'll never understand where the hell the idea came from for that. Why not just have a full half hour of Garfield...?

And what of the fucking awesome Gummi Bears, 'eh?!
Yeah, putting it in the cartoon was a pretty bad, and strange, idea.
Garfield IS awesome! Comics are hilarious, and so was the show (though I prefer the comics). Yes, that Acres thing was kinda... lame, but it did have Wade Duck, which almost made up for it.
You guys really like Garfield? Confused
The Garfield parts are good! The Christmas Special is quite good... I have it on tape (recorded from the TV...). :)

And the comic is funny.
Quote:Garfield? I've seen it several times. Its ... not so good.

Confused
I love Garfield the comic strip, and the Garfield parts of the cartoon were good, or at least okay... I just thought that the other parts with that farm are dumb.

OOO! I used to love to watch the Super Mario show like right before I would go to school...

What about Mighty Max? or was that the 90's? I used to love that show too.
Time for the Super Mario Super Show!

Duh duh duh duh duh duh do!

Swing your arms, from side to side! Come on let's go and dance DO THE MARIO! Take one step, and then again. Come on let's go and dance, all together now! Do do do do do, do do do, do do do, do do do do do, do do do All together now! Do do do do do do do do, do do do, JUST LIIIKE THAT!
I used to watch that all the time! *does the Mario*
How can you pick just one? I loved He-Man, Transformers, and Carebears back then. What about the Pound Puppies, or Ghostbusters? Yeah, they aren't classics, but I loved them. TMNT and Captain N are late 80's, so it's a totally different time for me. He-Man was on one of my first birthday cakes and my Optimus Prime action figure was one of my favorite toys, but that was when I was really young. Oh, and Teddy Ruxpin!!! YEAH!

And what about the Disney classics like Ducktales, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears and Talespin? I would mention Darkwing too, but that was from the 90's I think.

So yeah, there were way too many good cartoons back then. I can't choose. I don't really remember much of Transformers or He-Man, so I can't compare those to TMNT or Ducktales. So, ALL OF THEM!
Oh, one more thing. So we don't waste an entire thread on it, the best 90's cartoon ever was Animaniacs. And don't come talking about your Simpsons stuff either, nothing comes close to Yakko, Wacko, and Princess Angelina Contessa Louisa Francessca Bannannabannabobesca III. And Pinky and the Brain. And Rita and Runt. And the Goodfeathers. And Slappy. No contest.

Oops, I misspelled Yakko's name. This must be fixed.
Spew!
Hmm, I loved Taz-Mania myself. While I certainly loved Animaniacs more than Tiny Toons, for me Taz-Mania just inched out the Animaniacs. I guess it's because it managed to recapture the charm of old Looney Toons.

Who can't laugh at Axel getting "lessons" because he said or did something stupid?
Ah, Animaniacs and Taz-Mania, staples of my childhood to be sure.
You know kids, sometimes when blah blah blah you have to yackety shmackety and then blah blah smachety yackety shmackety. Do you see what I'm saying? Now let's all have a nice tall cool glass of OJ.
They should bring it on DVD.
No way, they should put it on PVB! Platypus-Versatile-Beak! Taz, could you insert this into the player over there in the corner?

Taz: *sees gigantic evil looking machine churning out smoke with many metal teeth for no good reason near tray* blaaaaaaaa!
Welcome to the land that's way under, down under,
the sky's always yellow in the rain or shine...

Down in Taz-Mania,
Come to Taz-Mania.

Where topsy meets turvy and they start to spin,
Like a Tazmanian devil and his closest kin.

Down in Taz-Mania,
Come to Taz-Mania.

Mom's a live wire, dad's a bump on a log,
Molly's all fired up while Jake plays with the dog.

Down in Taz-Mania,
Come to Taz-Mania.

Digeri Dingo and Wendel T. Wolf,
Francis X. Bushlad is never uncouth.
Bushwacker Bob and his mother called Mum,
Constance and Thickley just want to have fun.
Bull Gator and Axl are always left sore,
If you have a deal just call Buddy Boar,
The Platypus brothers are a-backin' about,
The kiwi, the bushrats, have we left anyone out?
Oh yea, don't forget Taz...

He put the Taz in Taz-Mania,
Down in tazmania,
Come to Tazmania,
We mean you!

*taz breaks out*

Wah-go, Zaz-a-fraz, Pffffffffffft!
Quote:No way, they should put it on PVD! Platypus-Versatile-Beak!

Wouldn't that be PVB?
Darn types, typoee, teop, tyops..... typos!
It's time for Animaniacs
And we're zainey to the max
So just sit back and relax
You'll laugh till you collaps
We're Animaniacs

Come join the Warner Brothers
And the Warner Sister, Dot
Just for fun, we run around
The Warner Movie Lot
They lock us in the tower
Whenever we get caught
But we break loose
And then vamoose
And now you know the plot

We're Animaniacs
Dot is cute and Yakko yaks
Wakko packs with the snacks
While Bill Clinton plays the sax
We're Animaniacs

Meet Pinky and the Brain
Who want to rule the universe
When Goodfeathers flock together
Slappy whacks them with her purse
Buttons chases Mindy
While Rita sings a verse
The writers flipped
We have no script
Why bother to rehearse?

We're Animainacs
We have pay-or-play contracts
We're zainey to the max
There's bologna in are slacks
We're Animany
Totaly insaney
Here's the show's namey
Animaniacs
Those are the facts
WEeee're... tiny we're toony... we're... eh who am I kidding I've completely forgotten that song....
We're tiny, we're toony, we're all a little looney! Uh..something something Acme Acres...that's all I can remember.
Elmira was the coolest on that show, or maybe Baby Plucky, like a tie. The rest are just shallow charicatures of the Looney Toons, who were shallow charicatures in and of themselves, including normal Plucky. Those two were the only things close to original really. They both had cameos on Animaniacs though. Eh, Tiny Toons WAS funny, just didn't compare to the ones that came after it. Oh yeah, Freakazoid. *turns into the Freakazoid, then runs around with arms out making flying noises*
I used to watch Tiny Toons every day after school.

Any of you watch the new Duck Dodgers? It's great.
There! I ate it!

Pirate: Now now, we gots a whole anchor to finish!
Taz-Mania doesn't even begin to compare to the genius of Animaniacs, I'm afraid. But then again, I never liked Taz anyway.
That's because you are a communist dog! :D

Really though, I guess it's just different tastes. Both were good, Taz-Mania just won out for me. Taz back in the old Looney Toons wasn't exactly the funniest in the bunch, but he had his moments, and I guess Warner wanted to really make him memorable and made a series where his antics truly were gut busting. Worked for me anyway.

I also like Marvin Martian. Where's my T-N37 space modulator?
I can't believe nobody hasn't mentioned Ren & Stimpy and Rocko's Modern life for cartoons of the '90s. Come to think of it, well over 80% of all TV I watched during the early '90s was Nickelodeon. I really wasn't into Disney cartoons at the time, with the exception of Ducktales and Goof Troop. (I know there are probably a few others I watched regularly). But damn did Goof Troop have the coolest openening theme music! :D Sure, I can't remember any of the lyrics, except for the deep "yeah". Man, that music takes me back...
We actually haven't mentioned it at all, though to be honest I'm actually surprised about that in and of itself. Why would you be surprised that noone wouldn't mention it anyway? Everyone knows about it.

Why has no one mentioned it though? I think it's because this was only 1980's cartoons to start with. LL switched it to 1990's, but he never saw Ren and Stimpy so he had to go with what he did see, and that happened to be Fox Kids stuff. Well, suffice it to say the conversation completely shifted to Fox Kids cartoons for some odd reason. I will say that having the privilage of cable was sort of an on/off thing in my childhood. We'd go for a year or so with it, then it'd get shut off due to lack of cash for about a year, then it'd be turned back on again for another year or two. So, I'd find myself totally lacking da Happy Happy. I was happy with Taz though :D.

Remember when he got his arse handed to him by a little kitten?
Never seen either of those cartoons either... and I've only seen a couple episodes of Animaniacs. I love the old Looney Tunes cartoons, though...
I would do a heck of a lot to get the complete series of Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain on DVD. Same for Ducktales and the rest. Tiny Toons was great too, but I never got into Tazmania. I don't know why. Animaniacs was the greatest for me because it was soooooo incredibly sarcastic and random, and it was the first cartoon I ever watched that had that. I completely related to it, and I liked their last name. :)

We're Tiny, We're Toony, We're all a little looney
And in this cartoony, we're invading your T.V.
We're comic dispensers, we crack up all the censors
On Tiny Toons Adventures get a dose of comedy

So Here's Acme Acres it's a whole wide world apart
Out home sweet home, it stands alone, a cartoon
Work of art

The scripts were rejected. Expect the unexpected
On Tiny Toon Adventures it's about to start

They're furry, they're funny, they're Babs and
Buster Bunny
Montana Max has Money. Elmyra is a pain
Here's Hamton, and Plucky. Dizzy Devil's Yucky.
Furrball's unlucky, and Gogo is insane

At Acme Looniversity we earn our toon degree.
The teaching staff's been getting laughs since 1933
We're Tiny, We're Toony, We're all a little looney.
It's Tiny Toon Adventures come and join the fun

And now our song is done.
Ren & Stimpy was the first with that level of randomness for me, and it just had so much more than Animaniacs that that show seemed fairly tame by comparison. As for sarcasm, which I love :D, Taz-Mania had a very high level of it, about the same as Animaniacs actually (though in a different comedy style). Found the whole package VERY well done :D. Just so addictive a little show, and I would love to get that as a gift. Animaniacs, I also loved that one, but Taz is... Taz. Taz's dad is also just too cool.
